How to use equipment Sound Desk Plugging everything in: 1. Plug the Main Desk in to the mains using the I.E.C. cable, then plug in the speakers into the mains using the I.E.C. cable. 2. Plug the speakers into the desk, using XLR cable. 3. Connect the sound source (e.g. the CD player) using a phono cable (Phono to CD player, Audio Jack to sound desk). 4. You must ensure that the right outputs are connected to the corresponding inputs (e.g. the left output is connected to the left input, and so on. Turning everything on: 1. Turn on the sound desk FIRST, then the sound source, then the speakers (otherwise you will hear a large ‘Popping’ noise). 2. Then turn on the Audio Source (CD Player). 3. Then turn on the Speakers. Operating the desk: 1. The channels should be turned on individually via the channel’s power switch. 2. Once the channel is on the Gain needs to be turned, the lights on the other end of the desk will build up a green row which will turn yellow and then red, the desk cannot be in red , it must be at the highest colour of yellow it can be before it turns red, this ensures the sound has maximum volume but isn’t distorted. 3. Use Pan to make sure the sound from each output corresponds to the correct speaker (e.g. turn the pan all the way to the left for the left speaker, all the way to the right for the right speaker and to the middle for both.

How to use equipment

Sound Desk

Plugging everything in:

4. After this, turn the channel off and repeat for the other channels being used, once this is complete, switch all required channels on.

Completion:

1. Use the ‘Master Fader’ (a red version of the fader seen on the previous slide) to raise the volume of all the channels.

2. Use the light grey faders for each channel to raise the channels individual volume.

3. Use the volume dial on the speakers to raise the volume on the speaker.
