Recently I was reading some illustrations on theinternet about giving and I came about thisstory:

“JOHN D. ROCKEFELLER GIVING STORY: JohnD. Rockefeller is an example of the beneWts of giving. He achieved what our culture calls success. Rockefellerhad amassed more wealth than he could ever spend.By the time Rockefeller was WYy-three his life was awreck. Troughout his business career he said, “I neverplaced my head upon the pillow at night without re-minding myself that my success might only be tempo-rary.” He was the richest man in the world and yet hewas miserable in every sense of the word. He was sickphysically, mentally, and emotionally. Tere was nohumor, balance, or joy in his life. Ten a transforma-tion occurred. He determined to become a giver ratherthan an accumulator. He began to give his millionsaway. He founded the Rockefeller Foundation, dedi-cated to Wghting disease and ignorance around theworld. He lived to be ninety-eight years old and was ahappy man in those years because of his new and revi-talized deWnition of success.”HZp://www.kluth.org/church/illustrations.htmI’d like us to see the reasons why some people give of-ferings in the church.

Here are some reasons:People love God and want to obey Him: In John 14:15,Luke 6:38, It is a good practice to give out of love forGod and willingness to obey His instructions.People want to honor God: Proverbs 3:9-10 We

should all strive to honor God with what He has givenus.People understand the treasure principle: which sayswe should lay up our treasure in heaven – where mothcannot destroy it – Mat. 6:19-20. Go ahead, becomeheaven-conscious too and give without hesitation.

People want to grow in their faith walk with Jesus: 2Cor. 8:7 says, “Since you excel in so many ways--in yourfaith, your giYed speakers, your knowledge, your en-thusiasm, and your love from us--I want you to excelalso in this gracious act of giving.”

Now let’s go back to see how giving may affect your life.

OfferingPeter offered his boat for Jesus to use for preaching –Luke 5:1-10Reward:He moved from struggle to satisfaction. Tis can hap-pen to you also.

Dear Preacher And Pastor

Franklin K. Kyei

Ifeel led by the Spirit of God, as a fellow shepherdand preacher, to bring to the fore some issues ofgreat importance to the work of Ministry. These

are issues that have a great bearing on our worthi-ness for divine approval, the health and divine focusof the flock placed in our care, and our eventual suc-cess in Ministry.

The issues in point pertain to our sense of responsi-bility and accountability, our approach to Ministry, and our regard for spiritual substance in Ministry. We have been called by the Lord Jesus to work inHis vineyard. We are, therefore, responsible and ac-countable to Him in the absolute sense for our con-duct and approach to Ministry (1Thessalonians2:4). We should always bear in mind that we are notin the pulpit to seek our own glory, but that of theMaster who put us there; and that we are also ac-countable to Him for every word we have issued inHis name and would ever say in His name (1Cor-intians 1:26-31). We have been called to lift Himhigh for Him to draw all men to Himself and notourselves (John 12:32; 1 Corinthians 2:1-2).

Some of us have gotten into the habit of promotingourselves at the expense of the Lord’s honor andglory; forgetting that He is the one who does thesaving, the sustaining, and all the various ministra-tions of grace some of us are so quick to take thecredit for. Yes, the Church needs to acknowledgethe hand of God on our lives, but not at the expenseof what should be their obsession with Jesus. As pro-claimed by the Apostle Paul, we have whatever weclaim to have in earthen vessels, that the excellencyof the power may be of God. We are, therefore, never sufficient of ourselves as to be able to do anything by ourselves. Our sufficiency, according toApostle, is of God. None of us can save or heal or de-liver anybody. It is, therefore, needful for some us towake up to the truth that it is just a privilege afforded

us by the Lord, and stop deifying ourselves in theHouse of God (2Corinthians 4:7; 3:5).

The people we serve have been saved to celebratethe Lord Jesus on a daily basis and not us. We can-not be a spiritual covering for anybody, not evenourselves. We have been called to take care of theflock that belongs to Jesus. He is the spiritual cover-ing for them as well as us; and we need to get theflock of God to focus on Jesus and not the pulpit.According to Apostle Paul in I Corinthians 2:4, thebest our eloquence and human ingenuities thatseem to be adored by many in the pulpit today cando outside the lordship of the Holy Spirit, is makepeople build their faith on us, and not in God. It canonly birth carnality and not spirituality.

