businesses. It's that powerful.

But what is positioning?

It’s easy to understand, but difficult to master. Simply put, positioning is how your prospects view you. It’s the category they put you in. It’s how they see you in relation to their needs.

Let me give you an example.

When you want something common and cheap, you probably think of going to a big store like Wal-Mart. But have you ever thought why? Positioning. That's why. They've positioned themselves in the market as a 'low-price leader', creating a niche especially for them. And it works.

And on the other end of the spectrum, there's Apple Computers. With innovation and technical

prowess behind their high-end, luxurious products, they can charge twice as much as their competitors, and dominate their market.

These two companies have opposite positioning strategies, but both have the same result. They lead their market.

But what does this all have to do with network marketing? Everything.

The problems you have experienced in your professional career are simply a result of you not using

the power of positioning correctly.

With positioning, you make people see you as the solution to their problem. The reason you're not dominating your market is not down to you or your company, your products or your services. All you need to do is master the art of market positioning, and make your clients come to you.

One of the first key things to understand is that network marketing is a people-based business. It starts and ends with relationships. In marketing this is understood, but is often applied and carried out incorrectly.

People are taught to spread themselves thin, to cover all bases. They are taught to hand out free

product samples, host home meetings and parties, and throw flyers on every car they see. They are encouraged to pass on potential clients and business clients to managers higher up the chain.

And that’s a big problem.

Think about it. If you try to do that with potential business partners, what does that make YOU look like? A leader? Someone worth following?

Hardly.

This type of system positions you at the bottom of the chain. It makes you do all the work, for someone else and their business. People don’t look to businesses for inspiration, they look to people. And if you've positioned yourself as a tool for someone else’s business, then this idea of positioning is working against you.

Those types of marketing techniques are designed to position the company and their leaders as the true experts. They come out on top, as they make employees and people down the chain do all the legwork for them, whilst taking the credit.

And it doesn't work for the individual. Within this system, you don't have a chance. But if you understand how to use and leverage positioning, then it turns the tables completely.

At that point, anything is possible.

I've lived in this system, worked for this system and struggled with the old way of doing things. I followed the system step-by-step, and all I came out with was negative earnings. It became tough to

stay motivated, and I was close to giving up.

But I didn't. I was absolutely dedicated to finding a way. I was going to figure out how to make it work.

And I did.

And by doing the exact opposite of everything I had been taught to do, I had learned the key to building upon my success. Talk about a strange feeling! I was doing everything I had been instructed

I made the decision that I was going to use positioning in three specific areas:

I didn’t want to try to build a business on the backs of my friends and family. And I wasn’t going to

It started small. 3 new people per day. Then 7. Then 50. I started reaching 300 a day. Then 903.

Within 18 months of joining, I had managed to shatter every recruitment record the company I was working for had. I had expanded my business to 86 countries at the same time, and developed a motivated team of my own that was 110% committed to success.

5 Sure-Fire Ways To Kill Your Positioning

1. Market To Your Friends And Family

Many network marketers are taught to leverage their 'warm market' for their business, contacts and potential customers that are immediately available and accessible to them. For most people, this usually comes down to friends and family members. This is a huge waste of time, and it ’s guaranteed

to cost you positioning and money.

Why?

Firstly, most of them are going to be very skeptical. Many will refuse to do business with you simply because they will look at your attempt to sell them a business or a product as trying to leverage a personal relationship for financial gain. Most people will feel used, and rightly so. It stinks of desperation, and is the antithesis of good positioning.

Even if you have great intentions with a fantastic product, this technique will still cost you positioning. And even if a few people do sign up, most of them will not. It's often the case that the product or service is not aimed or marketed at them, and are being targeted simply because of their relationship to you. At its worst, this kind of approach can hurt relationships between you and your family members, and will demotivate you as you face rejection from those you care about.

Ultimately. It isn't worth it. There are too many high-quality, motivated prospects that would love to do business with you. Leave your friends and family alone, and market yourself and your products and services to people that are already looking for it!

2. Lead With Greed

What I mean by this is leading your pitches with the benefits of starting a business, and only then going onto to explaining your product after. This is commonly taught, and it costs you huge positioning.

Think about it. You start a business from scratch, and you do it with a business that provides residual income. Network marketing is not a get-rich-quick industry. It’s a real business, and it takes a little time to see results.

So if you're just starting out, leading by telling your potential clients just how much money they will be making is detrimental, as you'll have to either lie, or tell them the time-scales involved, which can lead to a skeptical audience.

Once you're making a six-figure income, leading with the money making angle is a great tactic as you're obviously living proof of the fact. But until then, you can’t 'lead with greed' and expect your prospects to view you with any amount of credibility or positioning.

3. Do a 3-Way Calls With People Higher Up The Chain

Ever had this scenario before?

You have a hot prospect on the line, and you're encouraged to involve your managers for a 3 -way call

or meeting, to help close the deal with their expertise. They are rude, and your prospect can feel it. You listen in frustration as they repeat the same information that you've already explained earlier, and then cuts your prospect off with vague answers that don’t provide the content your prospect is looking for.

