WHAT IS AGILE

Let’s start with: What is Agile?

• Maybe you heard about Deloitte

• According to Wikipedia it is one of the "Big Four" accounting organizations and the largest professional services network in the world by revenue and number of professionals.

• In 2018, the network earned a record $43.2 billion USD in aggregate revenues.


WHAT IS AGILE


In English, “agile” means "ability to move quickly and easily" and also

"thinking quickly and in an intelligent way".

• Increases Productivity - focus on high valued, high priority features and

the most efficient way to produce them

• Improves Morale – more individual autonomy, fosters trust, self

• Improved Quality – QA is done faster, more often, ensuring continuous

improvement at every stage

issues identified and tackled earlier

• Only what matters

• On time

• On budget (time and money)

• And give it time and patience to happen…

Will you be happier?



People usually ask:

• How can we motivate our workers, our teams?

• How can we change the organization's culture?

• How can we change the mindset of managers?

• How can we get teams to take responsibility?

• How can we improve teamwork and collaboration?

• How can we get managers to trust their teams?

• How can we develop people's competencies?

• How can we be agile when the organization is not?

All these questions, except the last one, are asking, “How can we change other people?”



Change yourself, not others!

• When everyone is trying to manipulate everyone else, should we be surprised that problems never go away and that new ones keep popping up?

• When people don't focus on improving themselves, is it any wonder they're always complaining about each other?

“Don’t worry, be happy!”


HOW CAN WE BE AGILE? WHAT MORE?

• If you work with Scrum at work, try to do the same at home (plan your sprints, do your retrospectives)

• Try to adapt the same routine/iteration/cycle in both of your worlds to make it ONE

• It’s easier to follow the same rules the whole day, rather than changing in between

• It will make your day feel as a whole, making it a holistic way of handling your tasks

Step 4 – Be Agile everywhere!

Give it time and patience!

SUMMARY

• Think outside the box about Agile (rethink the Agile manifesto)

• Start your routine / cycle / habit, look back and improve it (even change it)

• Adapt your method to match work and home

• Get a "holistic" view of life (work + personal = life)

• Look back on how you work from this new perspective

• Be happy while you do anything you do

• Enjoy life, enjoy work, enjoy being Agile!

• He recently received his first Michelin star in his own restaurant ‘212’ in Amsterdam.

• ‘We take a dish and try to improve this again and again, instead of starting some new every time’



Jonathan Hausmann, MD

• ‘I realized that Agile methodology has the potential to revolutionize patient care, as it has software development’

• When I see a new patient in clinic with rheumatoid arthritis, for example, I create a quick outline of how I envision her treatment

• At every clinic visit (aka “sprint”), I obtain feedback from my patient about how she is doing, and adjust the treatment plan accordingly

• Because of the uncertainty inherent to the practice of medicine, these short feedback loops help me better care for and respond to my patient’s needs.
