Excellent Science
*
Why:
*World class science is the foundation of tomorrow’s technologies, jobs and wellbeing
*Europe needs to develop, attract and retain research talent
*Researchers need access to the best infrastructures
*
Why:
*Strategic investments in key technologies (e.g. advanced manufacturing, micro-electronics) underpin innovation across existing and emerging sectors
*Europe needs to attract more private investment in research and innovation
*Europe needs more innovative small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to create growth and jobs
*
Why:
*Concerns of citizens and society/EU policy objectives (climate, environment, energy, transport, etc) cannot be achieved without innovation
*Breakthrough solutions come from multi-disciplinary collaborations, including social sciences & humanities
*Promising solutions need to be tested, demonstrated and scaled up
*
Public private partnerships:
* Through Joint Technology Initiatives or other formal structures (Art. 187)
* Through contractual agreements, which provide inputs for work programmes
* Only when criteria met, e.g. clear commitments from private partners
Public public partnerships:
* Through « ERA-Nets » for topping up individual calls/actions (replacing current ERA-Net, ERA-Net Plus, Inco-Net, Inno-net)
* Through participation in joint programmes between Member States (Art. 185)
* Supporting agendas of Joint Programming Initiatives when in line with Horizon 2020
* Only when criteria met, e.g. financial commitments of participating countries
European Innovation Partnerships:
* Not funding instruments, but for coordination with broader policies and programmes
*

PubblicProcurement of Innovative solution (PPI)
ERA-NET Cofund under Horizon 2020 is designed to support public-public partnerships, including joint programming initiatives between Member States, in their preparation, establishment of networking structures, design, implementation and coordinationof joint activities as well as Union topping-up of a trans-national call for proposals. The main and compulsory activity of the ERA-NET Cofund under Horizon 2020 is theimplementation of the co-funded joint call for proposals that leads to the funding of transnationalresearch and/or innovation projects.
Funding rate: the Union contribution will be limited to maximum 70% of the total eligible costs of the action.

PubblicProcurement of Innovative solution (PPI)
PCP cofund actions aim to encourage public procurement of research, development and validation of new solutions that can bring significant quality and efficiency improvements in areas of public interest, whilst opening market opportunities for industry andresearchers active in Europe. A PCP cofund action provides Union cofunding for a group of procurers (‘buyers group’) to undertake together one joint PCP procurement, so that there isone joint call for tender, one joint evaluation of offers, and a lead procurer awarding the R&D service contracts in the name and on behalf of the buyers group.
Funding rate: the Union contribution will be limited to maximum 20% of the total eligible costs of the action.

Public Procurementof Innovative solution (PPI)
The objective of PPI cofund actions is to enable groups of procurers to share therisks of acting as early adopters of innovative solutions, whilst opening market opportunitiesfor industry. A PPI Cofund action provides Union cofunding for a group of procurers (‘buyersgroup’) to undertake together one joint PPI procurement, so that there is one joint PPI call fortender launched by the ‘lead procurer’ and one joint evaluation of offers.
CSA
Coordinationand SupportAction

FTI aims to accelerate the commercialization process by providing extended funding opportunities through an open and agile scheme nurturing bottom-up ideas from innovative constituencies across Europe. The FTI pilot supports projects undertaking innovation from the demonstration stage through to market uptake, including stages such as piloting, test-beds, systems validation in real world/working conditions, validation of business models, pre-normative research, and standard-setting. It targets relatively mature new technologies, concepts, processes and business models that need a last development step to reach the market and achieve wider deployment. To this end, if a proposal involves technological innovation, the consortium must declare that the technology or the technologies concerned are at least at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6. Projects can be interdisciplinary.
Proposals must relate to any field under the specific objective "Leadership in enabling and industrial technologies" and/or to any of the specific objectives under the priority "Societal challenges"
