1 Storyboarding: Creating a storyboard in Word  For some, storyboarding may seem like a hassle, or a tedious extra step in the process of digit al storyt elling. This is not t rue. Story boarding is a valuable step in digit al storyt elling. It allows th e user to organize images, text, m otion, interv iews, and m usic before th ey begin m aking their d igital story . It allows the user t o visualize how the story will be put toget her and what holes exist so that t hey can be filled. There is a plet hora of story boarding software out there, but they tend to be m ore complex and involved. Storyboarding:Creating a storyboard in Word 

For some, storyboarding may seem like a hassle, or a tedious extra step in the processof digital storytelling. This is not true. Storyboarding is a valuable step in digitalstorytelling. It allows the user to organize images, text, motion, interviews, and musicbefore they begin making their digital story. It allows the user to visualize how the storywill be put together and what holes exist so that they can be filled. Storyboarding alsoinspires new ideas for the user’s digital story because the user sees all of the pieces of the story laid out in front of them.

 The following storyboarding tutorial shows users how to create a storyboard in MicrosoftWord because many people have access to Word. There is a plethora of storyboardingsoftware out there, but they tend to be more complex and involved. As users becomemore advanced, they may want to consider acquiring more complex software forstoryboarding.

5. Highlight entire table by left-clicking mouse and draggingcursor over table. Then, rightclick on highlighted area andscroll down to Distribute

Columns Evenly and click.

6. Go back to table, left click toun-highlight the table. Then,right click and scroll down to

 Auto Fit, left click, and scrollover to Fixed Column Widthand left click.

7. Hover your cursor over theright border of your table untilyou see this symbol:

8. Left-click and drag rightcolumn table border over until itequals 7 inches on the ruler.

9. It should now look like this:

10. Hover cursor over rightborder of left column and drag to2.5 on the ruler. This shouldgive you enough space to writetext in the left column, and toinsert images in the right

columns.

11. Now you can begin to insertpictures into your storyboard.With cursor in left corner of rightcolumn, mouse up to “Insert” onthe toolbar, left click, and scrolldown to “Picture”, left click, andleft click “From File”.

12. Browse for picture you wouldlike to use and left click onimage.

13. Your storyboard should looklike this:

14. The picture is too large foryour storyboard, so you need todecrease its size to thumbnail.Click on picture and hovercursor over the handlebar inlower right corner.

15. Drag handlebar to makeimage thumbnail size.

16. You can center image in cellby clicking on picture and thenclicking on center text button ontoolbar.

17. Now you are ready to inserttextual information in yourstoryboard. This will go in theleft hand column cell.

18. It is a good idea to separatemusic, narration, motion,interview, and titles by colorcoordinating the text.
