You can make a copy of these pages togive to those ministry leaders you want to work with. This will help them betterunderstand how you can assist in their ministry.

You Are Wired With A PurposeWhyamIhere?Whatisthemeaningofmylife?HowcanIfindsignificance?Thesequestionsare

basictoourlifeexperience.Knowingwhatministrieswewerecreatedforhelpsanswerthesequestions.

It

is

the

The

Bible

that

God

us

knowsuspersonally.JesusillustratedthisconceptwhenHeusedthemetaphoroftheshepherdandhis

sheep.Hesaidthattheshepherdcalledeachsheepbyname.IsaiahwritesaboutthisintheOld

Testament.Theprophetwrites:

BeforeIwasborntheLORDcalledme;frommybirthhehasmadementionof myname.

Bring...everyonewhoiscalledbymyname,whomIcreatedformyglory,whomIformedandmade.

Canamotherforget thebabyatherbreastandhavenocompassionon the child shehasborne?

Thoughshemayforget,Iwillnotforgetyou!See,Ihaveengravedyouonthepalmsofmyhands.(Isaiah

Morespecifically,theBibleteachesthatGodhascreatedyouandIwithapurpose.Thispurposeis

seenourministryinlifewhichwasperfectlyexemplifiedinthelifeandteachingsofJesusChrist.In

Matthew22:36thePhariseesaskedJesus,whatwasthegreatestcommandment?Anotherwaytosay

thisis,WhatisitthatGodwantsustodothemost?Jesusansweredthemsaying:

LovetheLordGodwithallyourheartandwithallyoursoulandwithallyourmind.Thisisthe

firstandgreatestcommandment.Thesecondislikeit:Loveyourneighborasyourself.

Jesusnotonlysaidthesewords,butweknowfromreadingtheNewTestamentthatJesuslived

thesewords.Evenbetter,GodhasmadeitpossibleforyouandItolivethemtoo!Thisisthemiracleof

Christianity;the

fact

that

God

can

take

you

and

I,who

so

often

separate

ourselves

from

Him,

wanting

nothingtodowithHiscontrolinourlife,andcanbringusintoawonderfulrelationshipwithHimself.

ThatiswhatJesusisallabout.HislifewasanexampleofourministryandHisdeathandresurrection

wasthebridgebringingusandGodtogether.WhenwerealizeourneedforGodandcometoHimin

repentanceandacceptHimasourSaviorwebeganourrelationshipwithChrist.Thisisthefirststepin

livingoutministry.Jesuscalledit,beingbornagain.Thisiswhenwe acceptthenewlifethatHehas

forusandHisinvitationtojoinHiminHisworkinthisworld.

ThequestionishowdoweliveoutthisministrythatJesustalkedabout?HowdoweloveGod

withallourheart,soulandmindandloveourneighborasourself?WedoitbybeingawareofHis

presenceinourlife,theloveHehasforus,andthepowerthatHewantstouseinourlife.Thismoves

ourheart,soulandmindintoaction.WethenloveourneighborbyservingGodwitheverythingwe

have

and

in

everything

we

do.

We

have

defined

ministry

as

Ministryistolivewiththeawarenessofthepresence,loveandpoweroftherisenChrist;usingour

person,giftsandskillstoserveHimineverythingwedo.

To Live With The Awareness Of The Presence, Love andPower of the Risen Christ

ThefirststageinourministryinthislifeistocomeintotheawarenessthatwearelivingforGod.

NotjustagodbutthelivingGod.Whatadifference.Wearenotlivingoutsomereligiousexperience

but

are

entered

into

a

relationship

with

the

risen

Christ.

So

often

we

treat

Jesus

like

some

historic

figure.

WemeetonSundaystorememberHisdeath,wesingHispraisesforwhatHehasdoneandthenwego

aboutourweekasifHispresentrisennesshasnobearingonourlives.Averyimportantpartofour

ministryinthisworldistohaveavitalrelationshipwiththerisenChristthatinfluenceseveryaspectof

ourlife.ThismeanstoliveourlifeintherealizationthatJesusisalive.Thisrealizationshouldhavea

transformingpowernotonlyinourownpsychebutintheveryresultsoftheministryweareon.Heis

aliveandthesamepowerthatroseJesusfromthedeadisavailableforourministry.Livingeveryhour

ofeverydayintheconsciousawarenessoftheloveofJesusgiveshopeandpeace.ThisrisenJesus

motivates,inspires,givescourageandleadsusinthewayweshouldgo.

