How Long Have I Got, Doc?

The Dying Matters Coalition aims to boost GPs' confidence in initiating and undertaking end of life conversations. The DVD evolved from a series of GP communications pilots held in 2010/11. A total of 113 GPs took part in workshops which boosted their confidence and led to a change in behaviour. When conversations were initiated by the GP, 9 out of 10 patients chose to continue them.

DVD features:

The DVD features a number of GP-patient conversations based on real-life scenarios, as well as offering advice from a number of practising GPs.

Professor Mayur Lakhani, a practising GP and Chair of the Dying Matters Coalition and the National Council for Palliative Care, describes the DVD as

“a very powerful tool for change”.

He said “I would urge every general practitioner to use this DVD. It’s an important part of your professional development; it’s a core skill of general practice.”
