IIntroduction

t is quite advantageous for any present-day believer to discover the secretbehindthepowerofmanygreatChristians inhistory; thosewhomadesomeachievementsforGod.

Psalm 16:11 says: "Thou wilt showme the path of life: in thy presence isfullnessofjoy;atthyrighthandtherearepleasuresforevermore."

It means that someone could have joy that is not full. It is only in God'spresence that we have the fullness of joy. So, there is something about Hispresence which we need to understand and move with. And if we fail tounderstandandmovewith it, thenour joywillneverbefull.YoucanonlygetthefullnessofjoywhenyouknowhowtostayinHispresence.

Psalm51:10-11says,

"Createinmeacleanheart,OGod;andrenewarightspiritwithinme.(Itmeans thatapersoncanhaveadirtyheart,and thespiritwithinhimmaynotbe right.)Castmenotaway from thypresence;and takenot thyHolySpiritfromme."

Here,wecanseethatthePsalmistunderstandstheimportanceofthepresenceofGod.

CHAPTERONE

WHATISTHEPRESENCEofGOD?he presence of God means a conscious realization of God's absoluteinfluence in and around your life. It is amarvellous thing to dwell in thepresenceofGod;itisamarvellousthingtobeabletoreleaseyourlifeinto

His presence.No preacher has a right standing before any congregation if thepresenceofGodhasleftrumbecauseeverythinghesaystothecongregationwillnotcarrylife.ItisabsolutewasteoftimetopreachwithoutHispresence.

MoseswasconvincedthatitwasuselessforhimtoattemptanythingwithoutGod's presence in his life.When aChristian has the presence ofGod, hewillexperiencewhatwecalldivineorder;therewillbepeaceinhisheartevenifhedoesnothavemoney.Suchaperson'sheartwillbecalmandothersaroundhimwill find it strange.Hewill have rest knowing thatGodhas everything undercontrol.

Idonot forget thewordsof thatoldprophet in2Chronicles.KingAsa justfinishedabattlethatwasbyGod'shelp.Hewascominghomerejoicing,andthisprophet was wailing for him at the gate of the city. He said, "King, you arewelcome.Godiswithyouaslongasyouarewithhim.So,ifyouforgetaboutGodandthinkitisyou,youwillhaveproblems"(2Chronicles15).

Nopreacherhasarightstandingbeforeanycongregationifthe presence of God has left him because everything hesaystothecongregationwillnotcarrylife.

Iwould ratherhave thepresenceofGod inmy life than tobe rich. IcangoanywhereaslongasHispresenceisthere.Idonotcarewhatdirectionitis,aslong as His presence is there. It is dangerous to sleep at night without Hispresence,becauseoutsideHispresence, therearemultitudesofdemons,death,discouragement,despair,demotion,destruction,confusion,sorrowetc.

Occasionally, people experience the presence of God when they are either

praying,fasting,readingtheBible,praisingorworshipingGod.Inthecourseofthesespiritualactivities,onecouldgettoastagewhere,heorshewouldwanttoremainthereforever.ThatisHispresencethatmakesallthedifference.

WhenyougetsodeeplyinvolvedinthethingsofGodthatGodbeginstotalktoyouandexplain things toyou,givingyou revelations; that isHispresence.Unfortunately,thistypeofexperienceisnotcommonwithalotofpeople.Somepeoplestumbleintoitandaredelightedaboutitbutdonotknowhowtogetbackthere,whereas,Godisclosertopeoplethantheairtheybreathe.Sometimes,themajorproblemisthatpeopledonotspendenoughtimeontheScriptures.Whenyou spendquality timeon theScriptures, it becomes easier for you to tune toGod'svoice.

IfyouarenotsurethatwhatyouarehearingisfromGod,oryoucannotfindascripturalbackingforyourrevelations,it isbettertoputthemaside.Ifyouarenotsurewhattheansweris,putitontheshelveandaskGodifitisfromHimbecauseitisfarbettertodonothingthantodohavoc.Alotofdamagehavebeendoneoutofuncertainty.

DoyouhavethepresenceofGodorhaveyoulostit?Areyouanoccasionalvisitortotheholyofholies?Anyformofdivinedisciplineismoredesirableandmore bearable than being removed from His presence. When you are in Hispresence,youwill stopbotheringabout enemies,witchesandwizardsbecausethat isaplace that theydonotdarecome.Theydonotexist there,neithercantheycomenear there;Hispresencekeeps themaway.InHispresence,youaresparedthebattlesthatmanypeoplespendthewholeoftheirlivesfighting.WhenyoufindyourwaytoHispresence,youwillreceiveimmeasurableblessings.

