How to create a report based on
an SAP query

Before we begin, lets have a look at the SAP GUI to find out more about how a query looks like in SAP.

SAP Queries are created in SAP with Transaction SQ01Insert the name of an existing query (1)
Execute the query (2)

Lets go back to Visual Studio and see how to integrate the query with Reporting Services

Start with a blank report thenselect New Dataset from the Dropdownlist

First select the Datasource Type Xtract RS (1)Next step is to fill in the host parameters (2)

Switch to the Credentials Tab (1)Insert the Credentials (2)
or you can prompt for the Credentials in the report (3)Click OK to confirm Credentials (4)

Click to change the DataSource Type to SAP query(1)Open the look up dialog for the SAP query (2)

Fill in the name of the SAP-Query (1)Click to search Query BC407_CONNEX (2)
Select Query from the list (3)Confirm selection with OK (4)

Now the meta data is fetched from SAP Click the Edit link to open the Edit Range dialog (1)
In the Range dialog define the selection for the parameters (2)

It is also possible to use variables (1)The usage of variables is generating appropriate report parameters automatically (of course you can edit the
parameters manually)

Click if you want to use a variant (1)A list of possible variants is shown in the dialog (2)
Select one of the variants and click OK to confirm selection (3)

Layout the report as you like in the Layout tab.All columns of the query are now available in the dataset

Now you can preview the report (1)

Insert values for the parameters (1)Click to Preview Report (2)
