Measuring Engagement • The district was tasked with creating a system that would measure the engagement of

students and the community, including parents. • Involvement, or engagement, looks different at elementary than it does at high school.

• Climate Surveys: Parent and Student Climate Surveys are an efficient way to measure the respondent’s perception of how well the district is doing in the different categories.

• Opportunities: Teachers and schools regularly offer students the opportunity to engage through before and after school clubs, events, special programs, etc. Because these opportunities are structured in a variety of different ways from school to school and from elementary to secondary schools, the committee chose to count the opportunities instead of attempting to capture the numbers of students participating.

• Enrollment: Where it was appropriate, the committee chose to consider the percent of eligible students enrolled in subjects beyond required minimums, believing that choice demonstrates a high level of engagement.
