Good rec 2 rec agencies are the exact target that new recruiters should be aiming for. The

truth is that most new starters think that established agencies won’t be interested in them.

That is not the case particularly if you have a good rec 2 rec company singing your praises.

The reality is that if you pay attention to a few key areas you will be at the top of their list

when it comes to recommendations.

Remember not every recruitment business owner is looking for the established big biller with

a proven track record. Often they want some fresh blood. Someone with ‘attitude’ and drive.

The evidence is pretty overwhelming that if you go through well-connected rec 2 rec

agencies your chances of landing that key role will skyrocket.

So how, as a ‘newbie’ can you catch their attention and get your name in the frame. Here a

few top tips.

1. Present well

Maybe old fashioned and yet it works. Turning up to meet a rec 2 rec consultant that is

potentially putting you forward to their best clients, scruffy and unprepared won’t work. Put

it this way you probably won’t be contacted again. Think it through. They may be a recruiter

just like you and this isn’t a mate to mate conversation. Think about the sector you are

entering into, what is the dress code of that organisation.

2. Evidence your worth considering

This does not matter if you are currently an experienced recruiter or a graduate thinking about

this type of role for the first time. You have to demonstrate that you have some classic skills

that your potential new boss will be looking for. Attitude is one of them. No not the

‘whatever’ attitude!

We are talking about working and living in a way that the pot is always half full rather than

half empty. If you are that sort of person then you will have lots of evidence that that is the

case. Make sure you can tell the rec 2 rec consultant sitting in front of you about some of

your experiences. How you have overcome challenges, gone the extra mile. Skills are easy

for anyone to learn attitude takes more work.

So many less experienced recruitment consultants don’t show their enthusiasm and give up

too quick. You know the saying, if at first you don’t succeed. Well this is one place to

embrace it. It is a well-known fact that most people don’t buy until the 6-7th contact. So think

about this. That is the same in most walks of life. If you want the rec 2 rec consultant to ‘buy’

you you need to show some tenacity and persistence.
