One of the biggest problems with affiliate marketing in the past has been the difficultly in trackinghow many people are clicking on your affiliate ads.

There are now a number of options available for tracking your affiliate clicks. In this video we’ll lookat using a website service called bit.ly.


Example Ad

Here’s an ad that I created for my example blog using the monetization module.

Now I want to add a 'Find Out More' button as a call to action. To do so, I just click and drag thebutton onto my ad.


Set Button Properties

Market Samurai then displays this dialog box which allows me to set the properties of my button.


Create Affiliate Link

I’ve already set up my amazon account, so all I have to do is select it from this dropdown box andmarket samurai automatically creates my affiliate link which you can see here.


Select URL Shortening

Now this next option down here is where I select the service I wish to use to shorten my link andtrack how many people click through on my affiliae ad.

Select bit.ly Option

In this example, I’m going to select the new bit.ly account option.

If you already have a bit.ly account you can just enter your details down here.


Sign Up For New Account

But for the sake of this demonstration, I’m going to assume that you don’t currently have a bit.lyaccount.

To sign up for a new account, just click this link here.

Create bit.ly Account

Market Samurai opens a new browser window and the website bit.ly then asks you to create ausername and enter your email address and a password.


And by clicking the 'Sign Up' button I’ve now created my new account.

Having created my account, I can close this window down and return to market samurai.

Add Account Information to Market Samurai

The Title here is just the internal market samurai name for my account. So I’m going to call it ‘MyBitly Account’

I then enter my bit.ly username and password and scroll down and click the Add account button.


Shorten URL

With my account set up, I can now click the Shorten URL button which will take this long affiliate linkand log into to my bit.ly account to generate a shortened web link.


New Link

And here is my new link. As you can see it is much shorter than my original affiliate link.

But the real benefit is that this shortened link will also allow me to track how many people areclicking on my affiliate offer.


Insert Link

To get started lets just insert this link into my ad.


Publish Ad

My next step would be to publish this ad to my website which I’ve talked about in a previous video.

When my ad is published, it appears on my blog like this.

Now I’ve already clicked on this link a couple of times to test it, but lets just click it again before wego and check our stats.


Test Ad

As expected the link takes us through to amazon.com with our affiliate link in tact.

Log in to bit.ly

To find out how many people are clicking through our affiliate link, all I have to do is go to www.bit.lyand sign in to my account.


Check Stats

And here you can see that there have been 5 clicks so far which have probably all been my testvisits.

So that’s how to implement affiliate offer link tracking using bit.ly.
