Letter from President of Hope for Tomorrow

I have been with the Hope for Tomorrow team since the very beginning. In 2005, I was a volunteer helping to coordinate activites for the Hope for Tomorrow team in Da Nang, Vietnam. As the President of Hope for Tomorrow from 2015 - 2017, I have seen the organization grow and entered uncharted waters.

Some of my most memorable experiences is helping the organization establish partnership with local community organization like Asian American Center of Frederick, Maryland and ushering in the team’s first public and private partnership with Howard County, Maryland, Office of Community Partnership.

As an organization, Hope for Tomorrow is still growing. The organization needs all forms of support. Most importantly, Hope for Tomorrow needs energetic volunteers and teams members to take on leadership roles. I urge you to join the HOPE team and make a difference.

Letter from President-Elect of Hope for TomorrowRaising a family and growing my dental practice was more then enough for me. Somehow, the strength of community and energy exhibited by the Hope for Tomorrow volunteers have compelled me to work more with the organization.

I served as part of the dental team lead for several years. One of my wish was to find the means and methods to deliver more care to those in need. After each dental mission, I told myself there is so much more to be done. One cavity at a time. One extraction at a time. This is what I tell myself after each mission. Was this enough?

As the President-Elect for the term of 2018 - 2020, I have started to formulate a policy of change and a goal of millenium infusion into the Hope for Tomorrow team. Pulling one bad tooth or filling one bad tooth was not enough. There must be a better play with greater impact. Delivering impact. Making Changes Now.

Dr. Thi NguyenPresident-Elect (2018-2020)Hope for Tomorrow

In 2005, Hope for Tomorrow hosted its first international dental and medical mission to Da Nang, Vietnam. The 2005 mission provided the foundation bedrock upon which Hope for Tomorrow was built. Today, one of Hope for Tomorrow’s primary programs is the international dental and medical missions to help the disadvantaged communities.

Currently, the Hope for Tomorrow team concentrates its international mission works in Vietnam and Cambodia. The mission provides free dental and medical care to those who do not have access and cannot afford the care.

In order to provide care to the less fortunate, the Hope for Tomorrow team has collaborated extensively with other non-profit organizations such as the Order of St. Camillus in Saigon, Vietnam, L’Association Vietnam Entraide et Solidarité in Paris, France and many others.

Domestic Dental & Medical MissionsIn 2014, the Hope for Tomorrow team decided to host free dental clinic days in the Washignton D.C. metropolitan area. With the experience gained from conducting numerous international dental and medical missions, the team was ready to use their knowledge and skills to serve people in the USA.

Each year, the Hope for Tomorrow team host about four free dental clinics to help the disadvantage communities in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. The majority of the free dental clinics is hosted in Maryland or Virginia.

Most recently, the Hope for Tomorrow team started engaging with local and State government to create a public/private partnership to deliver dental care to the marginalized community.

On October 7, 2017, the Hope for Tomorrow team worked closely with the Howard County, Maryland government to host a free dental clinic day in Laurel, Maryland. The dental clinic served over 250 patients and rendered dental services estimated at $83,000.

In 2008, the Mai Tam Orphanage for children living with HIV/AIDS opened its doors. The Mai Tam House of Hope, also known as Mai Tam Center, is a home and center for HIV/AIDS positive widows, mothers, and children. The center provides shelter, medicine, medical care, education, and a safe haven for its residence.

Today, the Mai Tam Center, the first and still the only facility of its kind in Saigon, Vietnam, supports more than 500+ women and children in need. In addition to providing emotional and physical support, the center provides vocational training to help its residents become more independent and improve their self esteem.

As the children grows, the challenge of entering school, growing up and ask for more space is becoming a good reality.

Due to increasing demand to support orphans who are HIV/AIDS+, the Hope for Tomorrow team continues to collaborate with the Order of St. Camillus in Saigon to open Mai Tam Orphanage II. In 2016, the HOPE team completed building the Mai Tam Orphanage II.

The ”Compassion House Project” was started by Mr. John Donovan. Mr. Donovan is a Vietnam Navy Veteran who served in the Mekong Delta during the war. Mr. Donovan returned to the Mekong Delta and helped build 70 new homes for poor farmers earning less than $5.00 a day.

Compassion House Project provides housing and educational assistance in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. Compassion House Project continues with a special focus on upward social mobility. This is accomplished by supporting families where the parents are committed to keeping their children in school with the intention and hope that the children will go

onward to obtain a college education.

Compassion House Project will support 10 families each year with new homes, micro financing and health care that will ultimately enable them to break the poverty cycle. Compassion House Project is an all-volunteer organization and every penny goes directly to the people in need. A new home and educational support costs as little as $1,500 dollars per family.

Vietnam has three distinct regions: North, Central, and South. The Northern parts of Vietnam was the geographical origin of ancient Vietnam. The Central region is best characterized by the Vietnamese Imperial Courts. The Southern region is characterized by the rice paddies and extensive farm lands. These collective characteristics are embodied in the Hope for Tomorrow logo.

The HOPE logo has three distinct colors - red, yellow and green. Red symbolizes the combine heritage and bloodline that all Vietnamese shared. Based on the mythical Vietnamese genesis story, all Vietnamese are descendants of Âu Cơ and Lạc Long Quân. Yellow represents the Vietnamese Imperial Courts located in Central Vietnam. Green represents the extensive rice paddles and farm lands of South Vietnam.

Spiritually, the three figures holding hands have different meaning based on your belief. For Christians, the three figures holding hands represents the Holy Trinity: The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit. For Buddhists, the three figures holding hands represents the three gem: The Buddha, The Buddhist Cannon, and the Sangha (Buddhist community of monks).

The HOPE logo is the embodiment of the UNITY of HOPE, LOVE and CARE. PROUD to SERVE.
