• Embroidery floss, scrap cardboard (a used cereal box is ideal), calico, scissors, craft knife, needle, fade out marker, adhesive backed magnetic tape

Page 3: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 2:

• Prepare your templates.• Cut out your paper pattern from the template provided as

appendix 1.

Page 4: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 3:

• Use the square paper template to cut out your square from scrap cardboard.

Page 5: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 4:

• Use the triangle pattern piece to cut out your triangle from scrap card.

• TIP: If you line this up with the corner of your card you’ll only need to make one cut.

Page 6: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 5:

• Now you should have three pieces of card that look like this.

Page 7: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 6:

• Cut your magnetic tape to fit

Page 8: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 7:

• Peel the backing tape from one of your magnets & position on your triangle.• TIP: if you’re using a cereal box make sure you stick the magnet to the printed

side of the triangle so that the printed matter is not visible through your calico.

Step 8:

• Now peel the backing tape off the top magnet.

Page 10: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 9:

• Position the second triangle on top of the magnet to ensure that the magnets are lined up.

Page 11: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 10:

• Your triangles should now look like this.

Page 12: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 11:

• Using your square template as a guide cut out your calico. Leave a seam allowance outside the template of approximately 1.5 cm (3/4 inch).

Page 13: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 12:

• Press your calico square around your cardboard template.• Begin by pressing the corners as pictured.

Page 14: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 13:

• Next press each of the sides as pictured. This removes a lot of the bulk in the corners & will keep the folds nice & neat.

Page 15: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 14:

• Remove the cardboard template & give another press.

Page 16: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 15:

• Fold the square in half to form a triangle.• TIP: It’s a good idea to press one side just a smidge shy of

the edge to keep everything neat.

Page 17: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 16:

• Fold in half again & press.• TIP: Now is the time to make a mark with your fade

out marker so that you know where to place your “x”.

Page 18: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 17:

• Using the template provided match the press lines to the dotted lines & trace your “x”.

Page 19: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 18:

• Stitch your “x”. Gift…use a speedy stitch like running or back stitch.

• TIP: If this is for someone really special (yourself) you might like to “x” stitch it.

Page 20: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 19:

• Once you’ve finished stitching your design place your work face down on the ironing board & repress the folds.

• TIP: Make sure that your “x” is positioned in the top right.

Page 21: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 20:

• Repress in half.

Page 22: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 21:

• And then in half again.

Page 23: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 22:

• Position your triangle shapes inside the seams magnet side down & fold in half.

Page 24: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 23:

• Pin to secure.

Page 25: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 24:

• Running stitch along each of the short sides of your triangle.• TIP: Position your triangle with the long side facing you. Begin your running stitch in the right

had corner. If you do this you’ll be able to stitch all three seams without rethreading your needle.

• TOP TIP: To ensure that your stitches are beautifully straight it’s a good idea to rule lines with your fadeout marker .5cm (1/4 inch) in from the seam & stitch along those.

Page 26: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 25:

• Your stitched triangle should now look like this. The magnetic templates are safely enclosed inside the fabric & everything looks nice & neat.

• Remove your pin & fold in half.

Page 27: How To Make a Corner Bookmark

Step 26:

• Now blanket stitch the short side closed to form your “cuff”.