This happens frequently. Some managers are great about supporting 3-way calls and can handle the process really well, but it will still cost you positioning in the end.

Positioning is a perspective between you and your prospects. It ’s a perception, an opinion that they form of you during the marketing process. So if you interrupt your pitch to involve your managers,

how will your prospect view you?

As Someone who needs a crutch to grow their business. Certainly not a leader or someone to follow.

In order to be positioned as a leader, you have to earn it. You cannot depend on other people to do all the work for you. You will have to become the leader, because people like to follow leaders, not other followers. They want to work with people of confidence, people that know what they are doing. And by passing off potential clients and business to your managers, you'll never position yourself as a leader.

4. Buy 'Business Opportunity' Leads

In the industry, these are called 'biz-op' leads, and on the surface they are an easy, quick way to lose lots of hard-earned cash. But when you look further, they are a waste of time, and aren't good for business. Here's 3 reasons why:

They cost too much. These leads are sold from anywhere from $5 to $30 per lead. With these prices, it doesn't take long for the costs to add up, and soon you'll be spending a fortune on unnecessary and unhelpful leads that won't return on their investment. Realistically, you should never spend more than $0.15 - $0.25 for any lead.

They aren’t targeted enough. These people are interested in investing in a business, but they aren't proven to be interested in your specific industry. Let’s say you are marketing an anti- aging product. Can you imagine trying to talk an 18 year old male into becoming a distributor

They are recycled. These leads are usually sold over and over, which means that by the time you approach them, they have already heard from 3 or 4 other networkers. At that point, you

sound like just another 'salesman' trying to convince them that your business is best.

If you are spending money on biz-op leads, stop immediately. If you haven’t spent any money on them, then avoid them like the plague. They don't end well, and will cost you money and effort.

5. Throw Home Parties And Home Meetings

Ever tried to throw a home party and have nobody show up?

Or spend a lot of time getting product displays, refreshments and everything in place, only to have one or two people actually attend? And they only buy a product because they feel sorry for you?

In today's word, technology is everywhere. And although the human touch can't be beaten, smart people will use technology and its benefits to gain the maximum bonus and benefits, using smart ways to work to achieve more than their competition.

Technology is never going to replace the face-to-face interaction. These tools aren't designed to replace your natural selling ability, that process of closing deals and making moves with a client. These methods and tricks are given to help you see that you can extend and strengthen your business and strategies with simple, technological advantages.

There are three tools that you can use to maximize the power of positioning. I’ve found that by harnessing the power of technology, you can target the masses for what you are offering 24/7 and use the power of positioning for maximum effect.

So read on, and find the ways in which you can succeed where your competition doesn't...

1. The telephone

The telephone is one of the most powerful positioning tools ever created. If you know how to leverage it properly, it's incredibly effective, and will be your number one technology tool in making the big moves in your career.

When you couple the telephone with a targeted lead, you have a tremendous opportunity to build meaningful, profitable relationships very quickly.

There are several key advantages to using the phone correctly. Let’s look at a few of them.

Structure

Structure is a key tool in your marketing strategy. But you need to prepared, and ready in

order to fully utilize it to the fullest. Just picking up the phone and ‘winging it' is a bad idea.

For most, that means you'll need to write and rehearse a script with a specific offer for your prospect. To make it the best it can be, keep it short and sweet. People don't have

much time, and will already be against you to start with. If you ramble on, they won’t be interested. It'll also make sure you don't waste your time, as you'll quickly be able to sort those who are interested from those who are not.

Another great tip is not to use a phone call to try and direct a client to a website. They won’t go, and they won’t care. And your positioning that you've worked hard on building up will be compromised.

Instead, invite them to a teleconference call and engage them there. You want to be personable when you’re on the phone, making sure that the client feels like they're talking to a person, and not a robot. You also need to have a house style and direction, so that the customer gets a similar level of service throughout their interaction. That ’s why it’s critical you use structure.

Having structure also allows you to create a system that other employees can plug into for predictable results. If you have a tool with a proven response rate that you can hand them to use, they will be much more comfortable and successful than if you left them to flounder with home meetings and parties.

Time Leverage

One of the biggest advantages that the phone brings is the ability to have more of an

impact in less time. One of the most ridiculous misconceptions in this industry is that to grow a successful home business, you have to do it face-to-face.

This is nonsense.

I have people in my organizations from all over the world. I have meaningful business relationships with many of these people, and yet, I have not met many of them. There is no way I could have accomplished that kind of growth if I had restricted myself to face-to-face marketing. Many times it just isn't feasible, and doesn't actually make logistical sense.

In terms of time and practicality, the phone will win over transport any time. Hands down. The logistics and length of time it takes to drive all over town, buy people lunch, drop off samples, you’ll be lucky to meet around 5 or 6 potential partners in a day.

But with the phone, I can contact 10 times that number of people in the same amount of time, in the comfort of my office or home. I can be agile, quick to act and close down deals with the right clients.

That’s the power and the freedom that the telephone brings to your business.

