Instructions to make a bootable PGP Recovery image on an USB thumb drive with Windows 1) Insert the USB thumb drive 2) Open up the My Computer icon and find the removable drive that you just inserted including the drive letter such as G 3) Right click on the drive letter and select “Format” 4) Under File System select “FAT” or “FAT16” (do not select FAT32 or NTFS) 5) Uncheck the option to “quick format” the USB 6) Click on Start 7) When it’s completed close out the format utility and the My Computer Window 8) Download YUMI (freeware) utility: From the following URL: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/downloads/YUMI/YUMI-0.0.8.7.exe 9) When prompted what to do with the file click on “save”. Save it to your hard drive in the My Documents folder 10) When it’s finished downloading click “close” 11) Go to the Symantec site for a recovery image that corresponds with the correct version of PGP Whole Disk Encryption that you have encrypted the drive with. Note: Make sure that you download the correct version number and MP release number of what you have encrypted the drive with currently. If you are not sure, then you can boot to the BootGuard prompt where you would normally put in your passphrase and select the Advanced menu option and view what the PGP version information is on that screen. 12) When prompted what to do with the ISO file you are downloading. Click “Save” and put it in the

My Documents folder on your hard drive.

13) After the files are downloaded, open up the YUMI.exe utility that you downloaded in step 8 by

double clicking on it

14) Click on “I Agree”

15) Click the drop-down menu under the part where it says “Step 1: Select the drive Letter of your

USB Device”. Use the drive letter that you found in Step 2 for your recently formatted thumb

drive

16) Where it says “Step 2: Select a Distribution from the following Box to put on your USB”. Scroll

down till you see “Try an Unlisted ISO”

17) Click on “Browse”

18) Browse to the folder where you downloaded the Recovery Image ISO file in Step 11 and 12

(should be in My Documents) and Click Ok

WARNING: Make sure that you have backed up anything existing on the thumb drive as the contents

will be overwritten with this utility!

19) Click on “Create”

20) Click “Yes on the warning about overwriting the thumb drive

21) You may see a black command prompt pop up (don’t close this) also don’t close the YUMI utility

until you receive this screen at which point you can click “Next”

22) Click No to the prompt that asks “Would you like to add more ISO’s/Distros Now”

23) Click Finish

24) Remove the thumb drive and put it in the machine that you need to boot from.

25) You will need to boot the USB thumb drive on that other machine. If you need help doing this,

please contact your PC manufacturer on instructions for how to do that.

26) Once you have booted the USB utility it will give you boot options. You need to select the

bottom option