The Ministry of the Word of God is not just aboutsemantics or linguistics; whether Greek or Hebrew;otherwise the nation of Greece and the Jews wouldall be born-again evangelical Christians by now. Ifthe two disciples on the Emmaus Road (who mighthave read the Old Testament bible in the originallanguage) could not understand the relevant mean-ings of the scriptures as they pertained to the work ofredemption, until Jesus expounded it to them, andOPENED THEIR UNDERSTANDING TO RE-CEIVE THE DEEPER MEANINGS thereof; thenwe should understand that there is more to the Min-istry of the Word of God than just familiarity withthe semantics thereof (Luke 24:13-32).

The ministry of the Word calls for revelation, theburden of the word, words within/without, divineutterance and anointing. It is not by one’s might andpower; but by the manifestation of the Spirit and Hispower, so that our hearers become linked andhooked to divinity and not humanity (1 Corinthi-ans 2:1-5). To be continued.

Iknow many individuals, and you probably do,too, who have great giYs, talents, and dreams, and who had great promise for their lives, but

who destroyed their futures by violating genuine au-thority.

Te prisons are Wlled with potentially great leaderswho are conWned for life within their walls becausethey violated the authority of society, which has es-tablished laws for order and peace. Te drug housesare Wlled with talented people who will never fulWltheir potential because they are violating the au-thority of their bodies by abusing them with harm-ful, illegal substances.

Many people currently have great ideas, dreams, andplans for their lives, but they are on a collision coursewith destruction because they are—or are contem-plating—violating the privilege of authority the Cre-ator has given them by seeking their own authorityfor selWsh purposes. Why do people end up ruiningtheir lives in this way? Tey have leY—or have neverknown—the place of authority where they truly be-long.

For example, the Bible states, “And the angels whodid not keep their positions of authority but aban-doned their own home—these he has kept in dark-ness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment onthe great Day” (Jude 6). Tis scripture gives us in-sight into a sobering consequence of abandoned au-thority. He wrote about how God gave authority to

certain angels, who subsequently discarded it. Godhad given positions of authority to these angels; au-thority for various assignments, but they leY theseassignments when they rebelled against His ultimateauthority as Creator.

Jude went on to talk about “godless men” who act inthe same way as these angels and who “reject au-thority” (Jude 4 & 8). When humanity disobeyedGod’s word, it fell from its place of authority, and lifeon earth was fundamentally altered. Our true“home” as human beings is the place where we werecreated to live out our personal authority. Your do-main of authority is not a literal building but a placeof being, a position. If we violate the principle of au-thority, we automatically hinder our potential andlife’s effectiveness.

What is your dream for yourself, your family, busi-ness, or nation? Many people don’t know how tolive out their dreams or Wnd their true place in theworld because they don’t understand or know howto put into practice principles of authority. You mayhave some idea of your personal authority but arenot fulWlling the vast potential still inside you. Or,you may know you are living well below your po-tential and purpose in life.

Authority is an inherent part of the design of hu-manity by God. We must understand the establish-ment of authority as an essential principle for ourlives.

I remember a time when Dave and I needed a miracleevery month to pay our bills. I had quit my job so I couldspend more time preparing for full-time ministry, whichcut our income in half.

Each time I paid the bills, I would get upset because wedidn’t have enough money. It became a routine. I’d be sit-ting at the table in one room with the bills, checkbook andcalculator in front of me, while Dave was in the otherroom, playing with the kids, laughing and having fun.

It eventually led to a conversation like this…

Me: Every month we don’t have the money to pay ourbills.Dave: Yes, and every month God comes through.Me: Well, how is He gonna come through this month? Why don’t you do something?!Dave: What do you want me to do? Do you believe we’rein the will of God?Me: Yes, I believe we’re in the will of God.Dave: Do you believe God told you to quit your job?Me: Yes, I believe God told me to quit my job.Dave: Well, has God been taking care of us every month?Me: Yes, yes… (exasperated sigh)Dave: Okay, Joyce, we’re in the will of God, we’re givers,God promises to meet our needs… What else do youwant me to do?

What I wanted was for him to count the money with meand get upset too. But what I needed to do was spend timewith God, rather than the checkbook.

