OVENIA Hostelling International SloveniaHostelling International Slovenia (HI Slovenia) is the only national representative of Slovenia in the International Youth Hostel Federation (Hostelling International – HI). HI is a non-governmental and non-profit organization active in about 90 countries in the world. The organization works closely together with UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization), WTO (World Tourism Organization) and other important international organization – also it was proclaimed the sixth largest organization that offers overnighting. With 4 million members it is one of the largest youth organizations in the world and is the only network of youth hostels with about 4.000 objects for spending the night, 1.5 million beds and 30-40 overnight stays annually.

HI has high standards for youth hostels, based on the treatment of the guests, security, cleanliness and privacy. But it is not its only role. Since it was established in 1932 it encourages young people for better intercultural understanding through informal education and peace, global friendship and environmentalism. The international organization, with a strong support of its national members, it offers interaction among youth of various nationalities and cultures, exchange of experience, getting to know their peers and after all themselves.

For this the organization has international programs for youth, above all the ones with lesser chances, through which we spread the mission of Hostelling International, which remained the same since 1932:

To promote the education of all young people of all nations, but especially young people of limited means, by encouraging in them a greater knowledge, love and care of the countryside and an appreciation of the cultural values of towns and cities in all parts of the world, and as ancillary thereto, to provide hostels or other accommodation in which there shall be no distinctions of race, nationality, colour, religion, sex, class or political opinions and thereby to develop a better understanding of their fellow men, both at home and abroad.

PZS, with its 48 hostels around Slovenia, ensures safe, budget friendly and quality boarding for all types of groups. This includes the educational field trips with various themes (history, art or language courses) as well as extracurricular activities for schools, students, sporting and other groups – or simply friends who want a joint active holiday.

Youth hostel Brežice is a modern and stylish decorated hostel that provides accommodation for all generations. Its convenient location in the middle of the town’s park ensures a pleasant stay and easy access to various points of interest. It offers accommodation in double rooms, six bed dorms with shared bathroom and toilet facilities and private ensuites with private bathrooms. All rooms are air-conditioned and lovingly decorated with silhouettes of animals. With additional beds we can accept up to 71 guests. Guests can use the common kitchen which is also equipped with a TV and a DVD player. On the first floor there is terrace furnished with tables and chairs, which provides a pleasant place for socializing or relaxing. At the reception, which is also one of the tourist information point, guest can get all necessary information concerning the tourist destination. The hostel is specialized for both hikers and bikers.


Hostel Brežice is located in the center of town Brežice and in the direct vicinity of renaissance castles and confluence of the Sava and Krka. Also carefully tidy city park creates a pleasant surrounding of the hostel, where children can play on a safe playground and visitors can rest on benches. Trees in the park are marked with signs on which the name of tree species is written in Slovenian and in Latin language. The vicinity of the town centre is allowing easy access to main attractions such as Brežice’s castle, water tower, town hall, church and several great restaurants, where you can enjoy in delicious meals. Not far away is the largest Slovenian health resort Terme Čatež, where guests can go swimming and exercise.

The surroundings of the Hostel

Breakfast, lunch and dinnerGuests can use a fully equipped kitchen with a dining room, where they can prepare themselves a warm meal. We also offer a possibility of a self-served breakfast for an extra charge. We also arrange lunches and suppers at a local restaurants. If a guest desires, the meals can be delivered to the hostel but in this case the

price is a bit higher.

Breakfast: Possibility of a self-served breakfast for an extra charge. It usually consists of coffee , milk, tea, juice, chocolate and corn flakes, bread, different spreads (pate, honey, butter, jam, chocolate spreads), fruit.

Lunch / Dinner: Depends on the restaurant. They can prepare different menus that contain meat or a vegetarian meal. Menus can be prepared according to guests wishes by a preliminary agreement.



Additional offers of the hostelRoom type We can offer accommodation in 17 rooms. We have 3 double bed suites with a

private bathroom, one of the suites is also appropriate for disabled people. Then 4 six bed dorms and 10 two bed rooms with a shared bathroom and toilet facilities on the individual floor. Rooms are being opened with an electronic card.

Lockers in the room All rooms are furnished with wardrobes. In case, the guest has some valuable things we can rent him a safe, which is located in the reception.

