There are many reasons why patients

choose to participate in a clinical research.

Here's what you should know as a patient

participating in a clinical trial:

You are playing an important role in

advancing medicine and improving

care.

You may have access to new

medications or treatments not yet

available.

All patients are closely monitored

throughout the study to determine

With one of the largest programs in the

Midwest, the pediatric hematology/oncology

division at Advocate Hope Children's

Hospital provides the latest advancements in

diagnostic and treatment services for all

childhood cancers, including leukemia,

lymphoma, brain tumors, neuroblastoma,

tumors of the kidney, sarcomas and

retinoblastoma. As a Children's Oncology

Group (COG) institution we provide all of our

patients with the most current treatment plan

and successes for a cure.

Our highly trained

hematological disorders including

thrombocytopenia, hemophilia, von

Willebrand Disease, coagulapathies,

hemoglobinopathies, leukopenia,

neutropenia and all anemia. Most recently, a

comprehensive Sickle Cell Clinic has been

established.

Our physicians and staff pride themselves by

offering a family-centered, multidisciplinary

approach to all children. Complete care is

provided with access to social workers, child

life specialists, an in-hospital teacher,

Our mission for children

Our mission is to improve

children's health care through

research focused on their

mental, physical, and social

well being. The Center leads

and supports a number of

clinical trials and other studies

that involve young patients and

their families.

At the Advocate Children's

Hospitals, our goal is to

provide the best, evidence-

based care for all children. To

do that, we are actively

involved in clinical research to

better understand, treat, or

prevent childhood illnesses or

conditions. Clinical research is

vital to the advancement of

health care. Our clinicians

(physicians, nurses, and

others) are actively involved in

research and clinical trials.

Pediatric clinical trials and other research are

currently underway in many areas:

Cardiology

Critical Care

These research activities, combined with the

latest technology and expertise, allow us to

provide children with access to the latest

treatments and medications, alternatives to

standard therapies, and additional choices

for care. This research is coordinated

through our central office dedicated to

supporting research involving children, the

Advocate Center for Pediatric Research.
