PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Hello everyone – it’s time for another report – I’m sure I do at least 2 of these each month.
The last couple of months have been busy – in mid July we had a lunch at the Long Track Pantry at Jugiong. We were a little down on numbers, but the six of us who attended enjoyed the day very much. Unfortunately Alex & Lynne Joss didn’t make it to Jugiong – as his Suburu blew a radiator hose at Coolac and made some temporary repairs and limped home, after having a lovely lunch at the Coolac Hotel.
Wagga Swap Meet was on again – I went along with Barry. It was freezing, as usual, in the morning but improved during the day. We had a good look around, I bought a couple of things and then drove home.
The last Saturday night in July is Christmas in July at Stockinbingal – these Monthly Dinners the ladies of the Bowling Club put on are always very enjoyable.
Then on Sunday 26th we are going to the Sunday Markets at the Tea House at Bethungra – come along & spend some money and a cuppa.
For August don’t forget the Casserole Lunch at Trish & Colin’s - Sunday 9th August.
Let Betsy know what you are bringing along.
The Cootamundra Deb Ball is on again and they require our services once more, on Saturday 15th August, so please make your vehicle available.
The run with the Young club to a Miniature Railway on 16th August has been postponed to another date to be announced.
Saturday 22nd August is the Ganmain Show. Saturday 29th August is the Wattle Time Parade and a Pie Night at Stockinbingal Bowling Club that night . That’s about it. Hope to see you at these events. Harro
Lake Cargelligo What a great event the weekend at Lake Cargelligo was, but the trip down was a bit testing with fog
from just out of Cootamundra to half way between West Wylong and the Lake, but once at Lake
Cargelligo all was fine.
We had a little hiccup at the club for dinner on Saturday night, but thanks to Ted and one Chef – one
Waitress & a wife to do the dishes - a disaster was diverted.
Kevin White and Betsy & I took our Caravans - and set up at the Caravan Park – a very nice – very
clean and friendly park. The three of us sat outside the vans in the sun, having a drink and a natter
before we went to dinner.
Sunday morning was pack up time for us, with everything wet through from a very heavy dew over
night .
Next was a trip to a Clydesdale farm with one horse showing off her job of cutting up hay for lunch.
There were more of the horses on show and Steve took us into his leather work shop, where he makes a
lot of the equipment he uses in the shows he does. This was a very enjoyable visit – but all too soon Ted
said “we have to go now to see some cars in Barmedman” well, I for one (Betsy) would have rather
stayed with the beautiful horses for the afternoon, but of course we headed along to the Cars and home
to Coota.
Thank You Ted for a great weekend. KEN & BETSY Page 5

annual event it was so good.

For Pre-1948 MOTORCYCLES : The Vintage Motor Cycle Club of Australia (NSW) is holding their 60th
(60th
!)
Anniversary Rally 30 October 2015 at COWRA. The VVMCA held its first rally in 1955 at Parramatta Park.
It’s their diamond jubilee! John Simpfendorfer has Entry Forms.
The next business Meeting of the Heritage Motoring Council (The Bush Council) – will be held
24 October at Orange. Each club should send a delegate. VOLUNTEER!
At the Easter Meeting (A.G.M.) of the H.M.C. (The Bush Council) -
Vice-President of H.M.C., - Matt Lack, outlined his plans of a trip to Hershey Swap Meet, U.S.A. , in
October 2016 - for members of the Bush Council.
Further information will be in next H.M.C.’s newsletter – The Bush Telegraph.
At the H.M.C. Meeting it was proposed that Temora Antique Motor Club host the 2016 ANNUAL
RALLY over the Easter Weekend – 25 to 27 March.
And it was proposed that Antique Car Club Albury/Wodonga hosts the 2017 H.M.C. ANNUAL
RALLY – Thursday18 to Monday 22 May, 2017 -- in conjunction with Albury Club’s 50th
ANNIVERSARY RALLY. Page 7
And – Namoi Valley Antique Vehicle Club expressed an interest to host the ANNUAL RALLY in
conjunction with their club’s 40th
year - at NARRABRI. The rally is proposed to be at Easter or in
July.
So – Albury and Narrabri clubs are considering changing the date of the EASTER RALLY – which
would be a Good Thing. (Avoid the Easter traffic.)
New Secretary of newly named Heritage Motoring Council (Bush Council) is : ----
Christine Hillbrick-Boyd (member of Southern Tablelands Heritage Automotive Restorers Club).
She would like clubs to Email their newsletters rather than hard copies to her at Queanbeyan.
The address of the Bush Council is now:
H.M.C.
P.O. Box 641
QUEANBEYAN A BLAST FROM THE PAST:
The Cootamundra branch of the Antique & Classic Motor Club was formally opened in 1967. 1967! Office Bearers were: Col Collingridge President
Jim Beddie Secretary
Ron McDonald Treasurer
The first major Rally that Cootamundra members went to was the 1967 Albury “Boorigal” Rally – a
rally of a week’s duration with daily runs. 160 cars and motorbikes attended. That’s a major rally. It
was recorded that this rally was immensely enjoyed by the three Cootamundra participants:
Col Collingridge (on a 1912 TRIUMPH motorcycle), Ken Watson (on a 1911 RUDGE)
and John Simpfendorfer took his 1928 AUSTIN 16 sedan.
John has shown us slides of this Albury Rally at our Films Nights.
Hope he has some more pictures for future Films Nights.
The Antique Car Club of Albury-Wodonga held this rally in their first year of operation!
The Antique Car Club of Albury-Wodonga is still holding this rally annually in October.
The Antique Car Club of Albury-Wodonga has volunteered to host the 2017 Bush Council Rally.
The Antique Car Club of Albury-Wodonga will be celebrating their 50th
Anniversary in 2017.
As part of the 50th
Anniversary celebrations A.C.C.A-W will be holding a five day rally in and around
Albury. And combine it with the Bush Council Annual Rally. And it will combine it with the Display
at Albury for National Motoring Heritage Day. This big rally will be held 18 -- 22 May, 2017.
Therefore THE ALBURY RALLY is a rally to keep in mind for 2017.
In the past, the Bush Council Rally was held at Easter and called the EASTER RALLY.
For 2017 the rally will not be held at Easter . . . . which is a Good Thing . . . because . . . . .
Some of our old cars hold up the Easter traffic . . . a bit.
My T FORD (@ 50kms/hr) and my VW (@ 80kms/hr) have certainly caused some Road Rage in the
last few Easters – holding up traffic – especially where the roads have more and new [no overtaking]
double lines.
Times have changed in motoring. It is now harder to mix with ordinary traffic.
Yours in antique motoring,
JOHN COLLINS

