Editing your Magic iDVD 1. By  default,  your  Magic  iDVD  will  already  have  the  movie  title  and  links  to  your

“Movies”  and  “Slideshows”  on  the  main  menu.  2. If  necessary,  modify  the  movie  title  by  selecting  it  and  clicking  on  it  a  second  time.

✎  Sometimes  the  movie  titles  are  too  long  and  run  off/get  too  close  to  the  edge  of  the  screen.    Make  the  font  smaller  or  modify  the  text  into  two  rows  to  fix  this.

✎  You  can  also  move  the  title  lower  on  the  screen  by  clicking  and  dragging  it.  3. Modify  the  “Movies”  text  to  say  “Clips”  instead.  4. Modify  the  “Slideshows”  text  to  say  “Stills”  instead.  5. Your  final  main  menu  should  look  something  like  this:

 6. Save  your  work  by  clicking  File  → Save.  7. Edit the Stills menus

a. Double click on the Stills thumbnail to open the first Stills menu.  ✎  All  of  the  text  on  the  Stills  menus  must  be  edited.

b. By  default,  all  of  the  slideshows  will  be  named  “My  Slideshow.”    Each  one  needs  to  be  renamed  to  the  actual  slide  name.

i. In  Finder,  open  the  folder  that  has  the  still  images.    Click  on  the  first  image’s  filename  to  select  it,  and  click  on  it  a  2nd  time  to  rename.    Instead  of  renaming,  copy  the  filename  by  clicking  Edit  → Copy or by holding command ⌘ and pressing the letter c.

ii. Go back to iDVD. Click on the first thumbnail’s text to select it, and click on it a 2nd time to rename. Paste the filename you just copied by clicking Edit → Paste or by holding command ⌘ and pressing the letter v.

iii. Follow the previous 2 steps over and over for each thumbnail. The text under each thumbnail should correspond with the name of the image.

c. It should now look something like this:

  3

d. Some of the text may overlap.  i. To fix this, highlight all of the thumbnails/text by clicking (on the

background) and dragging your mouse to draw a box over them.  ii. At the top of your screen, click View → Show Inspector.  iii. Make the font smaller by clicking the size from that new window and

selecting a smaller one.  ✎ If the text looks too small, try making it bold.

iv. You can also modify the individual thumbnail text by selecting it and making it two rows instead of one.

e. It should now look something like this:

 f. By default, all of the slideshows are set up to auto-advance after 3 seconds. We need

the images to stay on the screen until we manually change them. Do the following to each thumbnail:

i. Double  click  on  the  thumbnail.  ii. Under  “Slide  Duration”  on  the  bottom-‐left,  change  it  from  “3  seconds”  to

“Manual.”  iii. Click  the  “Return”  button

g. Once  those  are  done,  the  last  thing  to  do  is  rename  the  title  for  this  menu.    Change  “Slideshows  1-‐6”  to  “Stills  1-‐6”

h. Your  final  Stills  menu  should  look  something  like  this:

 i. Click  on  the  right  arrow  in  the  bottom-‐right  of  the  Stills  menu  to  move  to  the  2nd

slideshow  menu.  j. Repeat  steps  b-‐i  on  each  Stills  menu  until  every  page  has  been  modified.  k. Save  your  work  after  completing  each  page.

8. Edit  the  Clips  menu  a. Go  back  to  the  main  DVD  menu  and  double  click  on  the  Clips  thumbnail

Page 4: How$to$burn$clipsprojects$DVD’susingiDVD$in$G333 ...mastersc/files/iDVD.pdf! 3! d. Some of the text may overlap.! i. To fix this, highlight all of the thumbnails/text by clicking

  4

b. Unlike  the  Stills  menus,  the  Clips  menus  are  auto-‐populated  with  the  clip  names.    Like  the  Stills  menu  though,  some  of  the  text  may  overlap.

i. To fix this, highlight all of the thumbnails/text by clicking (on the background) and dragging your mouse to draw a box over them.

ii. At the top of your screen, click View → Show Inspector.  iii. Make the font smaller by clicking the size from that new window and

selecting a smaller one.  ✎ If the text looks too small, try making it bold.

iv. You can also modify the individual thumbnail text by selecting it and making it two rows instead of one.

c. Rename the title for this menu. Change “Movies 1-6” to “Clips 1-6”  d. Your final Clips menu should look something like this:

 e. Click  on  the  right  arrow  at  the  bottom-‐right  of  the  Clips  menu  to  move  to  the  2nd

movies  menu.  f. Repeat  steps  b-‐e  on  each  Clips  menu  until  every  page  has  been  modified.  g. Save  your  work  after  completing  each  page.

9. Preview  the  DVD  a. Once  all  of  the  menus  have  been  edited  and  everything  looks  good,  you  will

want  to  preview  the  DVD  before  burning.    Click  the    button  to  do  so.  i. This  preview  will  run  exactly  like  the  final  DVD  will.    If  you  see  an  error,  this  will  allow  you  to  go  back  and  make  changes  before  burning  the  DVD.

ii. When  you  are  done  previewing,  press  the  “exit”  button  on  the  on-‐screen  remote.

10. Burn  the  DVD  a. When  everything  is  finished,  put  a  blank  DVD-‐R  into  the  iMac  (right  side).  b. Wait  for  the  Finder  window  to  appear.    When  it  does,  click  OK.

c. In  iDVD,  click  the    button  to  burn  the  DVD.
