How to identify the fake science journals?

Are you looking for some good journals to publish your data? Then this is the correct time to read my

article. I am writing this with the hope of inhibiting you from publishing your data in predatory and fake

journals.

These are the following criteria you should know before submitting your manuscript to a journal:

A) Indexing and abstracting

Indexing and abstracting are very important for a journal. A good journal holds very good indexing and

abstracting agencies. Abstracting is a service that provides abstracts of publications, often on a subject or

group of related subjects, usually on a subscription basis. Indexing is a service that assigns descriptors

and other kinds of access points to documents.

Following are some good indexing and abstracting agencies. The journal should have at least two of them.

1. Thomson Reuters indexing such as Zoological record

2. Pubmed

3. ISI Web of Knowledge or science

4. Scopus

5. Researchgate

6. Academia.edu

7. Google Scholar

8. Directory of Science

9. SIS ( Scientific indexing services)

There is no worth of publishing your data in journal which doesn’t have good indexing and abstracting.

Go to the journal home page and check for indexing and abstracting.

B) Verification of indexing and abstracting

Some journals may simply mention the name of good indexing agencies. It’s your duty to verify whether

the journal is really indexed by that. How to verify?

For example if a journal shows that it is indexed by Pubmed. Then go to Pubmed’s home page and type

the name of the journal (No spelling mistake please). If the search result confirms the journal you are

searching then it is true that this journal is indexed by Pubmed.

C) Verification via SCImago

The SCImago Journal & Country Rank is a portal that includes the journals and country scientific

indicators developed from the information contained in the Scopus® database (Elsevier B.V.). These

indicators can be used to assess and analyze scientific domains.

Type http://www.scimagojr.com. This leads you to SCImago home page. Select journal search option and

type the name of the journal or type the journal’s ISSN number. You will get the full details on the

journals. If you don’t get please try to know more about the journal by other means or ignore. But this is

not a stringent variation method because some journals you may not find in SCImago but they are very

good and you can trust them.

D) All journals should have ISSN number. E-ISSN for e copy and P-ISSN for printed copy.

E) It should have a valid impact factor

F) If your journal is indexed by Google scholar it should show:

1. Citation

2. h-index

3. i-10 index

Because there are many fake journals which show Google scholar indexing.

Writing a paper legibly is very important but publishing it in an esteemed journal is also very important.

So pleases don’t mess up in selecting journal as a venue for your work. Take enough time to decide and

publish your work in a good journal.

I hope it might help you in selecting journals.

Thank you

Happy publishing
