What are the social groups in my work?

• In my coursework there is one, main social group which is shown and this groups is teenagers.

• The teenage characters in my coursework movie were written/ designed to be those teenagers who are interested in the Sci-fi genre (Including Books, movies, TV shows etc.) and are also interested in “Vlogging” Which is adding to a blog through the medium of video, often the videos are of the uploaders themselves. This is linked in with the camera-style and narrative of my coursework.

How are teenagers represented in my movie?

• I think that in my coursework the representation of “geeky” teenager is quite realistic and gives a solid feeling of verisimilitude, the interests of the characters such as “Vlogging” are all evidently true in reality so there is no defining line between what is real and what isn’t, in terms of characters.

• The stereotypes of teenagers depends on the individual social groups of them. The characters in my movies narrative were written to be in a similar social group to mine (Being a “Movie-Geek” and having an interest in Sci-fi movies above others) so it would be easier to create and define who they were and to create a stereotypical yet un-rude set of characters.

• The teenagers are also shown to be quite adventurous, curious about things that are strange, and somewhat serious about what they are wanting to do, showing they are passionate about things that interest them.

How teenagers are represented in my movie? (Continued)

• My characters do follow particular stereotypical features which are present in the people of similar social groups in reality, this “Fleshes them out” and makes them more believable and easier to understand. (As the target audience is in similar social groups to the characters, which is some of the attraction to the movie. Similar marketing techniques were used in the recent movie “Chronicle” who targets teenagers when they are also the age range of the main characters)