Quality Time Is the Key

Spending quality time with God is so important. Andthere are many promises in the Bible about what happenswhen we do this. For example, Psalm 16:11 says that inGod’s presence, there is fullness of joy. And Nehemiah8:10 tells us that God’s joy is our strength.

Te devil wants to steal our joy. He’s not really aYer our

stuff, but he’ll go for the stuff to get our joy, like he did withme when I was upset about our Wnances. If he can get ourjoy, he knows we won’t be strong in the Lord. And we’lllose our focus on God.

We need to focus on God and our relationship with Him.

In fact, we’ve got to desperately require Him! When wedo, we realize that He’s given us authority over the enemy.Tis means you don’t have to let the devil run your life –you don’t have to believe his lies. You can resist him andbind him as you pray in faith for God’s will to be done.

Now, we can’t stop the devil from coming against us, butwe can overcome him each time – if we exercise the au-thority of Jesus and decide not to put up with him. It’s true.If you really believe God hears your prayers and you knowwhat the Bible says, the devil can’t control your life!

Te Power of Faith and a Good AZitude

I want you to get the revelation that God has given you –a born-again Christian – authority over your enemy. Andone way you can use it is by keeping a good aZitude whenhard times come.

Romans 8:28 is a scripture that’s quoted a lot. It says thatwhen we are partnering with God, “all things work to-gether and are [WZing into a plan] for good to and forthose who love God and are called according to [His] de-sign and purpose.”

Tis verse is a promise to us that no maZer what happensin our lives, if we will keep praying, keep loving God, andcontinue in the purpose He has for us, good things willcome.

I want to encourage you to live by faith, not fear. Keep yourfocus on God, trusting that He’ll do whatever needs to bedone in His way and His time. And in the meantime, youcan enjoy the life He’s given you today.

The Simple (Yet Powerful) Results ofSpending Time with God

Iwas baZling fear and losing… All throughout theday, I could feel fear gripping my heart. I was bom-barded with the feeling of inevitable failure and de-

feat. It was almost physically painful. And relentless. Iteven affected my ability to pray. All I could say, all daylong, in desperate repetition was, “Lord, help me!” Tiswent on for days.

Ten, one morning, the Lord woke me up, and as soonas I opened my eyes, I felt that same fear come over me.Te Lord gently said, “Let’s go to the dining roomtable.” I grabbed my bible and went. Once I sat down,“Go to Psalm 27.”

Verse 1: Te Lord is my light and my salvation; whomshall I fear? Tat Wrst verse, in and of itself, was like abreath of fresh air coming into a stale room. “Now, whoam I?” the Lord asked.

Te God I serve is Te Almighty God, the Creator ofthe earth and universe. Tere is none greater. He ownseverything, and is Lord over all. He is omnipotent, om-nipresent and omniscient. Tere is nothing that Hedoes not own, understand or rule. Tat is your God.When facing fear, always do a reality check Wrst. Re-member who your God is. Don’t trip. Understandwho your God is. He is not some small, weak, punygod. We serve the only wise and true God. We servethe Creator God, in whom there is no failure, no de-feat, no sickness, no fear, no loneliness, no confusion,no abuse, no lies and no “take-backs” .

Ps. 27:1 starts off with “Te Lord is my light…” Whatis light? It is that which allows you to see and keeps youfrom stumbling. It is guidance and direction. Lightgives hope to the trapped. When a person is trapped,he thinks there is no way out until he sees some light.

Ten he has hope…He knows that because there is

light, there must be a way out. So he follows the light toget to his freedom. Your God is your ticket to freedom. He is your light.

Tat Wrst verse goes on to say, “…and my salvation.”So, we know that God not only gives guidance and di-rection, but deliverance. He doesn’t just let you knowthat there is a way out, He is the way out. He is yourdeliverance, or your salvation. Tis means that Godgives us deliverance, prosperity, victory, and salvationfrom external evils, both in the physical and spiritualrealms. Tere is nothing that escapes it, not even fear. Psalm 27:1b goes on to say “Te Lord is the strength ofmy life.” In other words, I am not operating in and ofmy own strength. His resources are available to me.His power is available to me. His grace is available tome. His favor is available to me. His strength is avail-able to me, even when I am weak and being viciously at-tacked by fear. He is the strength of my life. Tat is whyI don’t have to give up. Tat is why I don’t have to lis-ten to the reasoning of defeat, telling me that I’m des-tined to lose, so I might as well give up now. Seeing asI have the God who knows no limits, constraints, weak-ness, lack or failure on my side, the reasoning of defeatis simply illogical. It is senseless. I am winning. Period.Hallelujah!!!!