"God is with you as long as you are with him, So, if youforget about God and think it is you, you will haveproblems"

et us look at the example of some of the things you can gather in God'spresence:

1. Fullnessofjoy.2. Strength:Strengthforwhatyouaredoing,andwhatyouareabouttodo.3. Comfort:WhenyougetinHispresence,Hecomfortsyourheart.4. PersonalcontactwiththelivingGod:Ifmanypeoplecangetintothiskind

ofrelationshipwithGod,theywouldnotneedanyprophet.TheywillbecomeprophetsthemselvesbecausetheyareinHispresence.

5. Angelicministration:AngelsofGodcanministertoyourneedsinHispresence.

6. Cleardivineguidance:WhenyoucarryoutwhateverGodtellsyou,whenyouareinHispresence,thingswillbegintohappeninyourlife.ItiswhensomepeoplegetintoHispresencethattheybegintoprophesy,eventothemselves.

7. Deeperrevelationandunderstanding:Youwillhavedeeperrevelationandunderstanding.

8. Comfortandencouragement:Nomatterwhatyouaregoingthrough,onceyougetintoHispresence,youwillbecomfortedandencouraged.

9. Supernaturalabilities:AlltrueChristiansandministersofGodknowthattheymustoccasionallychargetheirspiritualbatteries,ifnot,theywillbedead.

bathesyoursoul,sicknesseswillneecompletely.13. ImpartationofGod'snature:Thatis,becomingmorelikeGod.Whenyou

areinthepresenceofGod,thepowerofcreativitywillcomeuponyou.Somepeoplewonderhowsomespiritualsongsthattheysingcameabout;theywerereceivedinHispresence.

14. Burdensarelifted.15. ShechinahgloryofGod:Youwillexperiencewhatiscalledthe"Shechinah

gloryofGod."Itisagreatprayerwhensomeonesays:"OLord,letyourgloryovershadowmylife."YoudonotneedcosmeticswhenthegloryofGodcomesuponyourlifebecausetheglorymakesoneveryhandsomeorbeautiful.Therefore,itisatragedytoloseHispresence,ornottoknowhowtogetintoit.Itisverybadforonetoremainanouter-courtChristian,orasecondhandbeliever,consultingallovertheplace.MartinLutherusedtoPraythefollowingprayer:"PunishusOLordifyoumust,butdonottakeyourpresencefromus."

"Christians and ministers of God know that they mustoccasionallychargetheirspiritualbatteries,ifnot,theywillbedead."

CHAPTERTHREE

HOWTOLOSETHEPRESENCEofGODLuke2:41-52says,

"NowhisparentswenttoJerusalemeveryyearatthefeastofthepassover.And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after thecustomofthefeast.Andwhentheyhadfulfilledtiledays,astheyreturned,the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his motherknewnotofit.Butthey,supposinghimtohavebeeninthecompany,wentaday'sjourney;andtheysoughthimamongtheirkinsfolkandacquaintance.Andwhentheyfoundhimnot,theyturnedbackagaintoJerusalem,seekinghim.Anditcametopass,thatafterthreedaystheyfoundhiminthetemple,sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking themquestions.Andallthatheardhimwereastonishedathisunderstandingandanswers.Andwhen they sawhim, theywere amazed: andhismother saidunto him, Son,why hast thou thus dealtwith us? behold, thy father and Ihavesoughttheesorrowing.Andhesaiduntothem,Howisitthatyesoughtme? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business? And theyunderstoodnotthesayingwhichhespakeuntothem.Andhewentdownwiththem,andcametoNazareth,andwassubjectuntothem:buthismotherkeptall these sayings inherheart.AndJesus increased inwisdomand stature,andinfavourwithGodandman."

Hisparents lostHim.Howcould theyhave lost Jesus?The custom in thosedaysduringthejourneytoandfromJerusalemwasthatthemaleconvoyandthefemale convoy travelled separately. So,Mary thought Jesus was with Joseph,whileJosephthoughtHewaswithMaryDuetothisassumption,theylostHimforthreedays.Anxiety,fearandpanicfilledthembecauseJesuswaslost.Whenthey foundHim, theBible says,Hewas sitting in the temple talkingwith thedoctors.Inthosedays,theteacherssatdownwhilethelearnersstoodwiththeirbooks.JesuswasinasittingpositionmeaningthatHewasteachingthem.WhatmadethemtoloseJesus?Thatthing,whichcontributedtotheirlosingJesuscanhappentoanyoneaswellandmakehimtoloseHispresence.

