Hopetoun P-12 College is a Child Safe School
Thanks to Hopetoun Landcare, our students had a wonderful and
creative Buddies session building bird houses.
Principal’s Report
Buddies
The three-week ‘Buddies Block’ commenced earlier this week with students young and older getting together in an exciting project. Our School Chaplain, Helen Searle, has planned worked with Landcare to pre-cut and prepare about thirty bird boxes. The students, working in their buddy groups showing teamwork and coopera-tion, are painting then assembling the boxes. Some will be erected in our school grounds and others will be placed around the lakes. Buddies provides excellent scope for students to work together across age-groups and show our core values of respect, responsibility and teamwork.
Development of our School grounds
Our School Council plans to improve and beautify our school grounds have contin-ued at great pace this week. Concreting of the large shade shelter and pathway was completed today. Contractors as well as parent volunteers have worked to-gether to complete this mammoth task. The area looks magnificent. The next step is to put lines on the concrete to mark out basketball, tennis, bat tennis and mark-ings for various other games. This has been a significant improvement for our school and will be a wonderful facility for students for many years to come.
At the same time there has been a working bee preparing the area and planting the new trees along the front fence. Again, school councillors, under the leader-ship of Simon Cook, parent volunteers and community members have worked tirelessly to get this project completed. A watering system has been installed for the trees, ground preparation work has been completed and trees have been planted.
On behalf of the students of Hopetoun P-12 College I thank Simon, School Council-lors and parents for all of their work on improving our school grounds. The stu-dents appreciate your work and are looking forward to using the undercover area.
SWPBS
We were visited by our School Wide Positive Behaviour coach earlier this week. She assisted the school in commencing the SWPBS system here at Hopetoun and she returns at regular intervals to assess progress and advise on the next steps. Louise was ‘blown away’ by the progress this school was made and she was im-pressed by how well the students know, understand and use our school values. She was amazed that our prep students could tell her our values and what they mean. Their knowledge and understanding exceeded expec-tation. Louise was also impressed by the take-up of the acknowledgment system we have in place. The SWPBS implementation team, led by Mr Baulch and comprising Nicki Bellinger, Mr Robinson, Mr Williamson, Ms Pen-man and parent representative, Allison Frankel, are to be congratulated on their excellent work in developing and promoting this program.
Father’s Day Stall
Our Parents and Friends Club ran a highly successful Father’s Day stall this morning. Many wonderful presents were bought for dads. Thanks to the P&F for providing the opportunity for students to purchase a gift. We wish all dads a wonderful and restful Father’s Day on Sunday.
Pupil-Free Day
Just a reminder that this coming Monday is a pupil-free day. Staff will be at school working on various activities. Teachers will be working on “Planning for Learning”. We will be reviewing school-wide progress towards achieving our improvement targets then planning our new improvement agenda for 2018. We will also be working on budgeting, Respectful Relationships and staffing arrangements for 2018. It is expected that our sen-ior students will use the day to complete set work, to revise and to prepare for their rapidly approaching ex-ams.
Book fair
The Book Fair has now concluded on a highly successful note. We had many students, parents, teachers and visitors who purchased books and various items from the Fair. Thanks for your support and thanks to Moya for organising the Book Fair.

st of September at the
Rainbow Football Oval. ALL students are asked to be there 9:15am sharp please. Parents are responsible for transporting their children to Rainbow.

If bad weather occurs, there will be an announcement made over 3WM (1089) at 7:30am, students will then come to school as normal. Back up day is this Monday the 4

Thank you to Mr Baulch and the unit 1/2 PE class who have assisted with training for this.
** Could parents please let me know if they are having difficulty with transportation so alternative arrangements can be made for students if necessary. This is a school day, so students are required to attend unless they are sick or have a health related condi-

All the best to our students, I’m sure you will do the school proud.