Baggage room We can arrange for our guests that their baggage is being saved in rooms on the first floor or in a special area of the reception.

Air conditioning All rooms are air-conditioned.Internet / Wi fi There is a free access to the wireless internet in the whole building.Linen Bedding is included in the price of overnight stay and it is being changed every 5

days. There is a possibility of a more frequent change for an extra charge.Towels We provide towels for an extra charge.Laundry Guests have an option of purchasing a token for washing and drying their apparel.

We have two washing and drying machines. The laundry room is conveniently placed on the ground floor of the hostel.

Conference room Possibility of renting a conference room, which has 104,4m 2. It can accept up to 55 people and is fully equipped with a speaker podium, microphone, a white board, a mobile projection screen, a projector, and a computer for projections.

Elevator /Handicap access Entrance to the hostel is adjusted for physically disabled people.Parking Free parking space is available for our guests in front of the hostel.Outside recreation activities

Behind the hostel is an asphalted playground which can be used for sport activities. Recreational activities can also be performed in the park and on the lawn by the hostel.

Sport hall There are 224, 4m2 of gymnastic surface with drawn lines on the playground for basketball, volleyball, small football, badminton. There are also Swedish ladders positioned on the walls and two baskets.

Pool table /Table tennis Guests have an option of borrowing a table for table tennis and rackets.Table soccer /Swimming pool /Food Option of breakfast for extra charge and a smaller food offer in Mc clubDining room Dining room is placed in the kitchen. It can accept up to 60 people.Kitchen Kitchen is in common use for every guest. It’s fully equipped with dishes, different

sizes of plates, cups, glasses, stove with oven, microwave oven, toaster, water heater. It has everything necessary for preparing a tasty meal.


Local sights and attractions

Castle BrežiceCastle Brežice was built in the middle of the 16th century and it gained its baroque appearance at the end of the 17th century. Now it is home to the Posavje museum with numerous collections but the most recognizable room is the festival hall called Knight’s Hall, where numerous events take place. Other castles in surroundings: castle Mokrice, castle Bizeljsko, castle Pišece.


Aqueduct towerThe aqueduct tower was built because the need of an urban waterwork, when Brežice got electric light and a sewer system. The tower is decorated with three small balconies and the top is completed by an octagonal reservoir set up on sixteen brackets. The tower is the most recognizable sight of town Brežice. Today there is a coffee bar with three floors.

Jovsi and DobravaJovsi and Dobrava are actually two separate ecological areas. Jovsi is a grassy floodplain located between The Sotla river and the Kapelske Gorice hill. In the nature sciences and information room the visitor can watch a short movie about this beautiful natural heritage. Jovsi and Dobrava are also a home for many endangered animals and plant species.

Jovsi and DobravaRepnice are caves, dug in flint-stone sand, that Pannonian sea washed up in the area of Bizeljsko. The locals used them for storing turnip and others products of the field , in this days they used it for ripening and warehousing of the wine. There is various of repnice in the vicinity: repnica Najger, repnice Graben, repnice Pudvoi, repnica at Peču.

Sport and recreational Activities available:

- learning the first steps of surfing in First Wake park on lake Boršt, - rent a kayak or canoe, play volleyball on sand, picnics arranged by the river Krka, polygon for archery and paintball,- possibility of fishing on Krka, Sava, Sotla and on Prilipe, - learning the survival in nature, skydiving, karting, - cycling tours: secret of brown-yellow sand, Orla vas tour, trip on the land of red wine, road in the Mokrice forests. Tours are appropriate for more demanding cyclists and occasional cyclists,- hiking paths: Vid’s path, Sromlje path, Brežice mountaineering path, the path of the Kozje combatants, Zasavje mountaineering path.

- Ban’s homestead: one of the oldest homesteads in Slovenia,- Pleteršnik’s homestead: home of the Slovene linguist Maks Pleteršnik; it contains Pleteršnik’s memorial collection, - Herbal farm Fabinc: cultivation and processing of herbs in natural manner,- visiting different farms and wineries, - collection of majolicas by family Babič: 1300 different and interesting majolicas - hunting museum Polovič: a unique private collection, where visitors can see 50 different species of animals.
