New Phone Numbers for School Nutrition Programs The main phone line number for School Nutrition Programs (SNP) has changed to 517-241-5374 and the new fax number will be 517-241-5376. Some SNP staff will also have new phone numbers. Attached is an updated SNP Contact List. Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) Intent to Participate Deadline June 30 is the deadline for informing the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) that your school is planning on participating in the CEP. You can let us know by, at a minimum, checking the Box for question #12 on the Sponsor Information page. Fully completing the application, specifically the CEP portion, is preferred. 2019 National School Lunch Program (NSLP) Equipment Assistance Grant The application for the 2019 NSLP Equipment Assistance Grant was opened on May 24, 2018, and is available through the Michigan Electronics Grants System Plus (MEGS+). Applications must be submitted by the close of business June 15, 2018. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) awarded funds to Michigan in the amount of $634,132. It is expected that grant funds will be awarded on or around June 30, 2018. To date, we have had a number of applications that have been completed but have not been submitted by the Level 5 authorized official. New Phone Numbers for School Nutrition Programs The main phone line number for School Nutrition Programs (SNP) has changed to 517-241-5374 and the new fax number will be 517-241-5376. Some SNP staff will also have new phone numbers. Attached is an updated SNP Contact List.

Meet Up and Eat Up, Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) The Meet Up and Eat Up, SFSP is gearing up around the state! Remember, it is a requirement for all NSLP sponsors to do outreach to their school communities for this program. There are many ways to do this outreach, for example, if not an SFSP sponsor, you can contact your neighbors to share their media release information, send home the attached flyer, or post the Meet Up and Eat Up SFSP Map.ii Contact [email protected] with questions.

SFSP Calendar of Events Be sure to check out our SFSP Calendar of Events.iii Park parties, kick off events, and other fun festivities are planned around the state in conjunction with the Meet Up and Eat Up Summer Food Service Program. If you have an event in your area, let the SFSP team know by emailing us at [email protected] so we can add your information to the calendar.

Food Safety Basics for the SFSP Training The Michigan Department of Education’s SFSP will be offering a free 3-hour food safety basics course for SFSP monitors and site staff. This training is intended for those with minimal food service and/or food safety training. The training will follow The Institute of Child Nutrition’s Food Safety for Summer Meals Training Guide. See the attached memo for registration information.

Professional Standards Training Tracker Tool Webinar USDA will have updated information presented in the Professional Standards Training Tracker Tool Webinar on Wednesday, June 6. For more information and to register visit Webinar Registration.

Upcoming Webinar - 10 Cents a Meal: Tips for Being a Strong Applicant and Grantee There will be a webinar on June 13 from 12:30 -2:00 p.m. to learn tips from three current grantee food service directors on how to apply for and succeed with funding from 10 Cents a Meal for School Kids & Farms.iv This state program provides matching grants up to 10 Cents a Meal for schools to purchase Michigan grown fruits, vegetables, and dry beans. Both the House and Senate draft budgets include continuing the program for the 2018-2019 school year. Final funding may not be known until later in June, but now is the time to learn about this popular program that helps schools use Michigan’s agricultural bounty to meet USDA school food requirements. The Michigan Department of Education, which administers the program, and Groundwork Center for Resilient Communitiesv will share program and application requirements, and three current grantees will answer FAQ's about the program.

Re: Food Safety Basics for the Summer Food Service Program

The Michigan Department of Education’s Summer Food Service Program will be

offering a free 3-hour food safety basics course for Summer Food Service Program monitors and site staff. This training is intended for those with minimal food service and/or food safety training. The training will follow The Institute of Child Nutrition’s

This training aligns with Michigan’s goal of becoming a Top 10 education state in 10 years. Goal 4 addresses integrated student support, including nutrition. The Office of

Health and Nutrition Services offers support by assisting stakeholders in implementation of all Child Nutrition Program breakfasts, lunches, afterschool snacks,

and dinners.

Persons with disabilities needing reasonable accommodations for effective

participation in the training should contact the School Nutrition Programs office at 517-241-5374. All requests for accommodations must be made ten days before the

training.
