Premier Division Preview
15th May 2013, 15:33
After picking up their first win last week YORK ACORN will be looking to make it back-to-back successes when they host INCE ROSE BRIDGE. Ince will be keen to bounce back from a defeat to Leigh Miners Rangers and with hooker Matthew Meaden in top form – he was this week named League Weekly Premier Division player of the month – York will have to be at their best. WIGAN STP PATRICKS are expected to have too much fire power for a struggling SKIRLAUGH. Despite the Hull side winning in their last league outing a trip to Clarence Park is always a tough assignment and this one will be extra difficult as the home side try and pick up a first league win for almost a month. Things don’t get much easier for MYTON WARRIORS as they head over to St Helens to play THATTO HEATH CRUSADERS. After being knocked out of the Chal-lenge Trophy in dramatic fashion last week Thatto are now free to concentrate on the league and will see a home game with the struggling Warriors as an ideal way to return to winning ways.
SIDDAL have the chance to avenge their narrow opening weekend defeat when they meet LEIGH MINERS RANGERS. EAST HULL and HULL DOCKERS meet in a derby clash that pits sixth against fifth. Just a point separates them in the league table so a closely fought game is expected at Rosmead Sports Centre. The hosts go into it on the back of two wins whilst Dockers will be looking to end a three-game losing run. The Halifax sides form has been inconsistent in recent weeks but they will be keen to make home advantage count against a Miners side that are at the wrong end of the table at present. WATH BROW HORNETS head to East Yorkshire for second time this season with WEST HULL their opponents this time. The champions are tucked in nicely behind the leading sides after the opening third of the campaign and a win against 10th placed Wests will keep them well placed. Saturday May 18 York Acorn v Ince Rose Bridge Wigan St Patricks v Skirlaugh Thatto Heath Crusaders v Myton Warriors East Hull v Hull Dockers Siddal v Leigh Miners Rangers West Hull v Wath Brow Hornets

Mick Lumby Chairman
Last weekend was a good one for both our open age sides with both sides providing excellent performances in their league games. Our first team especially, who have been close a few times, only come up short, in getting their first victory and points of the season. Last Saturday’s performance in the defeat of Hull Dockers was highly entertaining and was based on a lot of commitment and desire. Last Saturday`s performance must have been pleasing to Scott and his coaching staff as they showed that the Rugby they played can be of a high standard. Now hopefully their confidence will be high and they will try to take that momentum into today’s fixture as we give a warm welcome to our visitors from Ince Rose Bridge. Ince Rose, who are having a steady season themselves in the league having taken eight points from their seven games so far. With us having a home game next weekend too, it
is important that the squad tries and take the maximum points on offer to try and ease ourselves away from the foot of the table. Our A team also put in a terrific display last weekend in the defeat of Hunslet Warriors A and move up to second place in their re-spective league .The victory was manly down to the first half performance where the lads did not let the opposition get into their stride and ran out worthy winners in the end. Hard luck goes to our U16`s who just got beat by four points in the York U16’s Challenge Cup Final last Friday evening. An indifferent first half did not help their cause but the lads showed great spirit in the second half to just get edged out in the end. It`s been a busy weekend at the club with most of our junior sides taking part in their league campaign and encouraging to see all our sides putting in encouraging displays in either victory or defeat. Well done to all.

Future Prospects Mixed results for junior sides
Our Junior sides had a mixed bag this weekend. Our under 15's continuing their successful season with a 62-30 victory over local rivals Wetherby.
Our under 14's also entertained Wetherby, however despite a strong performance lost out 34 - 44. Our under 9's also playing at home were unlucky to lose out to Batley Boys 13 tries to 9
It is probably fair to say that the majority of our juniors are keen Leeds Rhinos fans. It was a great experience therefore for our under 9‘s to be asked to provide a guard of honour alongside the cheerleaders at Headingley for the recent game against Castleford. The boys were also invited to meet the players after the match to wrap up a superbly entertaining evening. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Rhinos for their hospitality.
The club is looking to set up a supporters group in association with the Rhinos. This association will give us more opportunities for the juniors to get to more games and even get the opportunity to train and play on the Headingly pitch before and during half time at Super League games.

Coaches Comments Welcome to today's game against Rose-bridge, It was relieving for everybody last week to get that first win, and it was also good to put right a disappointing display particularly in the second half over at The Willows earlier in the season . That performance has been in us for a while but we have just been falling short in one or two key area's which has meant the result's haven't quite gone for us, Today it's important to carry that form into
today's match which goes without saying is going to be tough, Ince have had some good results this year and nothing less than the commitment shown last week will be good enough. I am looking to build on last Saturday for the rest of season and to make us into a more than competitive team which we can be if we continue to play with the same desire which I am sure we can.

