How RCARO can better serve for the Region

Mandate given to RCARO

• To increase RCA Awareness(Visibility)

• To promote RCA Partnerships(Viability)



RCARO Main Functions

• RCA Awareness Increasing Programmes (to RCA stakeholders including end-users, the general public including the policy makers)

• RCA Partnership Promoting Programmes(for RCA fund raising and participation in other organizations’ projects by RCA)

• RCA Nuclear Knowledge Preservation and Enhancement Programme



Progress of RCARO

• 1997 (MYA NRM) Need for RCA Regional Office in the region recommended

• 2000 (IND NRM) ROK offered to host RCARO when established in Korea

• 2001 (BGD NRM) Establishment of RCARO in Korea agreed

• 2002 (ROK NRM) Opening of RCARO in Korea for interim operation of 3 years to prepare necessary legal measures

• 2003. 9 RCA GCM adopted Resolution on Establishment of RCARO

Awareness Increasing Programme

• Better RCA Information Flow through RCARO Internet homepage (www.rcaro.org)

• To publish RCA Success Stories- Also, to produce RCA Information Kit

• Briefing Meetings with RCA related Groups• Program Promotion Meetings with RCA Project

Participants of Member States(2003 VIE, 2004 PAK planned)

• Support LCC Meetings(Support Technical Writing Workshop, RCA Project Planning Workshop, etc)



Partnership Promotion Program

• Cooperation with UNESCAP- Hazardous Waste Management Forum to identify future cooperation planned )

• Cooperation with KOICA- New program developed (Nuclear medicine internship program) and will further develop (Expert services, radiation safety training program, etc)

• Other Organizations- Initial contact with UNU for possible Joint Course



Nuclear Knowledge Preservation and

Enhancement Program• Post-doc. Fellowship Program

(13 Fellows for 2002 and 8 Fellows for 2003)

• Nuclear and Quantum Eng’ing MS Degree Course(1 for 2003 Spring Semester and 3 for 2003 Fall Semester)

• Nuclear Medicine Internship Training Program(Oct. 2003 at KIRAMS for 15-20 Participants, KOICA fund)

- Expert Missions to MSs- Transfer Mothballing Medical Equipment to MSs- Construct Networking of Nuclear-related Industry of MSs

Building Operational Basis

• Advisory Committee (AC)- 5 Members (AUL, BGD, CPR, IND, ROK and RCA Co-ordinator),

* RCA current Chair: Observer (2003 SRL)

• Internal and External Consultants to provide technical advice on RCARO matters

• Task Force to develop Strategies for RCA Fund Creation

• More Staffing for RCARO- Arrangement of IAEA Fellow Attachment - Encourage Cost-Free-Expert(s) from MSs- Temporary Recruitment of MSs Expert(s)