CHAPTERFOUR

WHATMADETHEPARENTSOFJESUSTOLOSEHIM?

1. Lack of Alertness: They lost their alertness. They were not watchfulanymore because the programme theywent forwas an annual event so it hadbecomeacustom.Likewisesomepeopletakechurchasaplacetojustcomeandkilltime.Ithasbecomeacustomsotheyhavelostthewonder,amazementandspirit of the church.Suchpeople comewithout expecting anything.Each timeyoucometothehouseofGod,youshouldcomewiththespiritofexpectation,looking forward to having an encounterwithGod. Thosewho comewith thespirit of expectation experiencemiracles, but thosewho come to play or chatwithfriendsleavetheplacewithnothing.Tosuchpeople,comingtochurchhasbecomeatraditionandsotheyhavelosttheiralertness.

There are many people who do not take the praise worship session of theservicesseriously.TheytrivializeitwithoutknowingthatitistheonlythingthatGodgetsintheservicesmostofthetime.Alotoftimes,immediatelyafterthepraise worship, people will begin to bombard God with all sorts of requests.PeopleforgetthatpraisesbringusintothepresenceofGod.

Jesus' parents lost Him in the routine; they lost Him in tradition. There aremanyplacesofworshipnowwhereeverythingissoregimentedandmechanical,that it cannot be done in another way. In such places, people cannot praydifferently and are not allowed to move in the gifts of the Spirit. It is reallydangerousforone'sspirituallifetobecomeroutine.

If you lose your alertness, the presence of Godwill disappear.Whatever iskeepingyousobusythatyouhavenotimetostaymthepresenceofyourFatherinheavenisnotgoodforyou.ItmeansyouarebusierthanGodwantsyoutobe.YoumustknowthatifGodwithdrawsthatworkyouwillnotbebusyagain.So,remember thatHe is the one sustainingyou there.Whenyou losewhat keepsyouawayfromHispresence,youwillcomebacktowhatyouaresupposedtobedoing.

Somepeopleeatbiscuitsandchewgumwhileintheservice.TheyarefoolishandhavenorespectfortheAlmighty.ThatiswhytheBiblesays,"TheLordisinHisholytemple,letalltheworldbesilentbeforeHim."WhenyouenterintothesanctuaryofGod,youaccorditsomerespectbecauseofHispresence.So,theylostJesusduetolackofalertness.

2. InaccurateAssumptions: They assumed that Jesus would be there witheitherofthem.So,theylostHimduetowrongassumptions.Ifyouarethekindof Christian that is fond of jumping to conclusions and making wrongassumptions, you will lose the presence of God. When you make wrongassumptions about God, your spouse, the church, your friend, anyone oranything,youwillloseHispresence.Ifyoubelievethatsomethingistruebutitisnot,andthatwrongassumptionbeginstoguideyouractions,youwillloseHispresence.

"WhateveriskeepingyousobusythatyouhavenotimetostayinthepresenceofyourFatherinheavenisnotgoodforyou."

Sometime ago, somebody stopped me somewhere and said, "I noticed thatbefore,whenIgreetyou,youused tosmile,but in the last threeweeksIhavebeenlookingatyourface,whenIgreetyou,youdon'tsmileagain.HaveIdoneanythingwrong?"Ididnotevenunderstandwhatthepersonwassaying.Butthepersonhadassumedthathehadcommittedanoffenceonthebasisofthelookonmyface.Wehavetobeverycareful.

3. Wrong Directions. The parents of Jesus looked for Him in the wrongdirections.So,goinginthewrongdirectionwillmakeonetolosethepresenceofGod.IfyouhavelostthepresenceofGod,itisyouwhomovedawaynotGod.He is always the same. If you follow the wrong direction, you will lose Hispresence.

"The Lord is inHis holy temple, let all theworld be silentbeforeHim."

4.Wrong Focus: The parents of Jesus focused on themselves, and not onJesus, so, they did not knowwhenHe left. Some people do not focus on theFather'sbusiness;theydonotfocusonGod'saffairs.Alltheireffortsaredirected

atthemselves.Whentheypray,itisforthemselves.Theydonotdoanyformofintercession.Suchpeoplearewronglyfocused.AndGodistellingthemthattheyareseekingHimforthewrongreasons.

