In A Nutshell Invite your customers, human and canine, to paint a dog bowl and enter their work of art
into our 7th Annual Give A Dog A Bowl dog bowl painting contest.
Phase 1 – Local Level
You host the contest first, at the local level, in your studio. Your winners will be chosen via
online voting on your website for Under 12 and 12+. Prizes are determined by you, the
studio owner. Consider letting neighboring, pet related businesses sponsor prizing.
Phase 2 – National Level
Your local winners will be entered into the National Level Dog Bowl contest, with photos
hosted on the main CMM page – separated into Under 12 and 12+.
Contest Timing & Entry!

IMPORTANT
It is important that you run your promotion according to these dates in order for
your winner’s bowls to be treated with the same considerations as any others.
Please separate your entries by age: Under 12 and 12+.
Submit your winners with painter’s name and age.
Contest Rules & Structure There is no additional fee to enter, however the customer must purchase their bowl at Color
Me Mine, paint it at Color Me Mine and must do so during the contest live dates. Dog bowls
painted in your CMM studio during the contest live days (6/17 – 7/15) are eligible for
entry into the contest. All ages are welcome. Employees are not eligible.
You will select 2 winners from your studio (Under 12 & 12+).
When bowls come out of the kiln, CMM staff will take a photo. Bowl can then go home.
All photos must be submitted to Tara by July 18 to be prepped for your website.
I will send prepped photos back before Aug 1.
As customers pick up bowls, explain that voting takes place on your website 8/1 – 8/15.
Load all photos to your website gallery by August 1 and open voting until August 15.
Announce your winners August 15. You might even hold an event for the occasion.
Send your winner’s name, age range & photo to Tara on August 15. TIP: rename your
photo files accordingly. Example: “TucsanAZ_AnnieSmith12+” could be used as a photo
file name.
The national contest entries will be on display on the main website from 8/20-8/25.
Winners will be selected and announced 8/26 on the main CMM page.
Prizing
Color Me Mine Home Office will provide a Family Paint Party, valid for
up to 10 painters, for each winner, as well as the honor of being
featured in the 2014 GADAB advertising materials.
Actual prizes and certificates for the paint parties will be delivered to
the winning studios so that the owner may present the winner with
their prizing directly.
SUGGESTION
Consider arranging for the bowls to be on display at your local children’s
museum for the duration of the contest. If the national winner comes
from your studio, invite family and friends to the museum to present
them with their prizes. Invite the media.
Start with your Staff! Use your team to come up with cool ideas to make your contest great
Delegate responsibilities to staff
Have a staff painting contest in early June. This gets them excited and creates great
painted samples for displays.
Reach Out To Potential Partners Approach potential partners such as pet businesses and non-profits.
Invite them to brainstorm being a part of the event.
Create an Advertising Plan Think about how you’ll advertise, do you need to reserve ad space?
Create a budget and plan accordingly
Order Bisque Be sure you have plenty of dog bowls on hand
Prep For Photos Plan to photograph entries as you fire them. This will ensure that you have all of your
entry photos ready when it’s time to submit them for editing.
Please photograph them all from the same angle, against a white background.
Contest Partners
Obvious partners are pet stores, pet bakeries, groomers, veterinarians, and any other pet
related businesses. Can they donate prizing? Help advertise?
Children’s museums would make an excellent partner, to host the entries as a show!
Offer to feature partners on your advertising materials and partner page.
You might also wish to work with local non-profits such as shelters, Humane Society or
SPCA. Choose the one with the largest network and greatest reputation.
Brainstorm ways to work together to up the fun factor in your contest.
Consider hosting pet adoptions at the studio. Don’t worry, this mostly involves albums
featuring pictures of animals and only a few, well behaved live ones on site. Pet adoption
days are newsworthy… don’t be too quick to dismiss the idea.
Consider making donations to your chosen organization.
Pitch potential partners the opportunity to get involved by sponsoring prizing
In exchange for ad space on flyers and your partner page online.