The Blue and Gold’s in Action York Acorn 35-16 Hull Dockers By Andy Grant | Sunday 12th May 2013 Acorn gain first league victory of the season Acorn turned on the style to record their first league victory of the season and avenge the heavy defeat earlier in the year at the hands of Hull Dockers. Acorn were full of endeavour from the first whistle and broke the deadlock on 6 minutes when a Tom Hill break up the right saw a superb off load to the supporting Ash Robson who galloped over from 40 yards, Antony Chilton goaled. The blue and gold’s stretched the lead on 14 minutes a speculative kick was re-gathered by Antony Chilton who fell over the line to score. With Acorn gathering momentum 4 minutes later Wingman Ryan Gallacher gathered a cross field kick to score well on a tight angle, Chilton added a good conversion. A Chilton penalty on 37 minutes gave Acorn a comfortable half time lead. Dockers started the second period strongly and some prolonged pressure paid off on 51 minutes when Richard Dougal scored off a short pass Andy Kay converted, Acorn bounced back 3 minutes later when a barnstorming Davey Burns run got him over for a good try, Chilton converting. Dockers kept plugging away and Dougal bagged his second as he carried 3 defenders over the line with him Kay added the conversion. The game breaker came on 64 minutes when Joe Budd receiving the
ball directly from the scrum side stepped his opposite number to go under the posts from 40 yards. Dockers still weren't done and winger Paul Fletcher crashed over in the corner on 74 minutes but Acorn had the final say Chilton added a field goal on 78 minutes and some determined Joe Porter running allowed him to score in the final moments with Chilton tagging on the conversion. In a confidence boosting performance Joe Porter took the man of the match award but Ash Robson Davey Burns and Nick Speck all had big games

York Acorn ARLC focus on winning games 11:27am Thursday 16th May 2013 in The Press; by Peter Martini,
YORK Acorn ARLC boss Scott Rhodes insists he is not looking at the National Conference League premier division table but rather focusing on winnable games ahead. The Blue and Gold’s finally got off the mark last week with a surprise win over Hull Dockers, but they remain at the foot of the ladder. They entertain mid-table Ince Rose Bridge this Saturday (2.30pm) and, although former York City Knights prop Davey Burns is again unavailable having played a starring role last week, Rhodes is optimistic his side can net consecutive wins, which – whether he looks at the table or not – could lift them up the standings. “In the next two weeks we’ve got Ince Rose Bridge and Myton and there are points there,” he said. “We’re not interested in league tables at the minute – we’re just taking each game as it comes.
“We’re at home – brilliant – and we can get some wins. We just have to apply ourselves as we did last week.” Rhodes said of their maiden victory of term: “We had a meeting last Thursday and went through some stuff, talking about we needed to apply ourselves better, and the play-ers did that. “I think Dockers turned up probably expecting to steamroller us like they did at their place, so it was pleasing to win. “We’ve proved we’ve got it in us and I’m sure if we can play like that every week we will pick up results.” Joining Burns on the absentee list is winger Aaron Thompson, who again showed up well last week despite having to switch to centre due to Adam Sellars’ injury. He has rugby union commitments. However, Tyrone Rowe should be available to take Burns’ place, while veteran Mike Embleton and Alan Willitts come into contention.

The Blue and Gold’s in Action York Acorn ARLC in joint second place after home victory By Acorn Admin | Wednesday 15th May
YORK ACORN ARLC ‘A’ moved into joint second place in the Yorkshire Men’s League premier division with a 26-10 home victory over Hunslet Warriors ‘A’. The Blue and Gold’s stormed into a 22-0 lead after only 21 minutes at Thanet Road and quickly made it 26-0 after the break, before Warriors added two second-half tries. Centre Karl Harton bagged the opening try on nine minutes and full-back Johnny Waldron doubled the dose three minutes later, with centre Callum Hannigan adding the extras. Harton crossed the whitewash again in the 18th minute and Hannigan goaled before racing 50 yards for an interception try on 21 minutes. Hannigan also converted that try for a 22-0 lead. Man of the match Daryl North complet-ed the Acorn scoring in the 46th minute before Hunslet staged a minor comeback. Substitute Sam Fletcher claimed the visitors’ opening try and centre Dave Norton added a second, with substitute Danny Wheatly converting. The match was held up for 30 minutes in the first half after Hunslet’s Nathan Robinson suffered a serious thigh injury. The victory was Acorn’s third from four matches.
