How To Create An Automatic Welcome Tweet

First thing’s first. What is a welcome tweet? A welcome tweet is a tweet you send out to a new follower via Twitter. This is different than sending out a DM (which you may also want to do).

Here’s the one I send:

This tutorial will teach you how to send your own customizedwelcome tweet. Automatically. For free.

We are going to use IFTTT.com and create a custom applet to send your tweets.

This is what your custom applet will look like (with your name on it, of course!

After you log into IFTTT, scroll to the bottom and access IFTTT Platform. You’ll need to log into that and create an account as well.

Go to your “Personal” account, then “My Applets” as shown below.

Click New Applet

IFTTT = If This than ThatIt’s a really cool website that allows you to create cool automation applets for free.

This is what a blank new applet looks like.

Select “Twitter” as your Trigger.

This is creating your “If” statement.

Select “New follower” after selecting Twitter.

FYI: your “if” statement is: While using Twitter, If I get a new follower….

We are going to use the “filter” section, but as you can see here, it is greyed out. You have to add an action first. Let’s do that.

Select “Twitter” again for your Then statement. Select “post a tweet” as your action.

Keep the selection “hidden from user”. We are not going to use any of the values or “ingredients” you can select. We do not want “FullName” as it isn’t a tag on twitter. We want the UserName (The @ Name). You can’t do that here; we will have to do it via the filter.

Scroll back up to “Add filter code”. The button should no longer be greyed out (it should be blue).

Here is where you are going to paste in some JavaScript. Don’t worry, you won’t have to write it yourself!

Scroll down and add your own applet title and description. Choose Twitter for the applet service.

Save your applet!

To use your applet, you need to turn it on. Click the link “Enable it in IFTTT” to do this.

When you get back into IFTTT, go to your applets. Turn it on by clicking the button.
