The concept of the project was conceived in November 2010, as part of AIESEC in Vietnam’s

initiative to clear the gaps between our society and the underprivileged children, help 5,000

children in Ho Chi Minh city region over the next 5 years to have positive mindset, contribute to

their development by working directly with children, learning from them to provide children –

oriented programs.

After six months developed and carried the project, we have obtained the initial achievements:

NUMBER OF CHILDREN INVOLVED:

During the first phase from May to August, 150 children have benefited from project programs

and absorbed new technique/ method to improve their own education. In addition, we also

bring new atmosphere in their life this summer when they have new friends, both locals and

foreigners

NUMBER OF ORPHANAGES/ SPECIAL SCHOOLS:

With suitable content, 5 orphanages/ special schools agree to become partners with the

projects:

- Green Bamboo

- Tan Binh

- Sunlight

- Maison Chance

- Binh Trieu

NUMBER OF EVENTS/ WORKSHOPS ORGANIZED:

We visit orphanages/ schools and conduct the session every week, we have successfully

organized 48 events/ workshops

NUMBER OF INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEERS INVOLVED:

The project is run with the involvement of 6 foreign volunteers from United States, Canada,

Germany, France and Malaysia. They involved in building project programs, interacting with and

teaching children, which allow us to utilize their creative thinking and upgrade the impact we

make.

In phase 1, we have developed and carried the project programs as follows to achieve our

goals:

- Buddy program

- Smart learning

- Positive life

BUDDY PROGRAM

We divided children into team including 7 – 8 members. They work in team to learn teamwork

and support each other.

A pair of project team (local and foreigner) was responsible for each team. We close to children

to give them love and care; provide coaching & mentoring for each buddy team, tracking

progress and writing children development report, motivating & giving feedback.

SMART LEARNING

Provide children with effective methods and skills for smart learning and improving their

studying. The smart learning has 7 topics:

- Personal goal setting

- Setting plan

- Effective reading skills

- Using mindmap

- Concentration ability

- Overcoming laziness

- How to get good results in examination

POSITIVE LIFE

Inspire belief to take ownership of their development. This program include four topics as

follows:

- Love to life

- Lighten the dreams

- Self-esteem

- Positive thinking

After 4 months involved in the project, we are proud to see the children development through

such categories as follows:

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

Social development focuses on children’s social interactions and relationships with other

children and adults in good way such as:

Developing a good understanding of fair play and an understanding of rules moving from

sharing when encouraged, to becoming sociable and well balanced and showing a caring

attitude towards others

Moving from playing alone in a focused manner to playing cooperatively with other

children

Responds to our requests most of the time.

Develop cooperative skills/collaborative learning which include helping one another,

taking turns and sharing.

Say ‘please’ or ‘thank you’, when reminded.

Participate in group time, most of the time.

Play group games cooperatively with others.

Be willing to take turns.

Interact in a socially appropriate way with other children, as well as visitors.

Participate in cooperative play with small groups.

Exhibit positive interactions in group settings.

Organise a group to participate in games/activities.

Take responsibility for appropriate care of materials

Cooperates with adults’ requests/expectations and demonstrates self-discipline

WELL BEING/ EMOTIONAL DEVELOPEMENT

Emotional development is the development of the children’s self-esteem, their feelings and

their awareness of the feelings of others as:

Relate warmly and positively to adults and recognise emotion in others

They have learnt how to control their emotions and coping with disappointment

Develop a caring attitude towards others

Show increasing signs of positive interaction in a small group setting

Be willing to take turns and demonstrate appropriate self-control.

Sometimes will have a tantrum when frustrated, but is learning that some behaviour is

unacceptable.

Recognise emotion in others.

Show increasing signs of positive interaction in small groups.

Show a caring attitude towards others.

Respect others and values own and others’ achievements.

Be supportive and helpful to others in small groups.

Understand that people have different preferences, views and beliefs and has an

understanding of how to appropriately relate to others morally and ethically.

ENGLISH SKILLS

Enjoy playing with sounds, words, stories and become more confident with English

They move from using short, simple sentences to speech and comprehension becoming

well established.

To being able to talk about the past, present and future, with a good sense of time.

Increase their ability to follow directions/instructions, and how they respond teacher.

Increase their ability to express their feelings, needs, ideas, etc in English more clearly,

Use four-word sentences consistently.

Have established speech and comprehension but with some immature pronunciations and

unconventional use of grammar.

Ask a variety of questions using the words ‘Who?’, ‘What?’, ‘Where?’, ‘When?’, ‘Why?’, etc.

Sing songs and rhymes.

Speak English in a group and will ask questions.

In first phase, we have built successfully partnership with these organizations:

1. Friend For Street Children (FFSC)

Friends For Street Children (FFSC) is based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and operates through

several centers located in different parts of the city.

It offers basic education to the children of migrants moving in from the countryside to the city

to earn their living. In the FFSC centers, the educational program goes hand-in-hand with

recreational activities and basic health care. The centers also provide vocational training

courses, run activities involving the parents of the students and assist them in getting proper

documentation. Up to now, more than a thousand children attend the FFSC programs.

What we partner:

i. Teaching at Tu Xuong English Center

ii. Work at their office: website development, translation, design… which

help our interns experience how professional NGO deal with children

issues

2. Living Value Education Program

The Living Values Education Programme is a partnership amongst educators around the world,

supported by UNESCO, and part of a global movement for a culture of peace and non-violence.

Currently being implemented in 85 countries, the program helps teachers and parents facilitate

children and youth exploring universal values that would be present in a better world - co-

operation, freedom, happiness, honesty, humility, love, peace, respect, responsibility,

simplicity, tolerance and unity.

What we partner:

Get their agreement for training our project members.

They agree to support us to train children on request.

3. Maison Chance

Maison Chance became an NGO in 1998 and is officially recognized by the Vietnamese

authorities. The center shelters, on average, 50 orphans and disable people. In addition, the

Association assists more than 200 underprivileged children who live locally. They receive

elementary education on a daily basis, and subsequently are trained to become employees in

their workshop. Beside this, the center reaches out to over 500 poverty-stricken people

annually.

Going through first phase with good points and improving points, we suggest that

the project should be carried in the following way for its sustainable development in the future.
