Critical Facilities (Data Center) Designand PlanningOffers innovative engineering design solutions fortechnology-intensive, high-performance facilities.

• Evaluates potential sites/locations and facilities to meet requirements defined bythe enterprise strategy.

• Provides a basis of design, concepts and full design through stamped and sealedconstruction documents which are then delivered to construct the facility.

• Uses statistical tools and benchmarking to model reliability pre and post design• Uses statistical tools and benchmarking to model reliability pre and post design

• Uses proprietary tools to provide more detailed cost estimates

• Provides engineering peer review of facilities designed by others

Page 6: HP Data Center Services

CFD: service descriptions• Facility Programming and Cost Modeling translates a client's IT, space,

power and cooling requirements into a conceptual-level Basis of Design

• It develops a rough order of magnitude (ROM) construction costestimate, serving as a basis for proceeding into detailed design.

• This service leverages the DCOM™ (Design & Cost Options Modeler)tool to develop cost/benefit strategies for infrastructure investments.

Technology• Technology Infrastructure Design entails the strategic planning,

Technology(Cable Plant)InfrastructureDesign

• Technology Infrastructure Design entails the strategic planning, programming, design, construction administration, and commissioningfor the cable plant infrastructure.

• Comprehensive site-preparation audit that helps successfully integratenew equipment into a facility

• Comprehensive facilities infrastructure design encompassingelectrical, mechanical, fire protection, fuel oil, controls, andsecurity systems.

• Services may be applied to either a new, stand-alone "Greenfield"data center building, a new server room within an existingbuilding, or the upgrade/expansion of an existing facility.

NBS (Relocation) Summary 1/2

Business Critical systems:•RTGS (Real Time Gross System)•DINA Card System•IT Infrastructure (Network, E-mail, AD, Printing services, Domains etc…)Planning: 3 weeks (mutual effort)Duration: 3 waves (during weekends) Adjusted spare part stock during relocationTesting and Virtualization: 1 week (after relocation)Equipment: `25 Servers, 3 x Storage, Cabling, Rack de-installation and installation

Page 10: HP Data Center Services

NBS (Relocation) Summary 2/2Objective Approach Results

• Relocate and Migrate equipment(Servers, Network and Storages)from 2 DC into New DC

• Build Hot backup from existing DCat Kralja Petra

• Complete relocation of DC in PopLukina

NBS engaged HP TechnologyServices to build the proposal forrelocation

Using HP Global Methodology andHP certified engineers

Use Methodology of HP DCRelocation Services

HP’s plan was based on a series of‘migration waves’

IT improvements:

• Consolidating three existingdatacenters into one completely newproduction environment and afurther one for back-up hasincreased efficiency and simplifiedmanagement.

Business benefits:

• NBS achieved the move with zero‘migration waves’

Divided servers into variousgroupings according to the sensitivityof the applications concerned—theearly migration waves focusing onthe least critical test servers and thefinal waves being reserved for themission critical systems.

• NBS achieved the move with zerodisruption to its financial services.

• Customer and financial data securityand integrity was ensured.

• Consolidating the datacenters hasreduced costs.

Other Best practices:• Are you managing:

− Your energy costs

− Knowledge of airflows following CRAC shutdown / failure

− Clear under-floor space (no obstructions)

− Centrally placed CRACs in large rooms

− Correct orientation of CRAC output

21

− Correct orientation of CRAC output

− In-cabinet cable management

− No gaps in cabinet rows

− Cabinet blanking panels

− ITSM within the data center

− etc…

What is Thermal Zone Mapping?• Provides detailed information about CRAC zones of influence in

graphical format.

• Used to optimize the placement of equipment in a data center, investigate failure scenarios and ensure that a proper coolingsolution has been achieved

• Developed by HP (patent pending) and included as part of the HPComprehensive Thermal AssessmentComprehensive Thermal Assessment

VMware Capacity Planner Assessments

The Vmware capacity planner assessmentservice creates an inventory of the serverenvironment and generates a reportrecommending changes to consolidate andvirtualize the IT environment

This service is available in 3 packages:

• 50-server assessment• 50-server assessment

• 200-server assessment

• 1000-server assessment.

The report analyses the server populationand identifies those that are:

• Below specification

• Legacy and require retiring

• Should be consolidation targets

• A forecast of consolidation performance

Page 25: HP Data Center Services

Assessment Goals

− Server virtualization / consolidation rocomendation

− HP used the VMware Capacity Planner to monitor servers inproduction environment

− Identify servers that are good candidates to be migrated into virtualmachinesmachines

− Improve server utilization levels and increase overall CPU utilizationfrom an industry average of 8% to 50% or above.

− Reduce the hardware footprint in the data center by more than 60%

− Re-deploy existing physical hardware to be used for otherapplications.

− Allow better resource availability during peak hours for specificservers.
