PRESIDENT’S REPORT

.

The month of September has gone with a very successful Swap Meet- Thank you to all the members

who made themselves available to make this, our main event for the year, so great. The Swap just gets

better & better each year. It was very pleasing to hear all the great compliments on how well it was run,

that makes the one derogative remark so insignificant – Well done everyone.

Malcolm was running the All BRITISH Day at the Airport which was also very well attended – well

done Malcolm – Congrats !

Then on Sunday 13th

September we drove to Wallendbeen to watch the re-enactment of the Kangaroo

March of 1915 – the march – the Horses - and all the entertainment went off very well – we won’t see

the next 100 years celebrations !

This was also a memorial run for Ken Frost (Frosty). Lorna and her family were there with Frosty’s

Indian Scout and side car and of course the model one he made. What a popular display on such a

lovely sunny day.

Looking forward to seeing more members out and about in the coming months.

Happy Motoring Harro

ANNUAL VEHICLE INSPECTION – 2015 All vehicles on Conditional Registration must be inspected and passed for roadworthiness prior to

registration renewal each year.

This year the CAMC Inspection Day will be held on Sunday 29th November 2015 commencing at

8.30AM at the Automotive Workshop of the Cootamundra TAFE College, Mackay Street Cootamundra.

When you present your vehicle for inspection, please bring with you:

(a) Registration renewal papers (if you have received them), and

(b) Annual Club Membership renewal fee ($30), or your receipt showing that you have already paid. Page 4

When your vehicle has been inspected and passed and your membership paid, the “Conditional

Registration Historic Vehicle Declaration” form (included with your registration renewal – but I have

some in case you have not yet received your papers) can be completed and signed declaring that:

(a) The vehicle is in a safe operating condition, and

(b) The registered operator is a financial member of the club.

If your registration renewal is due during December or January bring the vehicle to the inspection day,

even though you may not have received your renewal papers.

Any member who may not be able to attend the Inspection Day on the 29th

November, or has more

than one vehicle to be inspected, could bring their vehicle to the TAFE on a Wednesday night between 6

and 9 PM when club members (and inspectors) are at the weekly workshop session. If you intend to do

this, please ring Alan Thompson to confirm appointment.

For new members who may wish to put a vehicle on Conditional Registration for the first time, RTA

application forms will be available.

There will be tea and coffee on hand for morning tea.

Club Inspectors: Please make a note of the Inspection Day date and try to be available. Your help is

needed and appreciated.

SCROUNGED STUFF

HISTORIC REPORT : 3 September, 2015 -- Announcement from NSW Roads Minister

Duncan Gay that from 1 October historic vehicle owners operating under the current conditional

registration scheme . . . . .

can from 1 October opt-in via participating clubs to recording movements in a personal log-book

instead of recording in the club’s Movement Book.

Club vehicles are encouraged to be on the road more often under a new conditional registration scheme

trial, Mr Gay said.

Under a two year trial of the log-book scheme owners of conditionally registered vehicles can switch

from the limited use which was just restricting these mechanical pieces of art.

This NSW Liberals & Nationals initiative will bring NSW into line with several other states, Mr Gay

said.

Roads and Maritime Services adds that – commencing 1 October 2015 the Log Book Trial will allow

vehicles within the existing Historic Vehicle Scheme 60 days of general use (i.e. club events,

maintenance and personal use) each year. Each day’s use must be recorded in the Log book which will

be issued.

COINCIDENCE: 3 September, 2015 at our Wednesday night Automotive Workshop – Paul Ballard used

the tyre fitting machine to fit two tyres and tubes to two wheels of his 1934 MORRIS 25.

3 September, 2014 . . . . Paul used the tyre fitting machine to fit two tyres on the wheels of his 1926

Citroen.

In August a convoy of 17 old tractors drove from Kalgoorie to Alice Springs along the inland tracks.

The destination was the Alice Springs Transport Hall of Fame Red Centre National Rally which

resulted in a huge display and Parade Sunday 20 August.

John Rickett’s AUSTIN HEALEY is now 57 years old and one wonders whether Transmission Seals

are still available after 57 years. No worry -- HARDEN BEARING SERVICES provided them and

they fit perfectly. With the new seals the Healey has stopped dripping oil.

See in COMING EVENTS : 18 October is Damper Day. What is Damper Day?

It’s an event cooking a damper at a camp-fire. Young Heritage Motor Club has been holding this

activity on an annual event for more than 20 years. Many members of Cootamundra club attend and try

their hands at putting their dough mix in a camp oven pot. They sprinkle coals over it and see who

makes the best one (or the worst one). Held on a member’s farm, attended in our old cars, it’s great fun

to watch the disasters . . . or to take part in the cooking contest if you have the gear.

About the Kangaroo March featured in this Newsletter:

In 1915 Recruitment Marches for the War Effort left various towns in Australia destined for the capital cities.

The Kangaroo March went from Wagga Wagga to Campbelltown.

The Boomerang March went from Parkes to Bathurst.

The Coo-ee March went from Gilgandra to Bathurst.

The Waratah March went from Nowra to Sydney.