WhentheparentsofJesusfoundHim,Hesaid,"Whyareyoulookingformeinthewrongplaces?Don'tyouknowIwillbedoingthebusinessofmyFather?"Ifyoudowhattheseparentsdid,youwilllosethepresenceofGod.Somepeoplehavebeencomingtochurchforyears,buttheystillhavenotfoundJesus.Andthe Lord is asking, "Why are you looking for me in the wrong places?Whyhaven'tyoufoundmeyet?WhyamIsuchamysterytoyou?"

We need to cry toHim today.When youwant to approach the presence ofGod,youwillhavetheattitudeofexcitementthatyouaregoingthere.Thenyoubegin to pray and enter intoHis presence, andHe begins to speak to you.Aprayerwarriorshouldnottalkallthetime.Sometimes,hehastolistentowhattheLordissaying.

CHAPTERFIVE

HOWDOWEENTERINTOGOD'SPRESENCE?1.YouneedtohaveapersonalencounterwithGod.Ifyouareaskedwhetherornotyouarebornagain,youmustbeabletosay,yes.But ifyousay,"I thinkso," itmeansyouarenotbornagain.WhenyougiveyourlifetoJesus,youwillknow.Thedayyoudothatismoreimportantthanyourearthlybirthday.

2.AskHimforHispresence.IfyouhaveneverprayedtoGodaskingforHispresence,thenstartittoday.Itis possible to practise being with God, and enjoying His company. It ispossibletopractisejustsittinginHispresenceinsilenceandcommunicatingwith Him in your spirit. If you pray for about half an hour asking for Hispresence and do not notice any change in your spirit, then you have somerepentancetodo.

3.WorshipHim.Worshipcanbewithoutmusic,andmusictoocanbewithoutworship.You canworship by singing, or by saying howmuch you love theLord,orbyappreciatingwhatHehasdoneforyou,orwhatyouknowHewilldo.

4.WaitonHim.WaitingontheLordcouldmeanhavingasmallretreatwhereyoucan communicatewithHim. If youcannotdo it at homedue to lackofprivacy, you can go to your office, and get there before others resume. TheBiblesaysthattheythatwaitupontheLordshallrenewtheirstrength.Ifyounotice thatanytimeoneparticularsongisrenderedoroneparticularverseoftheBibleisreadanditaffectsyoudeeply,thenholdontothatsongorverseandbegintousethem;theyhavesomethingtodoinyourlife.

5.Prayinthespirit.IfyouhavereceivedthebaptismintheHolySpirit,prayintongues.Asyouprayintongues,atthebeginning,itmayappearasifthereisnofire,butasyoucontinueandpersistandpersevere,Hispresencewillcome.Anybodywho prays in the Spirit for half an hour everyday in amonth, nodoubt,willbeadifferentpersonautomatically.

6.MeditateontheScripturesthatmakeyoutofocusonGod.

7.ByfaithyoucanpictureGodbesideyou.Thisiswhysomepeoplearesocalmanddonotworrywhentherearesomanyproblems,andothersarecrying.ThepersonwhohasthepresenceofGodwithindoesnotworryatall.

8.KeepRecords.Alwayshaveabookbesideyou to recordwhat theLord isspeaking toyourheart.IfyoudonotmakearecordofwhatGodissayingtoyou,HewillStoptalkingtoyoubecauseyoudidnotrecordwhatHehasalreadytoldyou.Youforget and take no action.When you do not take action, Hewill leave youalonebecauseyouarenotserious.

9.Learntoquietenyourheart.The heart of so many people are noisy. Their babies are screaming, theirspouses are screaming, they are thinking aboutmoney etc. There is a lot ofnoiseinsideso,theycannotreallysettledown.

HOWDOYOUQUIETENYOURMIND?

Itisverysimple.Youfirstofalltalktoit,Youmyheart,Iamincharge.Cometoyourrestingplace.Irefusetothinkorbotheraboutthesethingsyouarebringingtome.So,Icastthemout."ThenbegintoconfessthewordofGod.Thatway,yourheartwillbequietsothatyoucanopenituntotheLord.

OnemanintheBiblecalledCainreceivedagreatpunishment;hewasdrivenawayfromthepresenceofGod.ThegreatestproblemofAdamandEvetoowasthelossofthepresenceofGod.Theyweredrivenaway.

Beloved, if youdonot have thepresenceofGod,Workhard to receive andkeepit.