Since we are those who are strengthened by God Him-self, we should spend time meditating on His greatness,His goodness, His protection, and His deliverance, al-lowing our fears to be washed away in the conWdenceof who He is and our praise! Fear has no power in theface of the Almighty God. Te next time you are facedwith fear, remember that He is your light, salvation andstrength, and move forward in praise and His power,in Jesus’ name.

which says, “Give, and it will be given to you. Goodmeasure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you useit will be measured back to you.”Reward:God visited and Solomon gave wisdom and riches. Ifyou offer bountifully to God, He will visit you. 2 Cor.9:6 says, “Now this I say, he who sows sparingly willalso reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully willalso reap bountifully.

As you can see, there are various things one can offerunto the Lord, but you will notice that all those offer-

ings were of high and best quality. Terefore, wheneveryou come to the Lord with your offering, ensure that itis your best, whether it is money, time, prayer or othermaterials. Move away from the $1 group and let GodliY you up. You will increase in Jesus name. Now that you’ve seen the rewards of offering untoGod, I believe your mindset will change concerningthis issue. May the Lord continue to teach us His ways.

Finally I say that offering to God is continuous, not justmoney or material things but even our lives. Paul ad-vises in Romans 12:1-2 to offer our lives as living sac-riWce unto God.

Te condition Autism is a developmental disorderthat appears in the Wrst 3 years of life, and affects thebrain's normal development of social and commu-nication skills.

Demographics:Autism is a physical condition linked to abnormal-ity of biology and chemistry in the brain. Te exactcauses of these abnormalities remain unknown. Autism affects boys more oYen than girls. Genetic factors are important to Autism. Chromo-somal abnormalities and other nervous system(neurological) issues are also more common in fam-ilies with autism.

Other suggested causes include:• Diet• Digestive tract changes• Mercury poisoning• Te body's inability to properly use vitamins

and minerals• Vaccine sensitivity

AUTISM AND VACCINESIt is very dangerous for parents not to vaccinate theirchildren due to Autism risk. Some people believethat the small amount of mercury (calledthimerosal) that is a common preservative in mul-tidose vaccines causes autism or ADHD. However, studies have NOT shown this risk to be true.Te American Academy of Pediatrics, and Te In-stitute of Medicine (IOM) agree that no vaccine orcomponent of any vaccine is responsible for thenumber of children who are currently being diag-nosed with autism. Tey conclude that the beneWts

of vaccines outweigh the risks.SymptomsMost parents of autistic children suspect that some-thing is wrong by the time the child is 18 months oldand seek help by the time the child is age 2. Childrenwith autism typically have difficulties in:

• Pretend play• Social interactions• Verbal and nonverbal communication

Some children with autism appear normal beforeage 1 or 2 and then suddenly "regress" and lose lan-guage or social skills they had previously gained.Tis is called the regressive type of autism.

People with autism may:• Be overly sensitive in sight, hearing, touch, smell, or taste (for example, they may refuse towear "itchy" clothes and become distressed ifthey are forced to wear the clothes)• Have unusual distress when routines are changed

• Perform repeated body movements• Show unusual aZachments to objects

Communication problems may include:• Cannot start or maintain a social

conversation• Communicates with gestures instead

of words• Develops language slowly or not at all• Does not adjust gaze to look at objects thatothers are looking at• Repeats words or memorized passages, suchas commercials

Social interaction:• Does not make friends• Does not play interactive games• Is withdrawn• May not respond to eye contact or smiles, ormay avoid eye contact• May treat others as if they are objects• Prefers to spend time alone, rather than withothers• Shows a lack of empathy

