How to Mock up
• Create on paper first ie. decide on elements needed on page
• Use Photoshop or if more basic Keynote or Powerpoint
• Work with designer or can crowdsource design through crowdSpring, 99Designs etc
• Explains concept more powerfully than words
Text
How to Site Map
• Decide on the pages in your website/app
• Start on paper
• Decide on main navigation
• Arrange into site sections
• Account for all pages including Search results etc
How to User Journey
• Think about how your audience will experience your content
• Chart a typical user’s journey through the content
• Show different entry points
• Be ready to talk about your exit strategy
• Can be charted or done with images such as photos
How to Platform Map
• Similar to User Journey but this maps your platforms
• Brand is always at centre
• Platforms as satellites around brand
• Can show how they correlate
How to Social Networks
• Establish a presence for your series
• If have large following tailor multiplatform so they can get involved
• Highlight number of followers in pitch
How to Taster Video
• Snappy
• Tells a story
• Covers all platforms
• Posted on Vimeo, YouTube etc
• Use multiplatform assets like mockups, user journey etc
How to Prototype
• Rarely necessary at pitch stage, more likely after some paid development
• Usually allows you to create cutdown app, demonstrate some code works
• Work with specialists such as developers or app builders
• If it is an app can load onto 3rd party’s mobile using application such as TestFlight
How to
• Tell a story
• Focus on the what and why and not too much on the how
• Dazzle with taster tape, mocks etc
• Avoid demo unless you have tech to project it
• Be purposefully broad, you never know who is listening
• If appropriate involve the audience
• Leave them wanting more!
• PRACTICE!
Pitch in Public
How to
• Research their interests and objectives first
• Ascertain how much time you have
• Bring all the tech you need
• Sell in a BIG idea and then reinforce proposition with supporting evidence and assurances you can deliver
• Show off visual assets such as trailer, mocks, user journey
• Demo something ie. similar App, website, technology
• Be flexible and responsive
