How Does Learning Happen Pedagogy
Artifact – Art craft activity
Reflective Narrative: This creative art craft activity is
conducted for preschoolers. It
demonstrates the Four Foundations
of How Does Learning Happen:
Belonging, Well-Being,
Engagement, and Expression. The
activity is developmentally
appropriate for children in terms of
interest based and zone of proximal
development (ZPD). Preschoolers
love finger painting. They are able to
manipulate scissors and express
their ideas via painting. A sense of
connectedness to others (Belonging)
can be developed as this is a group
activity. Children are offered
materials and opportunities to make contribution. Such activities help children to refine
their physical and mental health and wellness such as fine-motor skills and self-
regulation skills (Well-being). Children are involved and focused when they are
exploring the materials with their natural curiosity and exuberance, they are fully
engaged (Engagement). Through this type of play and inquiry, children develop skills
such as problem solving, creative thinking, and innovating, which are essential for
learning and success in school and beyond. Children are provided with opportunities to
express their feelings and tell the meaning of their works when participating in this
activity (Expression).