However. There are tools that are even more powerful than the telephone. Like the Internet.

The Internet is the most powerful tool in the world for businesses. The amount of people you can reach using the net is only limited by your drive and ambition. Just like the telephone, the Internet frees you from the restriction of working with a local market. You can work nationally or internationally, and reach people all over the world that are

interested in what you have to offer.

There are two key factors to consider when it comes to succeeding with the internet. Your traffic, and your website. Let’s talk about traffic, as your website is obviously the place you store your information about your products and service.

The power of the internet is that it allows you to dramatically increase the number of people that are exposed to what you are marketing. Better still, with the right approach you can make sure that the people visiting your site are the captive audience for your product, meaning that only people that are actively looking for what you have engage

with your site.

There are 3 primary ways to drive traffic:

PPC, or 'paid traffic'

SEO, or 'organic traffic'

Social Media

First of all is PPC (pay-per-click), and it's one of the fastest and easiest ways to gain massive exposure and drive high quality visitors and prospects to your site. The key trick with PPC is to know how to buy your traffic wholesale. Paying full price on services like

Google AdWords or Yahoo Sponsored Search will prove to be costly, as these are aimed at people who don't know the ins and outs of the business and are looking for a quick fix. Shop smarter, and look further to find the best deal and the right company for your business.

The best part about PPC is that it's targeted. Only people who want what you have right

now are exposed to your ad, potential customers who are already in the market for your product. There are some very simple strategies you can use to master PPC, but you must know what you are doing. If you don't, it can prove to be costly and inefficient when you start buying generic traffic that won't help your business.

The second way to drive targeted traffic is with SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. This is powerful because it is free traffic, but you must have the technical skills to understand what a search engine is looking for when it ranks websites. Search engines have bots, or web crawlers, that go out and search and catalogue the internet. And if you know what these web crawlers are looking for, you can outdo your competition and get ranked at

and build a loyal fan base with your material. If you do this right, you can have 200, 300, or even 500 people per day reaching out to you, asking for more information about what you have. If you produce quality output, the rewards can be massive.

This type of traffic can be pre-sold, so that when they actually see your website or your

web message, they are ready and eager to work with you personally. You are already positioned as an expert before you ever even speak with them.

With Social Media Marketing, you need to know what you're doing straight away, with a proper thought-out plan. If you don’t know what you are doing and just start putting out

adverts with no purpose or vision, you'll be shut down for posting spam and los e your account in the process.

All of these 3 methods need proper approaches in order to maximize your success. But once you've mastered them, the internet will provide you with a powerful, strong resource that'll help you achieve more than you ever thought possible.

But traffic alone isn’t going to do you any good. You also need to be able communicate properly, which brings us on to the final tool...

3. The Written Word

It doesn’t matter how many web visitors your get to your website, or how great your phone voice is. If your content is clear and concise, you won't succeed. Every aspect of your communications has be written so that it captures client’s interest, and gets them

to take action.

Writing words that get people to take action is a powerful skill for growing a business. Behind corporate CEO’s, professional marketing copywriters are amongst the highest paid professionals on the planet.

Just as an example, Dan Kennedy is a famous copywriter that is paid over $100,000 for writing one single sales message for his clients. Although that seems like a ridiculously large sum of money, his clients happily pay that amount, because they generate millions of dollars with his sales messages.

Online copy refers to the internet, the copy in your ads, and the copy on your website, your emails that you send to your list. Everything that has to do with the written word. Copy is of vital importance, as it's the difference between making a sale and not. One of the most common mistakes that network marketers make is driving your traffic to a

generic, badly-written company replicated website. Clients will not engage positively, and all your energy and time spent getting people to your site will be completely wasted. This is literally like flushing money down the drain.

To get people to take action, you have to know how to position yourself. Many people

use company replicated websites, which you pay for a template of a site that you can make your own. They allow a little bit of customization, but not much. They might have basic features, but they don’t do anything to inspire readers to take action. As so many companies and marketers use these generic sites, your site will probably look like every other, the only difference being a small box with your name in it.

You website for marketing should be a data-capture website, or lead capture website. This is a website that has a compelling offer for something that your web visitors would like. This allows you to position yourself as a helper, instead of a sleazy salesperson, and lets you start to build a database of interested prospective prospects and business builders.

Once your potential client is impressed, you can then present online sales letters to motivate your database to join you in business, and purchase your products and services along with what’s called an autoresponder.

An autoresponder is simply a newsletter tool that will send out pre-written emails and newsletters to your database. I personally recommend SendPepper.Com, as I've found it to be great. Again, you can craft copy with these to provide value to your database, to educate them, inform them, and build a relationship with them. This is where great copy comes into its own, allowing you keep people in the loop and feel valued at the same time.

When it comes to the written word, you have to work hard to get this valuable asset a working part of your skill set. Copywriting is a skill that is learned, just like anything. People aren’t born successful copywriters or internet marketers, they all learn from others. The great part is that once you've mastered these skills, your abilities will be far

ahead of your competition, making growing a significant business a piece of cake.
