How far dothese agree?

On 13 November the Germans sent13,000 of their best soldiers to forcea way through the strong Britishdefences. They came on at a steadypace and despite their casualties

they penetrated the British line atseveral points. A British counter-attack followed which cleared thewoods. There was deadly hand-to-hand combat after which most of theGerman troops lay dead or wounded.

An official history of WWI describes the

First Battle of Ypres

On all sides storied could be heard of terrible slaughter inflicted on the enemy. A gunner told me one Battalionof the Prussians had broken through our line and

marched straight towards our guns. Coming within onehundred yards of the battery, they had literally beenblown back from the very cannon’s mouth, leaving 500

o their dead in ghastly heaps to mark the limit of their bold advance.

From Mons to Ypres with General French , written in 1917 by

Frederic Coleman, and officer in the BEF.

Agrees, Disagrees, Reliable? Judge

1. Where does Source A support thestatement?

2. Where does Source A not support the

statement?3. How might Source A be reliable?

4. Why might Source A not be reliable?

5. How much does Source A support thisstatement overall? Two sentences maximum for each of these. That’s

as little as five sentences in the paragraph.

Do this twice more for Sources B and C and then

conclude.
