Excellent laser-cutting capabilities.
Narrowest tolerances.
Universal application.
The steel grades of the alform® laser series are thermomechanically or normalized hot-rolled steelswith excellent cold formability which are especially suitable for laser cutting. Minimum yield strengthsof 180 up to 420 MPa are offered.
The alform® laser series of voestalpine StahlGmbH is characterized by
uniform surface and interior condition due tothe extremely high degree of purity with re-spect to non-metallic inclusionsminimum residual stress of the sheets to prevent distortions to the greatest possible extent during cuttingoptimum laser cutting capabilities in respect ofcutting speed and cut quality due to limitedphosphorus and sulphur contents as well as amaximum silicon content of 0.03 %
limited flatness tolerances for the flattest possible blanksbest surface quality due to a thin, homogeneousscale layer as a result of thermomechanical ornormalized rolling
The use of alform® laser steels has proven success-ful in fields requiring extremely precise cuts, burr-free cut edges and parts free of distortion.
Cutting capabilitiesas a result of additional special inspections with respect to surface, dimension tolerances and flatnessas a result of highest cutting speeds and optimum shape of thecut edges due to the optimized chemical compositionas a result of the high degree of purity with respect to non-metallic inclusions (leads to vertical cut edges without undercuts)as a result of the homogeneous and uniform layer of secondaryscale that ensures troublefree operation of laser cutting units andfine drag lines of small depth of roughnessas a result of optimized production conditions from the hot stripmill to cutting to size and straightening on the shearing lines(guaranteed flatness deviations 3 mm per meter)as a result of limited thickness tolerances (50 % of EN 10051, Tables 3 and 4)
Excellent weldabilitydue to a large range of welding parametersdue to cold cracking resistance without preheatingdue to optimum mechanical-technological properties equivalent to the base material of theweldsdue to excellent formability of the weldsdue to a higher tempering resistance than heat-treatable steelsdue to a low tendency to excessive hardening
Uniform mechanical propertiesthe high constancy of the mechanical proper-ties of alform® laser steels guarantees trouble-free processing even during automatic opera-tion
The advantages
Specifications
alform® laser steels are supplied both in normali-zed and thermomechanically rolled condition. In the event that further processing requires a heat treatment exceeding 580 °C, this would lead to a decrease in the minimumyield strength for thermomechanically rolledsteels (M series).
In such a case normalized rolled steels (N series)could be offered, but only up to a minimum yieldstrength of 380 MPa (However, flame straight-ening up to 800 °C is also possible for thermo-mechanically rolled steels).
Different dimen-
sions upon
request only.
Depending on
their application,
alform® laser steels
can be supplied
with pickled or un-
pickled surface.
Upon request, pick-
led alform® laser cut
sheets can also be
supplied with oiled
surface. For pickled
strip there is the ad-
ditional possibility to
apply a passivation
layer.
