How can you EARN money?
You must have a JOB!
What JOBS do you know?
(note to the teacher)• Here I introduce some TPR actions for each of the professions.
This works for my fourth graders and non-advanced fifth but sixth graders are too cool for TPR. For doctor you pound your heart, for astronaut you fly, for cook you stir-fry, for President you salute and look important and mock-shake people’s hands. ETC
• I say random jobs and they do the TPR. Then I do the TPR and they say the name of the jobs. And mix it up. You can TPR the job descriptions later too (boring, fun, etc)
• For older kids hopefully their language level is higher so you can replace this with getting more substantial responses to questions. Other than ‘I like hamburgers’ for example
• Pictionary works well, esp. at the end to extend it if necessary. 20 Questions would probably be good.
• I don’t make them do anything for Takin’ Care of Business, just let them jam out on air guitars in the last two minutes of class

Takin’ Care of Business
You get up every morningFrom your alarm clock's warningTake the 8:15 into the cityThere's a whistle up aboveAnd people pushin', people shovin'And the girls who try to look pretty
And if your train's on timeYou can get to work by nineAnd start your slaving job to get your payIf you ever get annoyedLook at me I'm self-employedI love to work at nothing all day
And I'll be...
Taking care of business every dayTaking care of business every wayI've been taking care of business, it's all mineTaking care of business and working overtimeWork out!
If it were easy as fishin'You could be a musicianIf you could make sounds loud or mellowGet a second-hand guitarChances are you'll go farIf you get in with the right bunch of fellows
People see you having fun
Just a-lying in the sun
Tell them that you like it this way
It's the work that we avoid
And we're all self-employed
We love to work at nothing all day
And we be...
