    It is less than two months from our gathering and the dates and events are set. We hope to give you someideas on how to enjoy the events and activities planned during your stay with this News and Updates

    email that we will be sending you every week until the start of the Gathering.

    Huakai (Excursions) We have tours planned every day of the gathering for both registrants and their

    families to enjoy. These tours are unique as we have some of the mostknowledgeable and respectedkumu (teachers) and kpuna (elders) who have agreed to be your guides. You will visit some of our mostrevered and honored sites. You will also participate in the protocols of welcome to each site. Please visithosw.com and click on to Excursion (Huakai) to sign up.     Daily Tours for Oahu:Alii Legacy Tour (1-4): Tours begin 8:30am until 3:30pm Mon Thu, Sep 6-9. Price: $75

    Each day there will be a different tour as some sites will not be available. Depending on which touryou take, you may visit Nuuanu Pali (the site of King Kamehamehas great victory),

    Hnaiakamalama (Queen Emmas Summer Palace), Mauna Ala (Royal Mausoleum), Iolani Palace(the residence of Hawaiis royalty), and/or Bishop Museum. (Lunch included)

    Your walking tour (1 to 2 hours) begins at world famous Khi Beach on Waikk. Your guide will

    take you among the hotels and tell stories and legends of ancient times when Waikk was thehealing center of Oahu. Next you will board a double-hulled canoe under the expert guide ofseasoned paddlers. You will view all the surfing locations as you canoe out to the surf and see acompletely different view of Waikk from the sea.

    You will visit three ancient sites on theWindward side of Oahu: N Phaku o

    Waimea Valley is an ahupuaa, a community ofpeople that survive by sharing their resources

    Experience Kneohe, starting with a visit toPaepae o Heeia fishpond, where aquaculture

    Experience this island through the eyes of our kumu, those who know the lore and mystery of thisoldest of the Hawaiian islands. Begin your day at Hena, known to be the birthplace of the hula,

    participating in the protocols of welcome with a hula hlau (school). Next, visit Wailua River, whereyour guide will show the many heiau(temples) that line the banks of the river. Next morning youwill visit the salt ponds where Hawaiian sea salt is processed. Finally, you will visit Kokee, wheresome of the rarest plants and animals in the world reside in beautiful Waimea Canyon.

    Haleakal Sunrise Tour Thu and Fri, September 9-10 Bus Pickup @ 3:00pm$365 per person (Air, hotel, ground transportation and some meals included)

    Your evening begins with a flight to Kahului, where you will enjoy a buffet. Your day begins at3:00am with a trek to Haleakal, the House of the Sun. One of the most sacred sites in Hawaiianculture, you will participate in the chant to bring up the sun. You will visit ao Valley, the site of ahistoric battle between Kamehameha the Great and the army of Maui. Next, you will visit historicLahaina town for lunch, then on to Mokuula Island which is considered the spiritual piko (center) ofMaui. Your Maui adventure concludes with a late afternoon flight back to Honolulu.

    Hawaii Island Sacred Sites Fri and Sat, September 10-11 Bus Pickup @ 6:00am$395 per person (Air, hotel, ground transportation and some meals included)

    Your day begins with a visit Puukohola Heiau, a temple built by Kamehameha. Next you will tourhistoric Kona town, including a guided tour of Hulihee Palace, a favorite retreat of the royal

    families. After lunch, you will continue on to Outrigger Keauhou and take a walking tour of theheiau and koa (sacred sites) in Keauhou. You will learn Native Hawaiian chants, crafts and games.Your tour will conclude under the stars at Hapaialii Heiau, a stone monolith calendar, where youwill be shown how the stars were used in navigation. At the end of the tour, you will be serveddinner. The next morning you will visit Kealakekua, the home of Kona coffee and the site of

    Captain Cooks tragic death. After lunch, you will visit Puuhonua O Honaunau Heiau, known as theCity of Refuge. You will travel on to Ka Lae, or South Point, one of the traditional arrival anddeparture sites for Voyaging Canoes. You will then return to Kona for your flight back to Honolulu.

    When you arrive in Hilo, you will be welcomed by n kpuna, our elders, and participate in theprotocols of welcome to the community. You will then bus up to Kilauea volcano and experience atraditional greeting and ceremony to Pele the volcano goddess at Halemaumau crater. Spend therest of the day in the volcano area experiencing the power of Pele. On the way back down thevolcano, you will visit selected sites in Hilo town. You will return to Honolulu in the late afternoon.

    Kahoolawe-Healing and Island 4 day tour: Thurs Sun, September 9-12 Bus Pickup @ 3:00pm$475 per person (Air, lodging, ground transportation and meals included))Kahoolawe is a sacred island, a true wahipana (place of legend) for all Native Hawaiians and people who callHawai`i home; deeply rooted in history, culture and religion. Very few Hawaiians have had the opportunity tovisit this island. Orientation for those taking this tour will occur on Tuesday during the Gathering. This is amandatory orientation. Your evening begins with a flight to Kahului, where you will check in to a hotel andenjoy a buffet dinner. That evening you will be given a briefing on the history and cultural importance of theisland. Early on Friday morning you will depart by boat to Hanakanaia Bay on Kahoolawe. Upon landing youwill tour the island and then begin an all-day project helping to restore the islands environment. You willstay at Hanakanaia. You will depart the island early on Sunday morning, going back to Maui and then flyingon to Honolulu in mid afternoon.
