Congratulations to DECA members and
their sponsors Mike Freedline, Melissa Trochim, and Lori Moore for collecting over $500 to donate to MDA. A good time was had by both students and staff and they helped out MDA while doing it. Great job DECA!!!!!
14 students and 2 teachers from our Sister
School in Ludwisburg, Germany visited North in Octo-ber. This is an exchange sponsored by the St. Charles Sister Cities which is an organization dedicated to de-veloping friendships between American and German
folks. German teacher Anne McPartland arranged for the group to tour the St. Louis Zoo, Gateway Arch and City Musuem, and along with the German Club mem-bers sponsored an Oktoberfest on October 22nd where everyone could meet them and share in the food music and fun! Anne McPartland, German teacher and pro-gram coordinator, is so pleased to have had another group of German exchange students visiting. “It will be a great opportunity for students to experience a differ-ent culture and learn first hand how alike we all are”. This is the sixth program Francis Howell North has been a part of. If anyone is interested in helping with a future exchange, please contact Anne McPartland at [email protected] or call 636-851-5046.

Francis Howell North High School is proud to announce that Chris Woods, class of 1991, has been inducted in the 2014 “FHN Athletic Hall of Fame.” Chris
played basketball at FHN for 3 years. During that time, he had a career 437 rebounds, averaged 9 rebounds per game, averaged 18.8 points per game in the 90/91 sea-son. Chris Woods is the Howell North single season record holder for blocked shots with 162. After his high school playing days, Chris was a 4 year letterman at Vanderbilt University where he started 2 out of his 4 years. As a freshman Chris held Shaquille O’Neal to his lowest point total his last year of college but lost a tooth in the process. In 1993, the Commodores fin-ished with the best record in school history and were crowned SEC champions. They advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament that year and in 1994 they were runners up in the post season NIT in Madison Square Garden. By the end of his career, Chris was sec-ond in school history for blocked shots and is still 4th on Vandy’s all time list. He still holds the Vanderbilt record for dunks in a game with 9. Chris was inducted to the FHN Hall of Fame on January 17. Awesome!!!!
Congratulations to Ashleigh Jenkins who has been selected as a KMOX Southeast Missouri State University Student of Achievement. This program recognizes 30
students in the St. Louis Metropolitan area who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in; academics, athletics, the arts, community service and leadership. Ashleigh will receive this recognition on KMOX radio, Channel 9 Network, and will also receive a Student of Achievement scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University in the fall.. Great job Ashleigh!
Congratulations to Alyssa Harden, Michael Lindsey and Courtney Vishy for being se-
lected as 2014 Commended Students in the 2014 Na-tional Merit Scholarship
Program. They are being recognized for their excep-tional academic promise. Commended students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2014 competition. Congratu-lations to all!!!!!
Congratulations to Matt Schneider for being selected as a finalist in the National
Merit Scholarship Competition. standings. Matt was a semi finalist and now has made it as a finalist. The Na-tional Merit competition is based on the highest Pre-liminary SAT/National Scholarship Qualifying Test scores of those who enter the competition. Matt has received a Certificate of Merit and is now considered in the National Merit Scholarships to be offered in 2014. Great job Matt !
Congratulations to Journalism/Com Arts teacher Aaron Manfull for being selected as a Leader in Education by the Peabody
Energy Leaders in Education Committee. Mr. Manfull is one of 33 educators in the St. Louis area who was presented with this award. In August, one out of these 33 educators will be selected to represent the St. Louis area. Everyone here at FHN is so proud on him and wish him good luck in the next selection phase.
FHN is ranked 22nd within Missouri for Best High Schools according to U.S. News. This award is based on availability of AP courses, AP participation and test

To: The Parents and Staff of the Francis Howell School District From: Rick Pavia, Director of Operations and Facilities Date: July 18, 2013 The Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act of 1986 (AHERA) was enacted by Congress to determine the ex-tent of and develop solutions for any problems schools may have related to asbestos. A copy of the asbestos management plan is available for your inspection in the district administrative offices, dur-ing regular office hours.