Sunday 21 June 2015 ---- A SUNDAY DRIVE TO JUNEE LICORICE FACTORY
This was an event for the Riverina VW Club.
A couple of cars from Cootamundra Club took advantage of a Sunday Drive and joined in.
Lunch was enjoyed at the Licorice Factory. This is a good eatery.
Also at the Licorice Factory on the day were other car clubs:
The Porsche Car Club --- had a dozen cars there, most from Canberra.
And another dozen cars from --- Narrandera Car Club . . . added to the interest.
And in the shed next to the Licorice Factory is a collection of old cars! And this was Open on the day.
It was a delight to explore through this shed and discover some interesting vehicles.
So many old cars at the Licorice Factory!
27 & 28 JUNE -- WEEKEND AWAY OUT WEST For this Event, Ted Strachan contacted John Hart of Lake Cargelligo to organize a tour of John’s town.
So we had a weekend trip from Cootamundra to LAKE CARGELLIGO and a splendid tour of this
Far West town .
THE CARS which DEPARTED FROM COOTAMUNDRA :
1972 GALANT of Ted and Joan Strachan Peter and Sue McCarthy’s 1960 SIMCA
1972 RENAULT 12 of Paul and Janet Ballard Barry and Lynn Gavin’s 1977 TORANA
1976 DOLOMITE of Tim and Ting O’Keeffe My 1958 VOLKSWAGEN
Hugh and Karen McMinn’s 1950 ARMSTRONG SIDDELEY
Ken and Betsy Harrison’s HUMBER, towing their caravan.
And in a 1962 HOLDEN – Murray, Tammy and Jessie and Michaela Hambrook (from Bungendore). In 3 moderns: John and Freda Hambrook. John and Maureen Simpfendorfer. And Kevin White towed his caravan. SATURDAY:
Following Ted’s Plan, the above people departed Cootamundra at 8 a.m. on a very cold day.
Fog was encountered the 73 miles to West Wyalong. Thick fog! My car was dry when I left home and
immediately became sopping wet from fog – needing the windscreen wipers all the way on the long trip
to Ungarie.
On the way we stopped at West Wyalong for Morning Tea in a park, in the fog.
At West Wyalong we were joined by 10 cars from Young Heritage Motor Club.
Sure was foggy! . . . .. but we enjoyed morning tea in the park.
Page 9
After Morning Tea we drove on to Lake Cargelligo.
We found the scenic park beside the lake.
At the lake we were joined by 10 cars from Griffith Historic Motor Club.
And the sun at last evaporated the fog.
So we had Lunch by the lake and watched hundreds of pelicans fishing.
For the Saturday afternoon we drove in a 30 car convoy taking in the sights around the lake.
And then checked out the history of Lake Cargelligo at a Museum.
The Motels and Caravan Park were splendidly sprinkled with old cars Saturday night.
I was lucky. We got a Motel Room with a gorgeous view of the lake.
Dinner was had at the local Golf Club.
SUNDAY:
The 3 car clubs met - and checked out the local Men’s Shed.
Then we drove out to visit The Draught- Horse Farm.
This farm supplies wagons for movies, re-enactments and parades.
We were given a tour of the horseworks and chaff-making and historic relics and came away amazed
and appreciative that Steven & Jan Johnson preserve horses as they were worked in the past.
After the Horse Farm inspection it was – have lunch in Lake Cargelligo town.
And hit the road to West Wyalong and on to Barmedman.
In Barmedman’s old Service Station, Harry Grayland has a collection of 14 Classic cars. The cars were
on display for us. (Harry is a member of Temora Antique Motor Club.)
Homeward bound - through Temora - dried our cars out nicely by the time we reached home. JOHN COLLINS P.S.
Our visit was featured in the Lake Cargelligo Newspaper. John Hart thanked the clubs for visiting his town.
First stop was Morning Tea in the
fog at West Wyalong park.

The trouble with old cars, is that they are prone
to breaking down. Smoke was streaming behind
this one. Col Harmer and Barry Rose decide to fix
