Page 2: HOTOSHOP TUTORIAL; · 2019. 3. 25. · navigate to the squirrel.jpg file (on Hume’s website) and click to open. Select File > Save As from the main menu and save a copy of the image

03 Next, from the main menu choose Select > Inverse.

Now instead of the squirrel being selected, the space around the squirrel is selected. In the main menu select Filter > Brush Strokes > Sumi-e. Enter the following settings in the pop-up menu: 11 Stroke Width, 12 for Stroke Pressure and 36 for Contrast and the press Ok. Press “Ctrl-D” to de-select.

04 Next, from the main menu select Filter > Distort > Liquify.

In the tools option on the right hand side, set the brush size to 60 and the pressure to 50. On the left hand side of the screen, select the Bloat tool. Position the cursor so that it is over the squirrel’s eye and click down with the mouse. Continue to press down with the mouse until the eyeball stops growing.

05 Next, we need to add colour to the squirrel’s eye.

At the bottom of the toolbar double click on the Foreground Colour. In the pop-up dialogue box enter these values: Red = 201, Green = 255 and Blue = 157.

06 Select the Pencil tool. Set the brush size to 45px in diameter. Centre the cursor over the squirrel’s eye and click once. Change the brush size again, this time set the diameter to 35px. Switch black to become the Foreground colour by clicking on the double-headed arrow next to the colour swatches in the tool bar.

07 Change the brush size to 23px, switch the colour to green.

Centre the cursor over the eyeball and click once. Lastly, change the brush size to 15px, switch the colour to black. Centre the cursor over the eyeball and click once.

08 Select the Blur tool. Change the brush size to 80. Centre it over the eyeball and click. Hold the mouse button down for a few seconds to apply the effect, This softens the green and black circles.

09 Last part - adding text.

Select the Text tool from the toolbar. Choose the font Comic Sans MS from the drop down menu. Set the font size to 75. Click on the image and type “Go Nuts!”

Page 4: HOTOSHOP TUTORIAL; · 2019. 3. 25. · navigate to the squirrel.jpg file (on Hume’s website) and click to open. Select File > Save As from the main menu and save a copy of the image

10 Select your text. In the text modifier menu, click on the Create Warped Text button. Select Arc as the style. Select horizontal and bend to - 35%. Click okay. Then you must click on the check-mark at the top of the screen to commit any current edits. Then select the move tool to place the text at the bottom of your canvas.

11 Now we are going to add the illusion of 3D to the text. Click on the Layer Styles tab from the

Effects palette. Make sure the drop down menu is set to Bevels. Choose the layer style Simple Sharp Image > select the move tool > and then hit the apply button.

Okay...you’re DONE!

Save the file to your student G:/Drive, in your

Graphic Assignments folder.

Now find an image you like. Make sure it is at least 500 pixels and play with the selections tools, filters and effects.

Save this new image in your student G:/Drive in your Graphic’s folder.
