Jet Ski Facts: ● Jet skis are gas-powered machines that travel through the water like a

boat .● Not only are they used for having fun, but people also race them in

competitions .● Clayton Jacobson crafted a simple design that would let people ski across

water without the need to use a larger boat. ● They didn’t come into spotlight until Kawasaki decided to mass produce

them.● Most jet skis now allow you to sit down and even have room for multiple

passengers, this was not the case with the original models where you had to stand.

Jet Ski Facts: ● There are two types of jet skis. A solo meant for one person and you have

to stand. The sport jet ski which has a seat and can have extended seat up to 3 people.

Kayaks

Kayak Facts: ● Kaya means “hunter boat” as kayaks were originally invented by Inuit,

Yup’lk, and the Aleut for hunting. ● Kayaking received the honor of Olympic status when it became an official

Olympic sport.● Kleppers are two man kayaks that have been used in special missions of

insertion or extraction by the US Marines, British Commandos and the Canadian Special Operations Forces during war.

Surfboards

Surfboard Facts: ● The surfboard has been around for thousands of years.● Peruvians of South America claim their fishermen use surfboards over

4,000 years ago.● Hawaiians have been using surfboards for over 1,000 years.● It was originally just a plank of wood and the shape was whatever the

person wanted, they had no fins and could be up to 15 feet long.● In 1937 a teenager cut a V shape on the rear of his board and the modern

surfboard was created.● Tom Blake became the first to surf in Malibu Beach.

Surfboard Facts: ● Some say surfing is not a profession but in 2009 Kelly Slater earned $3

million● Hang ten is used when a surfer places all ten of his toes at the front of the

surfboard while riding a wave ● The largest recorded wave was generated by a tsunami back in the Lituya

Bay, Alaska in 1958 it was over 1,700 feet tall.

Water Ski Facts: ● The world record for the most water skiers towed by a single boat is 145. ● Water skiing was invented in 1922.● Water skiing is an olympic sport. ● Water skiing requires upper and lower body strength, balance and

endurance. ● It was invented in 1922 by Ralph Samuelson in America, who used two

boards and a clothes line attached to a boat. ● There are several different types of water skiing (barefoot, slalom (using

one ski), and tournament skiing.

Water Ski Facts: ● In Tasmania, Australia, a world record was set in 2012, for the most skiers,

145, behind a single boat.● Water skiing was one of two demonstration sports at the 1972 Summer

Olympic in Munich. It was the only time that the sport was demonstrated at any Olympic Games.