Using Our Person, Gifts and Skills

Using

our

person,

gifts

and

skills

for

God

is

a

deliberate

choice.

It

is

the

result

of

the

consideration

of:

Allthatweare,livingforallthatHeis,inlightofallthatneedstobedone.

Weaskourselves,Whatismypart?Whatismyroleinthisdramaoflife?Wefindtheanswer

whenwecometothepointwherewebelievethatGodhasgivenusauniquecombinationof

personality,interests,spiritualgiftsandskillsthatwecanuseforHim.

Therearesomanyfactorsthatmakeuswhoweare.Notonlythevariablesbutthestrength,sizeor

amountofeachofthevariablesmakesatremendousdifferenceintheoutcomeofwhoweare.Change

oneelementandtheendresultwouldbeskewed.Herearesomeofthemanycomponentsthatmakeus

whoweare:

Personal makeup

Genes,personality,temperament,chemistry,intelligence,birthorder,physicalabilities/

limitations,aptitudes,andourspiritualgiftsthatGodgivesus

Environment

Parentage,siblings,relatives,socialstatus,neighborhood,school,clubs,church,civicgroups,

sports,meaningfulortragiceventsinyourlife

Belief system

Attitudes,beliefs,motivations,yearnings,ambitions,presuppositionsandperceptions

Therearemanymorecomponentsandmanyvariationsofeachofthem.Allofthesefactorsare

importanttowhoweare.Whenyoutakethevariables,putthemindifferentamountsandintensities,youcanendupwithanendlesslistofcombinations.Thesecombinationsresultinourgiftedness.

Ihavealwaysbeeninterestedinoursimilarityanduniquenessashumanbeings.Perhapsitis

becauseIamanidenticaltwin.Ihavebeencomparedwithmybrother,Rod,allmylife.This

preoccupationwithbeingatwinmademekeenlyawareofsimilaritiesanddifferencesinindividuals.

AscloseandidenticalasmytwinRodandIare,assimilarasourbackgroundsare,wearestillvery

differentanduniqueindividuals.Wearegiftedindifferentways.Ifindgreatcomfortinthefactthat

duringallofmyfiftysomeyearsGodhasneveronceconfusedmewithmytwinbrother.Idonotlive

outRodsministryinlifenordoesheliveoutmine.Godispersonaltobothofus.Hecreatedusas

similarasanytwopeoplecouldeverbe,andyet,Ifulfillmyeverydayministrythroughmyown

giftednessdifferentlythanRod.

Aspartofourcallandourministryinlife,Godexpectsustomaketheworldabetterplacethrough

ourperson,giftsandskills.PaulwroteitthiswaytotheChristiansatEphesus:

WeareHisworkmanship!Whenanartisansitsatalumpofclay,heorshedecideswhattheywant

tomakeanditbecomesthatverythingrightbeforetheireyes.Howmuchmoreourgreatandloving

GodstoppedandthoughtaboutyouandIandthenpurposelycreatedusforspecificgoodworks.Not

massedproduced,weareHisworkmanship!WeareauniqueoneofakindambassadorforGodtouse

inthisworld.Aswerespondtolifewithouruniquepersonage,aswehoneinonourministry

preferencesandbecomemoreproficientwiththeskills,abilitiesandresourcesthatGodhasgivenus,

wewillbelivingoutouruniqueministriesinthislifeforGod.

What Can I Do?Soyouwanttobeinvolvedinministrybutyouarenotsurewhattodoorwheretoserve?Thisisaverycommonproblem.Youarenotalone.Mostpeoplevolunteerforministriesorcharitableworkwith

noideaoftheoptionsofservice.Theysimplygoforwhatevermaybeavailable.Likewisetheperson

whoisthecontactfortheministryororganizationhasnoideaofwhoyouareorwheretobestutilize

yourskill,gifts,experienceofpassion.

simplybecausetheylacktheskillsormanpowertodoanythingabouttheirsituation.Somany non
