    STANDARD TUNING

guitar tunings assign pitches to the open string

of guitars. standard tuning defines the string

    pitches as e, a, d, G, B AND e FROM THE LOWEST

(LOW E) TO THE HIGHEST (HIGH E).

    e a d g b e

also shown above is how standard tuning would

look on the keys of a piano.

2)chords a Chord is any harmonic

    set of three or more

    notes played at the same

    time

on the guitar you’d play these notes

using one or a combination of your

    fingers placed on the fretboard:-

3)powerchords a power chord (also fifth chord) is a

chord that consists of the root note

    and the fifth.

      example  g-powerchord

They’re easier to play than their full-

version counterparts and don’t contain a

major or minor quality to them, so they

can stand in for either type of chord.

example  d-powerchord   power chords are a key element in many

styles of rock, punk rock, heavy metal

    and similar genres.

4)Tablature(tabs) tablature or  tab  for short is a form ofmusical notation indicating instrument

    fingering rather than musical pitches.

tabs are common for fretted stringed

    instruments such as the guitar.

tabs written will cover the whole fret-

board numerically and each string bottom

    to top.

A pentatonic scale is a scale that has 5

    notes per octave.

The minor pentatonic scale is typically

the first scale guitarists learn to solo

with and is used to form solos in rock,

blues and other popular styles of music

    4

    7

Once you learn the minor pentatonic scale,

it should be relatively easy to learn

the blues scale as it is essentially the

same with one additional note (a flattened

    5th).

6)techniques in guitar playing there’s lots of methods

and techniques people use to adjust, alter

or enhance the sounds played on a guitar.

     palmmuting

     g   u   i   t   a   r   b   r   i   d   g   e

    palm muting is a

    technique for guitar

    and bass made by

    placing the side of

    the picking hand

    across the strings

    very close to the

    bridge of the guitar.

     Frethandmuting similar to palm muting,

    fret hand muting is

    done by playing a chord/

    note then lifting your

hand up to the fret so

    that it is still push-

    ing on the strings but

    not cutting the sound

    completely.

    When strummed this

    should produce a

    crispier tone and sound.

7)alttuning  DropDtuning Drop D tuning also known as  DADGBE  is analternative form of guitar tuning in which

the lowest string is tuned down (Dropped) from

    it’s usual pitch  e  down a tone to  d

    E

    de

Drop D tuning is frequently used in heavy metal

and its various subgenres, as guitarists in these

styles often need fast transitions between pow-

er chords. though it is also used in other styles

such as acoustic, blues and folk music.
