Hotel Accommodations - Provided by the Marriott Houston Westchase Hotel (800) 452-
5110. Ask for the American Bonsai Society special rate of $95 per night (Offer ends March 25,
2019).
Registration - (Early Registration: Before February 1, 2019 - ABS/LSBF Members $265, non-
members $275; Registration (After January 31, 2019 - $295) – Includes meals, access to all
seminars, vendor and exhibit areas, demos, raffles, silent and live auctions, and silent observation
of workshops. Workshop participation requires additional fees.
Accompanying Guest Registration ($150) – Includes meals, access to the following areas when accompanied by a full registrant:
vendor and exhibit areas, demos, auctions, and silent observation of seminars and workshops.
Single-Day Registration ($125) – Includes access to seminars, exhibits, vendor areas and silent observation of workshops. Single-day
registrants cannot pre-register for workshops but are encouraged sign up for any available workshops in-person at the convention. Meals
not included.
Saturday Night Banquet ($70) – Intended to allow guests/spouses to attend the banquet.
Visitor Pass (Free) – Includes access to the exhibit and vending areas only. Meals not included.
Meals included with registration include Friday night supper, Saturday lunch, and Saturday Awards Banquet. Single-Day Registration and
Visitor Pass meals are not included.
Exhibition Entries – Any full registrant may submit a tree for the juried exhibit and there is no limit to the number of trees that may
be entered. A $25 entrance fee will be charged for any tree accepted for the display. At least one photo of the tree is required.
Exhibition Awards - ABS will be awarding the prestigious John Naka award along with a check for $500 for the best American-grown tree
styled by the exhibitor as well as the ABS Medallion. The Lone Star Bonsai Federation Excellence in Bonsai recognitions will go to: Best in
Show -- $500, Best Conifer -- $150, Best Deciduous - $150, Best Shohin Tree -- $150, Best Tropical -- $150, Best Broadleaf Evergreen -- $150,
Best Texas Native Bonsai -- $150, and Best Shohin Display -- $150. Certificates also will be awarded for Best Viewing Stone and Best
Kusamono. Visit the ABS website, www.absbonsai.org for an entry form and instructions. Awards will be presented at the Saturday night
banquet.
Raffles – Raffle tickets can be purchased by full and single-day registrants. The raffles will be held just before lunch and dinner each
day.
Silent Auction – The silent auction will be held in the Grand Pavilion Foyer on Saturday night. Bidding on silent auction items is res-
tricted to full registrants.
Live Auction – A live auction of trees and merchandise will take place after dinner at the Saturday Awards Banquet. Bidding on live
auction items is restricted to full registrants.
Demonstrations – Headline artists will conduct demonstrations after dinner on Friday evening in the Grand Pavilion Foyer. Each of
the demonstration trees will either be included in a raffle or the live auction.
Workshops – Register early as many workshops will fill quickly. Registering on-line will help ensure your spot in workshops. For paper
registrations, acceptance into the workshops will be determined by the date payment is received.
Joshua Roth Contest – The Joshua Roth/ABS New Talent Contest recognizes and promotes new bonsai talent in North America.
Participants will work on designing similar trees Thursday afternoon and evening, April 11th. The winner receives $1000 for use in study with
a bonsai professional, and a check for $500. The runner up receives $500 in credit toward bonsai tools and supplies from the Joshua Roth
catalog and a check for $500. Entries and additional information can be obtained on the ABS website, www.absbonsai.org. Winners will
be announced on Saturday during the Awards Banquet.
Shipping – Boxing and shipping of purchases will be available on Sunday from 9 am to 12 pm in Briarpark 1&2. Shipping
cost will be determined by the shipping company.
