Page 1 Joan Mast MIS 542 Learning Module How to Create an Avatar When you are talking computer jargon an avatar, according to the definition on Webopedia, is “an electronic image that represents and is manipulated by a computer user (as in a computer game).” In this learning module you will be going through the steps required to create an avatar using WeeWorld and exporting this avatar to Twitter. This avatar could also be used as a facebook or blogger profile picture. Most of the social websites today allow you to upload a picture for your profile. There are some people who do not want an actual picture of themselves posted on a website so what can they do? They can use a website like WeeWorld to create an avatar to use as their profile picture instead. To begin the process, you must be connected to the Internet and have a Web browser, like FireFox or Internet Explorer, open on a computer. You will then follow the steps below: 1) In the address box of the Web browser, type in www.weeworld.com and press the Enter key on your keyboard.

How to Create an Avatar

When you are talking computer jargon an avatar, according to the definition on Webopedia, is “an electronic image that represents and is manipulated by a computer user (as in a computer game).” In this learning module you will be going through the steps required to create an avatar using WeeWorld and exporting this avatar to Twitter. This avatar could also be used as a facebook or blogger profile picture. Most of the social websites today allow you to upload a picture for your profile. There are some people who do not want an actual picture of themselves posted on a website so what can they do? They can use a website like WeeWorld to create an avatar to use as their profile picture instead. To begin the process, you must be connected to the Internet and have a Web browser, like FireFox or Internet Explorer, open on a computer. You will then follow the steps below:

1) In the address box of the Web browser, type in www.weeworld.com and press the Enter key on your keyboard.

2) At the WeeWorld home page, click on Create your WeeMee

3) At the Create a WeeMee page, select the body features that you would like for your avatar (In the figure below, the features selected are female, round head shape, the third skin color from the right, and blue eye color).

4) Now you will need to click on the Get dressed now button.

You are now ready to start dressing your avatar 5) Click on the to the right of the Items list box to give you a drop-down list of items to choose

from.

6) Click on Hair styles in the drop-down list to see pictures of the different hair styles.

7) Click on the hair style that you prefer. You can also change colors on some of the hairstyles if you would like to. You may need to click the Next button to see more of the styles or the Prev button to go back to a style you have already looked at.

8) Click on the to the right of the Items list box to give you the drop-down list of items to choose from and then click on Tops.

9) Click on the top that you prefer. You can also change colors on some of the tops if you would like to. You may need to click the Next button to see more of the styles or the Prev button to go back to a style you have already looked at.

10) Now click on the Save button.

You are now ready to register your avatar.

11) If you have a Facebook account, you may click on the blue Register using facebook button. This is being created for someone who does not have a facebook account, so we will click on the Create a new account button

12) Fill in the required information in the box provided and then click on the Register now! button. You may press the Tab key on the keyboard to move between boxes or use your mouse to click in the desired box. NOTE: You must click the box to the left of I agree to Terms and Conditions or you will not be able to go on.

You have now successfully created your avatar!!

13) Click on the Finish button.

If you created a new account like we did here, you may need to do some extra steps here before you export your avatar. Follow the directions on the screen until you are to a screen that looks similar to the one below:

You are now ready to export the avatar you created to a social website. The website that is being used in the following steps is Twitter. You can use Facebook, mySpace, blogger, etc.

14) Click on the Export link shown below.

15) In the Callout symbol, click the Facebook, Twitter, mySpace, Blogs link.

16) On the Step 1 page, click the to the right of Please select from the list below to show the drop-down list of choices.

17) Since Twitter is not on the list of choices, click on Other. You may have to scroll down in the list to find this option.

18) Now click the Next button.

19) From the Step 2 screen, click the Snapshot (JPEG download) option so your avatar will always remain the same and click the Next button.

20) From the Step 3 screen, make sure Small (96x96px) is the displayed in the box. If it is not displayed, then click the down arrow to the right of the box and select it. Now click the Next button.

21) Now save your avatar to your computer or a storage device like a USB flash drive. A picture is not shown here because different browsers work different ways to save.

22) Click the Finish button to finish the process of creating the avatar.

Now you have created and saved your avatar. You would then need to login to Twitter and upload the avatar as your profile picture.
