How were you able to do the breathing exercise?

The human organ systemRESPIRATORY SYSTEM

If you are going to dedicate a song to your respiratory system, what would it be and why?

How do I breathe without you?

Play the Song How Do I Live by LeAnn Rimes

What causes the air to go in and out of your body?

How does it happen?

Is there any other parts not mentioned?

Among the parts you have mentioned, which part does air do not pass through?

What do you think is its purpose?

Lets Investigate!The BREATHING MECHANISM

Activity: The Bottled balloonObjectives:Explain how the lungs work.Describe how the movement of the diaphragm helps the air go in and out of the lungs.

Activity: The Bottled balloonMaterials: 1 big plastic bottle cut in half3 balloons (1 big, 2 small)1 -2 sturdy straw 1 pair of scissors5 rubber bands/tape/clay

Activity: The Bottled balloonProcedure:Using a pair of scissors, cut the bottom out of the 2-liter plastic bottle. Stick the two straws through the two holes of the bottlePlace one balloon on the end of each straw, and secure them with rubber bands/tape, as shown in the figure in your activity sheet.

Activity: The Bottled balloonProcedure:Stick the balloon ends of the straws through the bottle opening and seal the mouth of the bottle with use of a tape or clay.Stretch out the larger balloon and place it over the open bottom of the bottle. Secure it as tightly as possible. Refer to the diagram in your activity sheet.

Activity: The Bottled balloonProcedure:Pull the larger balloon down; that is, away from the bottle, in order to blow up the two small balloons. Push the larger balloon towards the bottle in order to let the air out of the two small balloons.Write down 2-3 observations.

Activity: The Bottled balloonProcedure:Label the diagram of the lung model by writing the represented organ in the model. Answer the Guide Questions.

Guide questionsQ1. What does each part of the constructed lung model represent?Q2. What happens as you pull down the balloon at the bottom of the model?Q3. What happens as you push up the balloon?Q4. How does the movement of the diaphragm cause the air to go in and out of the lungs?Q5. What might happen if you prick the balloon? clog the ballon inside?

How about this?Obstruct some parts of the lung model. Reflect on how it affects the breathing mechanism.DO THE NEXT ACTIVITY!

ACtiVITY: POSTER MAKINGCreate a poster on the importance of a functional respiratory system.

rubric

You will be required to upload your poster/meme/gif in your social media accounts and reflect on the reactions of your peers in the digital world. Write a reflection about it in your journal/ntbk. You may consider answering the following questions. How were you able to show the importance of a working/functional respiratory? How were you able to promote a healthy lifestyle among your peers?Do you think your work will be an effective tool in making your peers be conscious about their lifestyle? Why? How will you elevate the call against unhealthy lifestyle among the youth?Extended activity

Extended activityOn your peers reaction to your post. How did your peers react to your post? How did you react or feel about your peers thoughts regarding your post? What are some of the positive feedbacks you get from your peers? What are the negative feedbacks you get from your peers?Do you think you made an impact to other peoples lives with your post? Describe how were you able to affect them through your post

QUIZ TIME

quizInhalingOccurs when the diaphragm contractsOccurs when the diaphragm relaxesIs the exchange of gas between blood cells and the lungsIs when oxygen in the air is drawn into the body and carbon dioxide is released from the body

quiz2. Ventilation or breathing involves which organs? The larynx, pharynx, and tracheaThe lungs, larynx, pharynx, and tracheaThe heart and lungs, larynx, pharynx, and tracheaThe heart, blood and lungs, larynx, pharynx, and trachea

quiz3. Breathing is controlled by the DiaphragmRespiratory centers in the brainLevel of carbon dioxide in the bloodAll three of the above

quiz4. How does the movement of the diaphragm cause air to go in and out of the lungs?Movement of the diaphragm affects the air pressure inside the chestBy either decreasing or increasing the space of the chest cavity allowing air to go in and out of the lungsBoth a and bNeither a nor b

quiz5. When you hold your breath, which of the following first leads to the urge to breathe?falling CO2falling O2rising CO2rising pH of the blood

quizWrite I if the statement refers to inhalation or E if it is exhalation. _____6. The ribs expand._____7. The diaphragm contracts or flattens_____8. Air rich in O2 enters the lungs from the atmosphere._____9. The diaphragm relaxes_____10. Air rich in CO2 exits the lungs
