CENTRE HOSPITALIER DE L’UNIVERSITÉ DE MONTRÉAL (CHUM). CANADA
Client: Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal Completion Date Phase I: 2016 Completion Date Phase II: 2020 Budget: €1,461.9 million
PPP-developed hospital complex totaling 332,656 m², in the center of Montreal, with a capacity for 770 hospital admissions. Contract includes design and construction. Built using the Fast Track system in adverse climatic conditions, with winter temperatures that could reach -40 ºC, the CHUM hospital is located in a strategic area in the heart of the la Santé district.
Construction consists of two main phases to minimize impact on urban services and hospital operations. An important part of the construction project includes the restoration of historic buildings in Montreal, such as the bell tower of Saint-Sauveur church and the facade of the Garth house, which have been withdrawn from their former use by the client and a become part of the new CHUM complex—acting as a link between the city’s past and future.

The CHUM hospital has received significant award recognitions, including the 2011 Bond Deal of the Year Award from Project Finance International (PFI) magazine for its financing system and the 2012 Gold Prize for the project finance of this facility, awarded on an annual basis by the Canadian Council for Public Private Partnerships (CCPPP).

The Sidra Medical and Research Center includes design, construction, and equipment for a complex totaling 378,000 m² in surface are.
This project consists of several buildings, including a 10-story, 207,076 m² hospital with 384 beds, a 9-story, 51,962 m² outpatient clinic, a 7-story, 84,000 m² parking garage with 950 parking spaces connected by a bridge to hospital proper, an underground car parking lot with direct access to the hospital and clinic, a 25,000 m² services and office building, and landscaped surroundings of 150,000 m² with fountains, gardens, paths, sculptures, historical buildings, etc.
The Sidra Medical and Research Center is a digitalized center equipped with the most sophisticated information systems to support its clinical, research, and business processes. The hospital and research center possess the most advanced technologies, including robotic surgery systems, automated transportation systems, computerized surgery units, intra-operatory magnetic resonance, clinical information processing systems, genomic labs, etc.

Particular aspects of this project’s implementation
This project was developed to incorporate modern management technologies with the Fast Track system using a collaborative management design space on the internet. The medical equipment design was conducted using shared digital environments. The delivery of the buildings for this complex was carried out using digital models implemented through a network of portable electronic tablets, assuring quality control and management of the commissioning process. All documentation for project maintenance and services was managed online through external servers accessible in real-time with contributions from stakeholders, subcontractors, and suppliers.

This hospital expansion included the construction of a new 110,000 m² building designed to incorporate the existing building and sub-divide them into two differentiated wings.
The East Wing, to be used as a Day Hospital, was structured around two transversal patios, and the West Wing, which houses the outpatient services, was arranged around a longitudinal patio to enhance patient accessibility and pedestrian flow. It connected directly with the service areas of the main hospital.
SANTA CRISTINA HOSPITAL. MADRID. SPAIN Client: Madrid Health Service Completion Date: 2007 Budget: €54.7 million
This project involved a 212 bed inpatient facility renovation and a 17,581 m² expansion of a new outpatient services building providing rehabilitation, radiology, laboratories, testing and three operating theaters for day surgery.
The construction of the connecting gallery and the renovation of the existing building has allowed its original elements to be maintained—declaring it a public interest monument by the city.

MIAMI CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL. FLORIDA. USA

The renovation and expansion work on the Miami Children’s Hospital and its grounds includes 38,900 m² of interior work with improvements to the laboratory and new heliport. It also involves the renovation and expansion of the Accident and Emergency Unit, Outpatient Building, Orthodontics Department, storage facility for gases used in medical procedures, Endoscopy Center, and the restoration of the Catheter Laboratory.
In addition to work carried out to-date, plans include construction of a new, 6-story, 16,700 m² inpatient hospital block.
The renovation and expansion of the Miami Children’s Hospital will include an increased capacity of 296 beds.
SOUTH MIAMI HOSPITAL. FLORIDA. USA
Client: Baptist Health South Florida Completion Date: 2010 Budget: €80.9 million
Renovation and expansion work for South Miami Hospital and its grounds included a total of 26,245 m², encompassing the intensive care unit for newborns, prenatal clinic, and delivery rooms among other areas.
In addition, management services were provided for the 7,400 m² clinical expansion which included a new emergency ward and surgery unit with fifteen operating theaters. The existing surgery area was renovated to incorporate new auxiliary services such as post-operatory recovery and central sterilization.
After the renovation and expansion work to South Miami Hospital and its grounds, hospitalization capacity increased to 285 beds.

20,000 m² of new construction, subjected to strict anti-seismic regulations. The hospital includes medical equipment and IT systems for management and statistical data processing.
INTERNATIONAL CLINICAL RESEARCH AND INVESTIGATION CENTRE. BRNO. CZECH REPUBLIC. Client: Saint Ana’s University Hospital, Brno Completion Date: 2012 (Phase I completed ) Budget: €48.6 million
Two buildings were constructed during the first stage of this research center: building C1, which houses the Neurology Clinic and the Science and Research Clinic, and building B1, which houses the First Internal Cardiovascular Clinic and Science and Research Clinic. Total project construction consisted of 24,000 m² with over 180 beds.
The center will include top-level scientific laboratories, such as the Ultra-precise Measurements Laboratory and the Cardiovascular and Brain Operations Laboratory, which will be equipped with advanced display methods and high quality technologies for stereotactic navigation.