Response to sensory information:• Does not startle at loud noises• Has heightened or low senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell, or taste• May Wnd normal noises painful and holdhands over ears• May withdraw from physical contact becauseit is overstimulating or overwhelming• Rubs surfaces, mouths or licks objectsPlay:• Doesn't imitate the actions of others• Prefers solitary or ritualistic play• Shows liZle pretend or imaginative playBehaviors:• "Acts up" with intense tantrums• Gets stuck on a single topic or task

(perseveration)• Has a short aZention span• Has very narrow interests• Is overactive or very passive• Shows aggression to others or self• Uses repetitive body movements

Signs and testsAll children should have routine developmentalexams done by their Pediatrician

• Gesturing (pointing, waving bye-bye) by 12months• Saying single words by 16 months• Saying two-word spontaneous phrases by 24months (not just echoing)• Losing any language or social skills at any age

Tese children might receive a hearing evaluation,

blood lead test, and screening test for autism. An evaluation of autism will oYen include a com-plete physical and nervous system (neurologic) ex-amination.

TreatmentMost programs will build on the interests of the

child in a highly structured schedule of constructiveactivities.Treatment is most successful when it is geared to-ward the child's particular needs. An experiencedspecialist or team should design the program for theindividual child. A variety of therapies are available, including:

• Applied behavior analysis (ABA)• Medications• Occupational therapy• Physical therapy• Speech-language therapy

APPLIED BEHAVIO3L ANALYSIS(ABA)Tis program is for younger children with an autismspectrum disorder. It can be effective in some cases.ABA uses a one-on-one teaching approach that re-inforces the practice of various skills. Te goal is toget the child close to normal developmental func-tioning.Medicines are oYen used to treat behavior or emo-tional problems that people with autism may have, including:

• Aggression• Anxiety• AZention problems• Extreme compulsions that the child

cannot stop• Hyperactivity• Impulsiveness• Irritability

Risperidone is approved to treat children ages 5 - 16,anti -depressants, divalproex sodium and othermood stabilizers, and stimulants asmethylphenidate. Tere is no medicine that treatsthe underlying problem of autism.Remember the Lord is our healer….

As individuals, our most important depend-ency is upon God. But we must also recog-nize our need for human relationships—the

kind that help us relate on a social, emotional, andpractical level.

Tese relationships give us pleasure and fulWllment, and they include friends, extended family, and workassociates. Tere are two kinds of human relation-ships that meet this need:

1) Spouses. Te most important relationship onthis level is with a husband or wife. Whether we rec-ognize it our not, each of us longs for a relationshipof deep trust and mutual support. God designedmarriage to meet this need.

Tis mutualinterdepend-ence is veryimportant forthe develop-ment of inti-macy in amarriage. It re-

quires unity and cooperation, and also creates ahealthy environment for successful parenting.c

Of course, in every marriage, there are problems towork through and obstacles to overcome in the pur-suit deep trust and intimacy. But the beneWts areworth it. A strong, healthy marriage requires a hus-band and wife to both depend upon each other.

2) Friends. In addition to our deep relationshipswith our spouses, we also need a group of godly, sup-portive friends. Great friendships with fellow be-lievers—especially those who share our samevalues—support us in our faith and help us main-

tain the health of our marriages and families.

I've pastored and counseled people for many yearsconcerning their marriages and families, and havenoticed a common thread among those who con-stantly struggle and fail in family relationships.

Tey lack godly, supportive relationships aroundthem. Or, to put it another way, they are involved inunhealthy and unsupportive relationships.

"Do not be deceived: 'Evil company corrupts goodhabits'" (1 Cor. 15:33).

Sadly, I've seen the truth of that statement time andtime again in failed marriages. Unhealthy outside re-lationships can lead to unhealthy marriages. Whena husband and wife are unable to meet each others'need for healthy dependency within marriage, theirlives suffer.

We need those relationships as a couple and weneed them as a family. Te best place to build thesetypes of relationships is through a healthy, Bible-based church. Find one. Get involved. Don't hideout on the fringes, but become active and build re-lationships with healthy people.

Positive relationships keep us on the right trackwithin our marriages. Tese friends support us, en-courage us, and oYen model successful, godly rela-tionships for us.

While there are no perfect people, a person who iscommiZed to following God and living by the stan-dards of Scripture will have a healthy inXuence onus. As a family, as a couple, and as individuals, thoseare relationships we need. Blessings,