The Kookaburra March went . . . .

In September Cootamundra was able to witness a re-enactment of the march which volunteers took one hundred years ago,

overnighting at Cootamundra Showground.

VETERAN car rally

This year the annual Shannons National ALL VETERAN TOUR will be at GOULBURN 1-6 November.

Thursday afternoon, 5 November, after visiting Goulburn Waterworks, the Railway Heritage Centre and

“Riversdale” Homestead, the Veteran Cars, all over 100 years old, will be on display at Belmore Park,

Goulburn. Worth a look!

PAST EVENTS

Saturday 29 August -- WATTLE-TIME PARADE -- COOTAMUNDRA The Street Parade is for floats promoting Businesses and clubs. The big crowd of spectators seemed pleased at

our club’s convoy.

The 1960 STUDEBAKER of Alan Thompson had the privilege of leading the parade . . . . he carried Miss

Wattle 2015 followed by Lynn Gavin’s TORANA and John Lyne’s AUSTIN Big Seven Saloon - and then dozens more:

Saturday 5 September --- FOUR BIG ACTIVITIES in Cootamundra

Malcolm Chaplin reports on a “Weekend On Wheels”:

SPRINTS

As they have done for some years, members of the NSW Vintage Sports Car Club spent the weekend in

Coota running their sprints meeting at the airport, testing cars over a timed ¼ mile sprint down the

airstrip. Some very rare and exotic cars from the 20s, 30s, and 40s era, we were privileged to see being

put through their paces. This year the VSCC was joined by a contingent of 70s ‘muscle’-cars, swelling

their ranks to over 60 vehicles.

Page 7

ALL-BRITISH DISPLAY : Complimenting this VSCC event on Saturday, the Cootamundra Antique

Motor Club held an ‘All British Day’, a display at the airport of Classic and Vintage/ Veteran cars,

motor bikes and trucks of British manufacture. Owners from around a large region and as far away as

Wollongong, brought their vehicles, resulting in an attendance of 93 cars, 8 motor bikes and a truck -

all British vehicles.

A great variety of vehicles ranging in age from the 1908 STAR onwards, was present. Large crowds

attended the events all day, a hive of activity well catered for by the Lions Club in their food caravan.

SOME PICS - just a small portion - TAKEN

AT THE ALL-BRITISH DISPLAY AT

COOTAMUNDRA AIRPORT

Malcolm seems pleased.

Page 8

HOT-RODS SHOW N SHINE

Also on Saturday in Albert Park saw a meeting of The Wizards Hot Rod Club displaying approximately

50 cars and 25 motor bikes. These vehicles show remarkable engineering , attention to detail and

incredible paint jobs. This event was organised by Peter Close, an ex-member of our club.

Brian Ridge first (could have) 1. put the white Ford in The Sprints – he did (2.) check out what was at the All British, and then (3.) parked his

1934 FORD at the Wizards Hot-Rod Show and then (4.) went to the Showground to help set up the Swap Meet :

COOTAMUNDRA FATHERS DAY SWAP MEET

Many visitors stayed in Coota to attend the Swap Meet on Sunday at the Showground also hosted by

Cootamundra Antique Motor Club. Over 300 stall holders plied their wares with 3,000 plus people

coming through the gates during the day, in search of that elusive object to finish their project. Here,

Riding for the Disabled catered for the event, busy for hours feeding the crowd.

MGB of Joel Clout of Wagga checks out of The Swap Meet :

Page 9

MODEL A FORD RALLY : Fords manufactured from 1928 to 1931 were on display at the SWAP

MEET on Sunday. These cars came to Cootamundra for morning tea .

Model A Fords still rank as one of the longest mass produced cars, 1 million being sold in the first 16

months of production.

Well done to everyone involved in running these 4 EVENTS ! It certainly resulted in a lot of people

visiting, spending time and money in our town. We will do it again next year .

M.J.C.

Saturday 12 September --- HARDEN SHOW -- Alan Thompson’s 1960 STUDEBAKER Lark was handy

to parade the Show Girls:

Lots of cars from our club went on display at the Harden Show. Not as many as previous years because

the Kangaroo March Re-enactment ceremony at Cootamundra needed some of us there, to help.

The Kangaroo March Re-enactment departed Wagga Wagga a week previously on its way to

Cootamundra.

12 Sept.: Reaching Cootamundra - the Kangaroo March walkers paraded with horses and carts.

Military vehicles carried the walkers equipment.

The military vehicles of John & John Mackie were part of the parade.

Page 10

The 1910 TALBOT driven by John Manwaring of Cootamundra added a great touch of reality of the

era of World War 1:

The next day - the Kangaroo March continued from Cootamundra and marched to Wallendbeen:

Sunday 13 September --- DISPLAY AT THE RE-ENACTMENT OF THE 1915

KANGAROO MARCH -- AT WALLENDBEEN

At Wallendbeen there was an action packed day of Kangaroo March activities. There was a big parade

including a marching band and the Light-horse. Once again, the TALBOT with John and Caroline

Manwaring aboard, paraded. His excellency The Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove unveiled a

plaque in honour of the Kangaroo Marchers.
