There are just a few steps to take in order for yourself to be able to change the oil in your car. Also, there are only a few tools needed and it is a quick and easy process.

First Step
Obtain all tools and parts required: 5 quarts of oil (maybe more or less depending on your
vehicle, check owners manual for exact amount) Oil filter (Check with the store when buying the filter
for the correct one needed) Filter wrench Drain plug wrench Drain pan for dirty oil Oil Funnel (if needed for pouring of oil) Car ramps (if needed to raise the car for easy access)

Second Step
Pull your car up on the ramps
Open Hood Make sure you put
blocks behind and in front of the rear tires so that the car can't move forward or backwards

Third and Fourth StepTHIRD STEP
Take the old filter off the car using the filter wrench
Watch out for hot oil coming out if your car was just running or has been running recently
Also, make sure the drain pan is under to catch the oil
Tip the filter into the pan because it will have oil inside
FOURTH STEP Take the drain plug out
using the drain plug wrench
Again, watch out for hot oil coming down if your car has been running recently
Also, again keep the drain pan under
Oil tends to come out at an angle so make sure the pan will catch

Fifth and Sixth Step Take the new filter out
of the box and apply a little new oil with your finger to the gasket on the bottom of the filter and screw the new filter into place where the old filter was
Only put the filter on hand tight and not with the wrench
Put the drain plug back on and use the wrench to make sure that no oil will leak out from the plug

Seventh Step
Remove cap to oil on engine
Pour all needed quarts of oil into engine using a funnel if needed
Picture to the right shows someone pouring oil into their engine

Eighth Step
Start the car and leave running for a minute or so Check for the oil light to go out a second or two
after starting up the car Look under the car for any leaks near the drain
plug or filter

Final Step
If there are no leaks or warning lights on inside the car Clean any oil spills with kitty litter Remove all tools from around the car and put
away Close hood Turn car off Dispose of old oil at the county dump or a store
that takes old oil
