How did you attract/address your audience?

•Metaphor – ‘Behind Bars’. I used a metaphor to signify the upbringing of my main band Rare Sounds. This attracts the audience as it is catchy and reflects the iconic front cover image.•Alliteration – ‘Music Mix-up’s’. I used alliteration to catch the audiences attention. The alliteration is also colloquial which is useful as the audience can use it as a means of relating to.•Exclamation marks – I used exclamation marks on the mast head as it made the information look important , this is useful as again it draws audiences attention as it makes the information on the masthead stand out.•Command Words – On the front cover I used command words to directly address the audience. This was used to make the audience feel involved and as a means of grabbing their attention.•Repetition – In my contents page I repeated the word ‘exclusive’. This was to reinforce the audience and to remind them of the magazine. The word exclusive is also quite a bold thus likely to stick into the audiences mind.

The use of colour was one of the main ways in which I used to attract and address audience. The main colours which pop up thorough out our used to create a brand identity. Looking at my front cover it is evident that I used three main

colours which were Red, Yellow and White. From what I gathered from my research neutral colours which were unisex stood out amongst the younger generation thus I used this piece of research and incorporated a similar colour scheme into my magazine . As the image/ background of my front page was quite dark the red, yellow and white typography colours strongly contrasted the background which made the typography stand out amongst the rest of the page. This was ideal as it made the magazine itself stand out and because of the bright colours used it caught the audiences eye. The title of the magazine was in a red font as the background behind it was one of the darkest sections of the page, it gave off an even larger contrast than the rest of the smaller typography. This was useful as it was the first thing the audience saw when they saw the magazine. Therefore the colour red was used to attract the audiences attention.

My contents page also incorporates the same colour theme as my front cover. The background on the contents page is black therefore the red, yellow and white typography contrasts with the black and makes the typography on the page stand out. This appeals to the audience as it stands out therefore the audience are more likely to flick through the rest of the magazine and buy it . The red bars on the contents page which separate the contents also makes the typography stand out as it breaks up all the information into smaller chunks which make it easier for the audience to look at.As a whole the colour scheme used in my music magazine is used so that they attract and draw the readers in. If I used colours such as dark blue or purple they would not complement with the background making the overall magazine dull therefore less likely to attract the audience.

The images used below were images I used to attract the audience. Each of these images had a feature that the audience could relate to thus attracting them to the magazine. For example audience could relate to the clothes worn by the models in the picture, relate to their hairstyles, try to imitate the poses so that they could fit in. In my front page I used one main image. This was because I wanted to create a bold impact with the main image so that would be the main focus of the magazine. The contents page however had many images. This was because people are normally drawn to images rather than words so they are likely to look at the images before the copy. I also included things the audience could relate to, again things like clothes, hairstyles and poses so that it appealed to the audience and addressed them directly.

One of the things I learnt from doing my preliminary task was that it was extremely important to pay attention to the mise- en- scene and the poses of the models in the images. This is so they send the right type of message out to the specific target audience. For example if a model was posing with her hands in her hair looking like she wanted to rip her hair out it attracts audiences that are perhaps into rock as that notion is associated with people who like rock. As my genre for my magazine was R&B I told my models to look seductive and alluring as these types of notions are associated with R&B music. Below are some examples of the poses the models did to portray the image they were trying to give off. Although I did not use some of these images in my actual magazine they support what I am saying above about the way in which types of pose give off different messages.

The image above shows the models as incredibly feminine and alluring.

In this image the models pose suggests that they are sophisticated. The pose used here shows

unity and is very naturalistic which connotes togetherness and happiness.

The pose used in this image is again natural and connotes unity and a feeling of being chilled out
