How Pranav, a Dissatisfied Engineering Student, Used Mindler Career Guidance to Find His Perfect Fit with Management

Pranav Vashishth was a first year B.Tech student who recently realised that Engineering wasn't right for him. Taking up Science, and later Engineering, had been his parent’s recommendation. Soon after joining the program, he found he did not like the subjects. Within two semesters, Pranav developed an indifferent attitude towards his studies, stopped working on his assignments, and even failed a few examinations.

How We Helped

Since Pranav had already gone down a wrong career path, it was important to help him deal with the effects of his choices and find him a career he could be happy in. To do that, we followed a three-step process:

1. Identifying his interests, personality traits, and strengths to make fitting career recommendations.

2. Making him aware about the career options available to him now, and choosing the best one out of them.

3. Planning the best course of action to help him build a successful career in the chosen path.

Career Assessment - Understanding Pranav's Interests & Abilities

The career assessment evaluated his strengths and abilities to identify his match with different careers.

The assessment revealed Pranav would be good at tasks involving managing, leading, and interacting with people. He was also good at organizing tasks, understanding the practical aspects of a problem, and taking quick decisions.

The assessment recommended 5 careers for him:

Addressing Concerns and Exploring Options It was important to make Pranav open to the idea of exploring options, and to assure him that with the right steps he too can be back on the right track.

We compared and evaluated his suggested careers, including the opportunities they offer and the path required to pursue them. His results had displayed that he would be good at organizing and managing tasks and people. Pranav also divulged that back in school, he had founded a startup, which had earned substantial profits. We considered this a demonstration of Pranav's acumen and interest, and deemed Management to be a suitable choice for him.

SUCCESS STORY

Since his primary career options were mostly all fields he could pursue with a Management degree, we proposed the idea of pursuing a generic Management course (BBA) at the undergraduate level. This would allow him the flexibility to pursue a suitable specialization (such as marketing, advertising, sales, etc.) for his Master's degree or pursue Entrepreneurship later on.

Finalizing Choices: Selecting the Right Career, Course & College

We shared a comprehensive list of colleges he could target for a Bachelor's in Business Administration (BBA). After reading up and researching further about these programs, Pranav became enthused with the idea of pursuing Management. Pranav's parents, who were also a part of the entire process, agreed that a management degree seemed a good fit for him.

We, thus, took the final decision of pulling Pranav out from his engineering program.

Following this, we helped him finalise his target list of colleges, and shared the corresponding entrance exams, their patterns and suggested resources.

Outcome

Pranav went on to study BBA at Manipal University, Jaipur where he currently holds a top rank. He is also engaging in career-boosting efforts, including 2 successful internships, 2 projects and an inter-university management fest.

Pranav had enrolled in the Mindler Explore program for Career Selection & Planning.
