Andermatt is embedded in the wonderful Gotthard Region of Switzerland and for many years has impressed visitors from all over the world. The small village is famous for its ski and health resorts and has recently been further enriched by the development of the 5-Star-Superior-Hotel The Chedi. Hotel The Chedi, made of granite walls, parquet from oak, furniture from dark walnut, constantly exudes 5-Star-Luxury. The hotel opened its doors at the end of 2013 and since then has been host to national and international prominence. The architecture of the building combines traditional and modern themes in a sophisticated manner. The character of the alpine scenery reflects the design of the construction allowing The Chedi Andermatt to melt into its surroundings in a harmonic way. Matching the design were the requirements for the video surveillance system: it must optically match the architecture and the design, discrete and calm, with the guests not feeling as though they were being observed. In addition, the surveillance system should contain a powerful digital image recording system and software which includes displaying multiple live screens and map views.

High-performance and design-oriented solution from PanasonicPanasonic has a rich history in the security business, developing some of the most ground-breaking technology over the past half century. Panasonic has the capability to offer complete security solutions for any business, regardless of sector, thanks to an ever-improving selection of products. In the case of The Chedi Andermatt, Panasonic prevailed with the small and stylish Dome Camera WV-SF335 as well as with the box camera WV-SP306. Both camera models feature HD quality with a megapixel resolution of 1280x960 pixel and the high frame rate up to 30 fps.

Panasonic`s advanced MOS 1.3 Megapixel Sensor not only enables a variable compression in specific areas (VIQS, Zones) with a higher resolution in certain areas at reduced data speed, it also enables Wide Dynamic Range and ABS (Adaptive Black Stretch) technology which delivers wider dynamic range compared with conventional cameras, displays differences between pale white and dark black in real-time and enables a high contrast range. Multiple H.264 (High profile) streams and JPEG streams ensure simultaneous real time monitoring and high resolution recording by "UniPhier®", Panasonic's proprietary System LSI platform. Both models are suited for external and internal installation. A further advantage is the high sensitivity with simple Day/Night function and the high light sensitivity of 0.3 lx (Color), 0.2 lx (B/W) at F1.3 (Wide). The function Face Wide Dynamic Range technology ensures clear face image, H.264 and MPEG-4 eligible for the system integration. Panasonic could install more than 70 cameras in the internal and external areas at the Chedi Andermatt. Besides the design, Panasonic delivered a brilliant performance in the quality of pictures, the reliability and the longevity of the cameras. The 72 cameras record onto 2 Panasonic servers WJ-ND400 and the pictures can be looked at simultaneously via Client Management Software. The Management-Software i-Pro WV-ASM200, which was used at The Chedi is suitable to connect IP-cameras in different places. The Software offers a virtual matrix for IP-Surveillance system, whereby through the operation of several monitors, incoming alarm signals from distant locations can be handled through a common network. Given the fact that live pictures are directly available from the cameras or through a recorder, the network can be designed very flexibly. Through the individual configuration of the monitors, the simultaneous usage of live (1-/4-/9-/16-x divided screen format), Play (single/quadruple) and the location plan (combined with WV-ASE201E ) on one screen is possible.

Simple HandlingThrough the installation with IP cameras and Network-Server including Software, the handling becomes very simple. The security officer is able to keep the hotel in view with very little effort and can rely on the high-quality of Panasonic.

Positive Outcome despite ChallengesThe Chedi is a first-class hotel and one of the best in Europe. With the video surveillance system from Panasonic, the security is also first-class. For the security officers at The Chedi Andermatt, the solution from Panasonic is excellent. The system stability has been running without any problems since the beginning of its operation. Peter Wanner, project leader video surveillance at Telcom is still impressed with the luxury building: "The size of The Chedi is overwhelming. At the beginning, we got lost several times on the construction side. It was a huge labyrinth with mile-long hallways." A further challenge according to the project leader was the time management: "for a project in this magnitude, it's not surprising that delays have arisen. We could only begin with the security installation with 6 months deferral. Nevertheless, we achieved and finished the installation before the opening of the hotel." That guests won't notice the cameras is not worth worrying about, as a discrete placement with discrete cameras belongs to first-class security.
