How I made my CD CoversEMILY LANGDALE

Front Cover: Picture• This is my original photo that I

took at the park. • As shown on my mood board, I

wanted my band members to be jumping up to show the fun side of the album. This photo was the best one I took to convey this theme.

• My band members are wearing similar clothing to show they are united as a band, but I will highlight the different shoe colours to show their individuality.

Front Cover: Photoshop• First I decided to edit my photo

in Photoshop. • I made the background black

and white because they are common colours used in alternative rock albums.

• I used the polygonal lasso tool on the left side to crop the shoes out of the picture.

• Then I copied the shoes into 3 different layers. I did this in order to show some colour on the album.

Front Cover: InDesign• Next I inserted my photo into

InDesign.• I added the band name as well

as the album name. I used each text style because they were bold. The band name is on the top middle of the album in order to show it’s significant.

• The album name ‘FUN’ is in capital letters, emphasising what the album is all about.

• I also cropped the picture and moved into a better position. I did this to show that the female band member is the lead singer, therefore in the middle of the front cover.

Tray card: Picture• This is my original photo for

my tray card. • I decided to use this photo

because it’s located on the swings and it’s from a unique angle. In addition, I liked the settings around the photo such as the trees and sky.

• Also, it shows the female band member at the front of the picture. This further reinforces that she is the lead singer of the band.

Tray card: Photoshop• For my tray-card I used

Photoshop first in order to make it black and white.

• Then instead of focusing on the shoes, I focused on the colour of the swings bar which was red. Red is a common colour used within this genre’s CDs.

• I copied each section of the swing bar using the polygonal lasso tool.

• Then I copied each of the sections into different layers.

Tray card: InDesign• Finally, I added my edited

photo into InDesign. I added the band and album names to the spine.

• I decided on the colour yellow for the song titles as well as, the spine because it’s a bright colour and is associated with happiness.

• I highlighted the red because it’s a common colour used in this genre.

• I put the song titles above the band because I didn’t want the band covered.

• I included a bar code and a record label. I used Interscope as my record label because it’s produced alternative rock albums before. I also included the copyright of the album which is found on all albums.

• Furthermore, I included Interscope’s logo, the website of my band as well as their Twitter. This shows the band as very modern and appealing to a young audience who use Twitter.
